Chapter 440: Monster
Her dark green eyes were fixed on Benjamin with predatory focus, her body coiled and ready for his next move.
"And I genuinely liked this tunic too," Benjamin complained with a theatrical sigh, examining the tattered remains of his garment with disappointment.
The statement was delivered with such casualness that it seemed entirely disconnected from the life-or-death struggle they were engaged in.
And then, without warning, Benjamin appeared directly in front of her—not moving through the space between them, but simply manifesting there as if distance meant nothing to him.
His hand was already extended, poised to strike at her throat with devastating precision.
The movement was so sudden, so instantaneous, that even Marina’s enhanced reflexes barely had time to register the attack.
His hand struck true, the force of the blow pushing Marina backward several meters across the scorched earth, her feet carving deep trenches in the blackened soil as she struggled to maintain her balance.
But even as she slid backward, a dull red metal that was slightly crushed around her neck became visible: it was a protective piece of armor that had absorbed the brunt of Benjamin’s attack and prevented her throat from being crushed.
Marina’s eyes narrowed dangerously at the near-miss, and without hesitation, she reached down and grabbed the fabric of her elegant gown.
With a single, decisive motion, she tore a long, dramatic slit in the side of the garment, the sound of ripping silk cutting through the tense silence between them.
The movement was practical and strategic, which allowed her greater freedom of movement for the fight ahead.
WHAMMM!
The moment Benjamin appeared in front of her again, Marina was already in motion.
Her leg swung upward in a devastating arc, the sudden kick connecting with Benjamin’s torso with such catastrophic force that it quite literally tore through his body, splitting him cleanly in half at the waist.
The two halves of his form separated violently, tumbling in opposite directions before collapsing to the scorched ground in a heap.
Shocked by both the reflex speed and the overwhelming power behind the strike, Benjamin’s eyes widened as he observed that there was a type of sleek, dark armor covering Marina’s leg; a metallic sheen that had materialized just in time to deliver the killing blow.
The armor gleamed with an otherworldly light, clearly enchanted or imbued with some form of defensive property that had amplified her strike far beyond natural limits.
But before Benjamin could process anything further, Marina moved with merciless efficiency.
She grabbed his severed upper half by the hair, lifting it off the ground with brutal strength, and drove the crackling Mjornøx directly into his chest with savage precision.
The weapon’s unstable energy surged as it made contact, the dark and white light intensifying to a blinding degree.
"Fry," Marina commanded, her voice cold and detached, as if she were simply completing a mundane task rather than executing her opponent.
And with that single, chilling word, the weapon unleashed its unstable power.m, concentrated on Benjamin’s center.
The blast erupted outward in a devastating wave of energy that turned 200 meters of the Whispering Wilds into charred, blackened nothingness.
The ground was sterilized down to the bedrock, every blade of grass, every insect, every living thing within that radius reduced to ash and scattered particles.
The heat was so intense that the very air shimmered and distorted, and the aftermath left nothing but a perfect circle of desolation with Marina standing at its center, the ashes of what had been Benjamin’s body blowing away from her hand with the wind like dark snow.
"Seriously, I have really underestimated you, Marina..." Benjamin’s voice came from directly behind her, calm and conversational, as if he hadn’t just been vaporized into nothingness.
Marina spun around immediately, her eyes wide with shock and confusion.
The Mjornøx was raised and ready, but her expression betrayed her bewilderment at the impossibility of his reappearance. "What?! You can regenerate from outside your physical body? That should be impossible!"
"Haha! Feast your eyes on— Wait, you were actually trying to extinguish me from existence permanently?!" Benjamin winced in horror at the revelation, his face contorting with offense at the realization. "That’s absolutely awful! Elara would be seriously sad if you succeeded, you know!"
He paused, his expression shifting from horror to smug satisfaction as he explained his ability. "And yes, to answer your question, as long as even a single living cell of me continues to exist anywhere in this world, I can fully regenerate from it. It’s one of the perks of my particular divine connection—I’m not so easy to permanently remove from the picture, I’m afraid."

"Monster..." Marina shook her head pitifully, her voice sounding with disbelief and something that might have been grudging admiration.
The word hung in the air between them, heavy with implication, as she stared at the man who had just reassembled himself.
"Don’t call me that?!" Benjamin snapped back immediately, his composure cracking as he jabbed an accusatory finger directly at her.
His blue eyes blazed with indignation at the label, as if the mere suggestion offended his very sensibilities. "If anyone here deserves that title, it’s you! How are you able to track me when I teleport to your position? That should be impossible: since no normal person can sense me when I teleport or appear in the first few seconds after my arrival. The logic of the ability is supposed to be undetectable, and yet you’ve countered it multiple times now. So I have to ask..."
His tone shifted, becoming more serious and probing. "Marina, you can enter the Higher Realm, can’t you? That’s the only explanation that makes any sense."
