Chapter 618: Chapter 588: Countdown!_9
"Don’t speak, don’t think, don’t cry! It’s all in the past now. Nothing like this will ever happen again," Qin Fan said, his voice painfully hoarse as he gently stroked the silky black hair scattered across Jiang Yino’s back.
"Qin Fan, since fate has irrevocably bound you to my life, then let me be your woman!"
Gone was her past shyness, her former demureness. After this series of events, Jiang Yino seemed to have matured immensely. Her voice, though light and muffled by tears, was now filled with determination.
At the age of eighteen, she had experienced the emotional turmoil of a twenty-eight-year-old and forged the mentality of a thirty-eight-year-old.
When a person survives a crisis, their mind can leap forward by a thousand miles. If they cannot, their spirit collapses completely. Fortunately, Qin Fan’s timely arrival meant Jiang Yino had made it through this fork in the road.
If Qin Fan hadn’t appeared when he did, what fate would have awaited her?
Death. She would have ended her own life. The life script Qin Fan had experienced in his previous life would have repeated itself, returning to its original tragic trajectory.
So, for the current Jiang Yino, there was nothing left to consider. In this life, she was destined never to forget this man, never to forget this heart-wrenching journey that would forever be etched into her soul. Her former shyness and her past demureness were utterly cast aside at this moment.
Was this decision crazy? Was it impulsive?
It was both. But for a woman, impulsiveness and craziness are often in her blood. The only question is whether the life she gambles on her youth is a win or a loss.
As her resolute words faded, Jiang Yino slowly lifted her chin from Qin Fan’s shoulder, looking at his stunned, almost frozen expression. She loosened her tight embrace slightly and reached out with both hands to caress his handsome face, her gaze fixed on his dazed eyes.
After a moment, a slow smile bloomed on her face. The Jiang Yino of this moment was nothing like a bashful college freshman. She was sophisticated, intelligent, and poised.
Yet, just as everything seemed to be proceeding as it should, at the very last moment, Jiang Yino suddenly panicked.
"Qin Fan, I’m not ready!"
The words had barely left her lips before she reflexively pushed Qin Fan away. Jiang Yino darted to the side, not daring to look at him again. Trembling, she scrambled off the bed and rushed into the suite’s bathroom.
WHOOSH!
The shower curtain was yanked shut, blocking everything from view.
"Shit!"
On the soft, comfortable mattress, Qin Fan, who had just been pushed away, was left completely bewildered. His gaze shifted toward the bathroom, and the curse slipped out. Hearing the sound of running water, he could only shake his head with a helpless, bitter smile.
Yinuo is still the same old Yinuo.
Thinking this, he heaved a long, resigned sigh. Qin Fan pulled his gaze away and turned to the digital clock embedded in the wall.
22:27.
There was still an hour and a half until midnight.
Bo Family, your countdown has begun. You have an hour and a half left.
Seeing the time, Qin Fan’s mind became perfectly clear, and the desire in his body rapidly subsided. Before heading to the family compound, he had to soothe Jiang Yino and make sure she was sound asleep. Otherwise, he would never be able to get away.
「In the bathroom」
"Jiang Yino, calm down, calm down!" she chided herself through clenched teeth, covering her face with her hands.
Shaking her head, Jiang Yino lowered her hands and reached for the shower controls, turning the temperature down. As the cold water sprayed over her, her delicate body shivered, but the shocking images in her mind were finally washed away.
She exhaled a long, shuddering breath, the frenzied impulse finally receding.
After washing up, Jiang Yino emerged from the bathroom wrapped in a bathrobe, biting her lip. Her face, the flush now faded, wore a complex and awkward expression. She didn’t know how to face Qin Fan.
"Qin Fan, I’m sorry," she said with difficulty, her gaze timidly meeting his.
She had been the one to light the fire, only to leave him hanging with an "I’m not ready." An uncontrollable sense of guilt toward him welled up inside her.
