Chapter 173: Chapter 102: Sea Witch Sabeck
As the most luxurious cruise ship in Alvess Port, the Jimmyria was, to put it mildly, beyond the average person’s wildest imaginings.
Stunning heated pools, lively dance halls, casinos where fortunes were spent in a flash, and an open-air bar still bustling in the middle of the night... where people were partying.
Elvire watched an eager-looking Sean warily. "You’re not allowed to go!"
Sean: "..."
’It’s not like I actually wanted to go.’
’I just wanted to check it out and stretch my legs.’
After boarding, the group wandered around the ship. First, they were looking for their companions to make sure everyone was aboard. Second, they were taking the opportunity to tour this luxurious cruise ship, where even the cheapest single ticket cost a five-figure sum.
Their conclusion: it was every bit as luxurious as they’d heard.
They spent the entire evening exploring. They counted over twenty restaurants serving all kinds of cuisines, not to mention numerous amusement areas and even plantations. Apparently, a good portion of the food served on board was grown right here; only meat from large livestock like pigs, cattle, and sheep was restocked when the ship was in port.
In short, the ship was fantastical—a veritable floating city. You really couldn’t imagine just how "simple and unpretentious" the lives of the rich were without seeing it for yourself.
Sean even tried his luck at the casino.
He played Texas Hold’em.
He lost three thousand in ten minutes, which made Elise cover her mouth to stifle her laughter.
’So,’ she thought, ’there are things this writer isn’t good at after all.’
Sean caught her teasing look and retorted unhappily, "What do you know."
"I just wanted to see what it felt like to go all-in."
He wanted to experience the open-air party, too.
But since Elvire wouldn’t let him, he could only walk away with a sigh of regret.
However, while Sean planned on indulging the girl, he wasn’t about to lose the verbal sparring match.
"Why not? You have to give me a reason," he deliberately asked Elvire.
Elvire snorted. "I’m afraid you’ll get into bad habits."
’Just look at those people writhing around at the party. They have no decorum, and they’re barely dressed. It’s utterly indecent.’
"Instead of wasting time here, you should be doing more Meditation. Improve your Magic Power before we get to Kovri," Elvire said, sounding like a wise old sage. "That way you’ll be more prepared when facing danger."
"You’re right." Sean nodded in agreement. "Let’s go back to our room, then. What position should we use tonight?"
Elvire: "?"
’What "position"?!’
"Are you looking for a death wish!" Elvire snapped. ’Elise is right here! How can he make that kind of joke?’
Sean put on an innocent expression. "You took away my chance to go to the party. You have to make it up to me, right?"
’If you won’t let me go have fun with other people, then you’ll have to have fun with me.’
Elvire wasn’t an unreasonable person. She could help Sean with his Meditation, but he couldn’t push his luck! Give him an inch and he’ll take a mile!
At most, she’d let Sean have one of her feet, like last time.
Elise chuckled. "Aren’t you two worried at all that the New World might have a location memory function, just like the Void Technique Space?"
Wherever you log off is where you log back in.
Elvire: "..."
Sean: "..."
Oh, right.
They had logged off in the Florist Family’s reception hall. They would most likely reappear there when they logged back in. What if Robes was there, lying in wait for them? Wouldn’t they die the second they logged in?
Sean had no idea what kind of nightmare the Florist Family was currently going through. Robes had gone to the Church Court for reinforcements and had unexpectedly returned with one of the Blazing Angels. For "safety" reasons, Sean decided to put off Meditation for a few days.
Even though dying in the New World wasn’t a huge deal—with a Witch right beside him, any injury could be healed in an instant—Sean still didn’t want to just hand Robes a free kill. He liked adventure, but he wasn’t a masochist; he wasn’t about to knowingly walk into his own death just to feed the enemy.
’There was no upside, after all.’
"Forget it, I think I’ll go to the party after all," Sean said.
Elvire: "?"
"No, you can’t!"
Just then, Yisha and Koni walked over with a few cocktails. Handing them to Sean and the others, Yisha asked, "What are you all talking about?"
Elvire shot Sean a grumpy look and sneered, "Your ’teacher’ here wants to go to a ’hard’ party."
Yisha: "Huh?"
Sean: "?"
"Throwing shade at me, are we?"
"Can’t you say anything nice?"
"How can you call what a writer does a ’hard’ party?" Sean said indignantly. "It’s called research! You have to experience life to the fullest to create better work."
Elvire: "Oh, right. I almost forgot you write smut."
She added, with an objective air, "So cringe."
Elise jumped in with a smile. "Speaking of which, Mr. Writer, your book hasn’t been updated in a while. Do you plan to keep writing it?"
This time, Sean’s answer was quite serious. "I’m still thinking about it."
’Before, I wrote to make money. I didn’t have any noble aspirations. But now that money isn’t an issue, I have to consider the impact my books have on people.’
’If I keep writing, more ordinary people will inevitably have their perceptions awakened by my words, only to become prey for those powerful families. I don’t want to bring harm to people.’
’But if I stop... it’s not like that will change anything.’
’I have no authority to demand the website take down what’s already been published, and I can’t recall the physical copies that have been sold. The only remedy I can think of is to add some hints into future parts of the story, to help my already awakened readers protect themselves.’
’As for how to hint at it...’
Sean hadn’t figured that part out yet.
’I’ll deal with the Holy Sanctuary business first.’
Yisha asked, quite curious, "Don’t your fans pester you for updates?"
She was an avid novel reader herself.
It was just a different genre. She loved stories about a fallen heiress who returns to her family and goes on a rampage, utterly destroying all the annoying villains and scattering their ashes to the wind. If a story’s plot moved too slowly, she and her fellow readers would activate "Update Now!" mode, using every method at their disposal to get the author to hurry up and serve them the next Chapter.
