Chapter 441: What is Your Bust Size...?

"Don’t call me that?!" Benjamin snapped back immediately, his composure cracking as he jabbed an accusatory finger directly at her.

His blue eyes blazed with indignation at the label, as if the mere suggestion offended his very sensibilities. "If anyone here deserves that title, it’s you! How are you able to track me when I teleport to your position? That should be impossible: since no normal person can sense me when I teleport or appear in the first few seconds after my arrival. The logic of the ability is supposed to be undetectable, and yet you’ve countered it multiple times now. So I have to ask..."

His tone shifted, becoming more serious and probing. "Marina, you can enter the Higher Realm, can’t you? That’s the only explanation that makes any sense."

"Hmph!" Marina threw her hair backward with an exaggerated flourish, the auburn strands catching the light as they cascaded over her shoulder.

She looked at him with her head tilted in an arrogantly dismissive manner, her deep green eyes carrying a haughty challenge that dared him to question her further. "I cannot possibly perform such a god-level stunt like that, you beast! The Higher Realm is reserved for beings of a caliber far beyond my station, and I make no claims to such divine capabilities."

"Then what was the arrogant theatrics just now for?!" Benjamin howled in response, his voice rising with frustration at her dismissive attitude. "And you’re clearly hiding something; you’re not even trying to be subtle about it!"

Marina’s grip on the Mjornøx tightened perceptibly, her knuckles whitening against the weapon’s handle as she considered her response.

The unstable energy of the weapon pulsed in rhythm with her heartbeat, casting flickering shadows across her determined features.

"I do know of the Higher Realm," she admitted, her voice dropping to a more serious register, "and I understand its intricate relationship with the normal world. I know enough about its workings to sense things that move within it—but only when my senses are very heightened, or when I’m actively using my Warrior Goddess ability. Without that boost, I would be as blind to your movements as anyone else."

"Oh, the ability that lets you use equipments from historical heroes?" Benjamin perked his head with sudden recognition, his eyes lighting up with understanding.

The pieces were finally clicking into place in his mind.

"Indeed. With Warrior Goddess, I am able to access and utilize armor and defensive measures that allow me to face even gods on somewhat equal footing," Marina confirmed, her voice carrying a note of pride in her capabilities. "So that is how I’m able to track your teleportation moveme—"

Marina squinted suddenly and stopped talking mid-sentence, her dark hazel eyes narrowing dangerously at Benjamin as a new thought struck her with alarming clarity.

The warmth drained from her expression, replaced by cold suspicion that made the air around them feel several degrees chillier.

"Boy," she said, her deep feminine voice dropping to a dangerous register that carried an unmistakable edge of threat, "why do you know about my ability?"

She took a single step closer, her presence looming despite their matched height. "Elara would never have told you such intimate details about my capabilities, and only a handful of women in Verdant Spire—not even up to five—know about it. Just who are you truly, Benjamin?"

"..."

The silence stretched between them, heavy and expectant.

[What do I do now? Should I tell her Sys did it?] Benjamin wondered internally, his thoughts spiraling as he considered his limited options. [Would she even believe me if I tried to explain the system?]

His mind raced as he scrambled for an explanation that wouldn’t reveal the true source of his knowledge.

{Master, please do not hoist trouble my way. Fix this situation yourself.} Sys’s voice echoed in his mind, flat and unhelpful, with a distinct note of annoyance.

[Eh?! Sys, are you still angry with me about earlier? I wondered why you’ve been so quiet lately!] Benjamin mentally flinched at Sys’s curt and cold response, his internal voice sounding with desperate plea. [Ever since you started feeling emotions, I have found it increasingly difficult to exploit you enough to get what I want, damnit! This is getting complicated!]

{Ask Stem for advice then, Master.} Sys’s response was clipped and dismissive, the equivalent of a verbal shrug.

[She’s still jealous about that whole situation with the other system?] Benjamin groaned internally.

"What... is your bust size?" Benjamin suddenly blurted out, the words escaping his mouth.

The question hung in the air between them, absurd and entirely uncalled for, given the circumstances. "If you can tell me your bust size, I can tell you how I knew about your ability. That seems like a fair exchange, doesn’t it?"

[Hehehe! Now, would she swallow the shame and tell me such a secret?] Benjamin evilly chuckled to himself, his internal monologue tinted with a drop of smug satisfaction at his clever diversion. [Or will she keep it to herself and also refrain from asking me complicated questions that I don’t want to answer as well? Either way, I win!]

"Hm...? What is a bust size?" Marina asked, genuine confusion coloring her voice as she tilted her head at the unfamiliar term.

[Shit... Bust sizes aren’t a thing yet in this world?! But panties are?! Damn crooked author defying common sense!] Benjamin’s mental panic surged as he realized his clever plan had backfired spectacularly. [Now I just look like a complete fool who asks nonsensical questions for no reason!]

"Whatever..." Marina said, closing her eyes with an air of finality that suggested she had lost interest in pursuing the matter further. "If you want to hold onto your secret till the very end, I can respect your resolve. Not everyone has the courage to take their secrets to the grave, after all."

[Hm? Grave?] [Ben]

She raised the Mjornøx down to her shoulder, the massive weapon resting comfortably against her frame as she settled into a relaxed stance that belied her readiness to strike.

The weapon’s unstable energy continued to pulse and crackle, casting eerie shadows across the scorched landscape around them.

Benjamin watched her form carefully, his body tensed and ready for whatever she intended to do next.

The silence stretched between them, pregnant with anticipation...

Before;

SLASH!

Benjamin immediately leaped away after it happened.

Marina had appeared in front of him with impossible speed, the axe end of the weapon positioned dangerously near his face.

The blade had already made contact, tracing a line across his features with surgical precision.

Marina took her stance again, the Mjornøx held ready at her side, then she giggled lightly; a sound that was entirely inappropriate given the violence that had just occurred.

"Regenerate from that, young man."

Benjamin now had a line across his face — a red vertical slit directly under his right eye, weeping blood in a thin stream that traced a crimson path down his cheek.

The wound was shallow but precise, clearly intended as a warning rather than a killing blow.

He touched the blood with his fingers, his expression unreadable as he examined the crimson substance.

And as he looked at it, he noticed something very important that he hadn’t fully comprehended before: something that made his eyes widen with sudden, dawning realization that changed everything he thought he understood about their encounter...