"It’s okay," Qin Fan said with a relieved smile, beckoning her over from his seat on the edge of the bed. "I’ll give you time. Yinuo, come here. Let me hold you; just a hug will do."
At his gesture, Jiang Yino couldn’t help but bite her lip, her face etched with hesitation.
"In all this time, have I ever forced you to do anything?" Qin Fan asked with a gentle smile, as if seeing right through her. The desire in his eyes had long since faded, replaced by a tranquil, pure happiness.
"Mhm," she nodded. Tightening the sash of her bathrobe, Jiang Yino walked over.
"Qin Fan, I’m sleepy. I want to go to sleep," she said softly, sitting on the edge of the bed without deliberately keeping her distance.
"Okay. Come, rest your head on my lap."
Before Jiang Yino could respond, Qin Fan gently pulled her down, laying her head on his thighs. She didn’t resist. Their eyes met, one looking down from above, the other gazing up from below.
Enjoying this moment of warmth, Qin Fan grinned softly, his tender gaze filled with affection.
"Aren’t you sleepy? Why are your eyes still so wide open?" he asked with a light chuckle, seeing her staring at him without blinking.
"Qin Fan, I’m scared. I’m afraid that if I close my eyes, I’ll see those scenes from tonight again," Jiang Yino confessed, her body trembling slightly as fear flickered across her face.
"Shh, it’s okay. I’m here, don’t be afraid," Qin Fan said, forcing a smile even as his heart twisted in agony. He gently stroked her lovely face. "Remember, you have someone named Qin Fan by your side—someone who would fight the entire world for you. Close your eyes. Try to get used to the quiet. Don’t let this become a psychological trauma. You have to slowly move past this. Trust me, no one will ever be able to hurt you again."
"Qin Fan, will you sing to me, please?" Her fear eased slightly, but she didn’t close her eyes.
"Of course. What do you want to hear?" he asked gently, not pressing her.
"Sing ’A Little Happiness’!"
"Alright. You start us off."
"I hear raindrops falling on the green grass below, I hear the distant school bell letting everyone know," Jiang Yino began, her voice soft.
Without needing another word, Qin Fan continued right where she left off.
"But I never heard your voice,"
"Sincerely calling my name."
"When I fell in love, I didn’t yet understand my heart,"
"Only after we parted did I feel how it’s etched in my soul, sharp as a dart."
"Why did I never realize that meeting you,"
"Was the best thing my life ever knew?"
"Perhaps I was busy with smiles and tears to get through,"
"Busy chasing shooting stars across the blue."
"It’s only natural to forget,"
"Who it was that through wind and rain, stood guarding you yet."
"Turns out you were the luck I most wanted to keep,"
"Turns out we and love were once so very near."
Qin Fan had a good voice, and his soothing singing was filled with all the tender affection conveyed in the lyrics. As the melody, like a gently flowing stream, seeped into her mind, Jiang Yino’s wide-open eyes slowly drifted shut. By the time Qin Fan finished the song, she was sound asleep, her breathing steady and even.
He stopped singing, a look of pure, doting affection on his face. The reason Jiang Yino had fallen asleep so quickly was that he had infused his True Qi into his voice. Gazing at her peaceful, sleeping face, Qin Fan gently touched his fingers to her temples. A steady stream of his Protective True Essence flowed into her body, ensuring she wouldn’t be woken by nightmares and allowing her to sink into a tranquil, deep sleep.
A few seconds later, Qin Fan removed his fingers.
Although he knew she was unlikely to wake, he was still exceedingly careful as he slid out from under her. He gently moved her head onto the pillow and tenderly covered her with the blanket. Only then did he turn to look at the digital clock.
23:20.
Midnight was fast approaching.
He glanced back at Jiang Yino one last time with a faint smile, then turned and walked out of the bedroom. As he took off the bathrobe and changed back into his clothes, his expression turned grim. A murderous aura emanated from him as he yanked open the suite door. After placing a Sealing on the lock, he strode away, his entire being radiating a chilling cold.
