Chapter 617: Chapter 588: Countdown!_8

The flush of red faded from her face, replaced by a deathly pallor. Her body beneath the bathrobe trembled uncontrollably. Terrified tears streamed from her eyes.

"Qin Fan, Qin Fan, Qin Fan, where are you?"

It was as if she had a split personality. Tucked under the covers, Jiang Yino could no longer hold back the flood of haunting memories that broke through her psychological defenses.

Suddenly, she threw the covers aside and screamed in terror.

Her slender body shot upright. She sat on the bed, hugging her knees to her chest and curling into a ball. Her violent trembling laid bare the lingering trauma she was suffering.

Hearing Jiang Yino’s terrified scream from the bathroom, Qin Fan flinched. With a sweep of his arm, he threw on his bathrobe. A look of panic on his face, he rushed out.

From the moment Jiang Yino screamed to the moment Qin Fan reached her bedside, less than two seconds had passed.

Without a word, Qin Fan pulled Jiang Yino into a tight embrace.

"Don’t be afraid! Don’t be afraid! I’m here, I’m here!"

Beneath the profound pity in his voice lay a chilling, murderous rage. He didn’t need to ask why. Qin Fan knew that Jiang Yino’s psychological trauma had just violently resurfaced.

"WAAAH!"

"WAAAH!"

"WAAAH!"

Enveloped in Qin Fan’s embrace, Jiang Yino seemed to find a sliver of security and finally let herself break down, wailing uncontrollably. But the slender body he held could not stop shaking. "Qin Fan, I’m scared, I’m so scared, I’m scared!"

As she spoke, her trembling grew faster and more violent.

"It’s all over! It’s all in the past! I’m here now. No one can hurt you. No one! Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid!"

Gently patting Jiang Yino’s back, Qin Fan’s eyes misted up.

"Why? Why? I’ve never hurt anyone! Why would they do this to me?" Curled up in his arms, Jiang Yino cried pitifully like a helpless child.

"Yino, I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!"

Tears finally broke free from his misty eyes as he spoke through clenched teeth.

If it weren’t for him, Jiang Yino would still be happily enjoying the innocence of her ivory tower life. If it weren’t for him, she never would have been kidnapped. If it weren’t for him, she wouldn’t be suffering from this deep psychological trauma. Ultimately, his presence in her life hadn’t brought her happiness. It had only brought disaster—a disaster no one her age should ever have to endure.

"What do I do? What do I do?" she sobbed, trembling, as if she hadn’t heard a word he said.

Before Qin Fan could respond, her curled-up body suddenly tensed. She opened her mouth and once again bit down hard on his shoulder.

Clenching his fists and furrowing his brow, Qin Fan silently endured her desperate, cathartic bite.

From that moment on, a dead silence fell over the suite.

The minutes ticked by, but Jiang Yino did not let go. She was completely oblivious, even as blood began to seep from the wound on his shoulder. But amid this fearful, cathartic release, her body gradually began to calm down.

An unknown amount of time passed. At last, when her emotions had settled, she let go.

By now, Qin Fan’s shoulder was a horrifying sight. The flesh around the bite was stark white, and blood was welling up from the deep teeth marks. Without special treatment, this mark would surely remain for the rest of his life.

"Yino, are you feeling better?" he asked softly, his voice full of self-reproach as he ignored the state of his shoulder.

Sniffling, she looked at the painful wound she had left on his shoulder and said, "Qin Fan, I’m sorry! I... I couldn’t control myself."

"It’s my fault," Qin Fan said, his voice laced with unbearable pain. "My selfishness made you endure so much that you never should have. Yino, this is what I owe you."

He had anticipated a day like this, which was why he had Amber secretly protect Jiang Yino. But he never expected it to come so soon, or for the opponent to be so powerful—so powerful that even Amber had vanished without a trace.

Jiang Yino missed the double meaning behind Qin Fan’s words, overlooking his mention of "selfishness." She took a deep breath. Held in his embrace, she stared at the lavishly decorated wall, and then, as if having made a great decision, she said, "Then you can owe me for a lifetime. A debt that you can never fully repay. Okay?"

Jiang Yino’s sudden declaration sent a tremor through Qin Fan’s entire body.

His eyes widened in disbelief, a spark of emotion flaring within them. "Yino," he stammered, "what... what did you just say?"

Without immediately responding, Jiang Yino hugged him tighter, resting her chin on his shoulder. Her gaze fell upon the tooth mark she had left before she spoke in a hazy voice, "Qin Fan, I’m lost. I don’t know what path my life should take. I always thought heaven would grant me a life of simple, warm happiness, but I was wrong. Your appearance, my feelings for you, us being together... it all led to Xu Jiayi’s death and the nightmare I just went through. I never imagined any of this would happen to me, but fate played a cruel joke, one that nearly destroyed me. Qin Fan, I can’t take any more pain. I really can’t. I’m so scared, so very scared! If you hadn’t been there... what would have happened to me?"

By the time she finished, her face was streaked with tears.
