Chapter 123: Chapter 79: Plane Crash
"Unites... Credy!"
Hurricane Spell.
This was far more ferocious than the Wind Spell Sean had taught himself in the Black Fruit Rainforest when he had just become a Wizard.
Sand, dirt, and leaves on the ground suddenly swirled up, spinning into the air and forming a visible tornado that shot straight up toward the two of them.
The force of a freefall from several thousand meters was nothing to scoff at. Sean and Elise plummeted like cannonballs, instantly shattering the tornado. However, their descent was also drastically slowed as a result.
BAM!
Sean felt like he had just fallen from the seventh floor and landed on a safety cushion held by firefighters.
Because Elise was under him.
But even so, the impact left him dizzy and seeing stars.
"Mr. Sean... get up, quick." Elise was in too much pain to care about her ladylike image, crying out with a grimace, "You’re going to crush me."
Sean quickly got up and tried to pull Elise up as well.
But Elise, her expression twisted in pain, refused. "Let me just lie here for a bit."
Before Sean could speak, she continued, "Don’t worry about thanking me for now. See if your phone is broken... Do you have it on you?"
Her own phone was a lost cause; she had left it on the plane in the rush.
Sean had his. He had been chatting with Elvire earlier and wasn’t using it. He pulled it out of his bag now, and it seemed to still work. He nodded at Elise. "It’s not broken."
"Good. We’re counting on you to contact the others now," Elise said.
Sean looked up at the sky.
The plane was on fire, its fuselage tilting and spinning as it trailed a long plume of black smoke. It flew lower and lower, soon crashing through a large swath of trees and into the forest. Sean heard a tremendous crash from an unknown distance. It seemed the plane had also suffered a second explosion on impact, making the ground beneath his feet tremble faintly.
If the crash was already a great misfortune, something even more unfortunate was now happening.
In less than a minute, Sean saw thick smoke billowing up from the distant forest as countless birds flapped their wings and fled into the sky.
The plane crash had started a forest fire!
"Those bastards... Dying ten thousand times wouldn’t be enough to atone for their sins." Elise had also noticed the rapidly spreading fire in the distance, and she cursed through gritted teeth, despite her pain.
A perfectly good trip, ruined right at the start, and it had even caused a major disaster. The only good news now was that the fire was relatively far from her and Sean, giving them ample time to escape the forest.
As for Elvire and the others, they would naturally be fine.
Although the attack had been sudden and without any warning—they had barely even warmed their seats—none of them were rookies. Which of them hadn’t fought their way out of a Witch Hunter encirclement? It would take more than a bit of dynamite to claim their lives.
However, since they were targeted, even High-tier Wizards weren’t made of steel. It was inevitable that they would suffer some injuries.
After confirming Sean had gotten away safely, Elvire and the others had no more worries and simply jumped from the plane, each relying on their own abilities.
The reason Sean didn’t see them when he looked up was that Elvire and the others had already jumped before he and Elise landed.
Kate’s Cultivation was in light.
Where there was light, it was nearly impossible for him to die.
Needless to say, the Tier Six Sopea, while not skilled in combat, was more than capable of protecting herself. Shielding Koni as well was a simple matter.
Yisha, Lante, and the Tier Four female secretary each made their own way down. In short, Wizards had many methods and wouldn’t just fall to their deaths.
Elvire went even further, activating a Secret Technique to unfurl a pair of Fire Wings. Her intention wasn’t to escape, but to kill.
Unfortunately, the moment the explosion occurred, several passengers were incinerated. The explosives had been strapped to them, so they were the first to face the blast. The terrifyingly high temperatures melted them until not even bone fragments remained. Elvire felt no satisfaction; she only hated that the bastards had died too quickly for her to get her revenge personally.
She even made a point of checking the cockpit.
The pilot, flight attendants, and captain had met the same fate as those Witch Hunters.
Logically, they could have been innocent—perhaps they’d received a call from a superior telling them not to ask questions and just take off on time. It was also possible they had been replaced long ago, and that everyone else, from the captain to the passengers, were all Witch Hunters.
But regardless of the truth, the bodies were gone. With no one left to question, there were no leads to follow.
The flight had taken off at ten in the morning. Sean and the others had arrived at the airport at nine and boarded in succession.
By seven in the evening, the group had reconvened.
They met in a small town on the edge of the forest.
The townspeople were all as anxious as ants on a hot pan, sweating profusely as they ran back and forth to fight the fire.
There were also helicopters in the sky, ostensibly helping with search and rescue. Or rather—they were patrolling.
’They want to see if there are any survivors from this "accidental incident."’
After all, Sean had never heard of any state government using attack helicopters for a rescue mission.
But they were destined to find nothing.
As soon as they noticed the approaching helicopters, Sean and the others had hidden in an underground wine cellar.
This town was famous for its wine. The wine in the cellar was already finished product, packaged and ready to be sold, yet a rich, sweet, and fragrant aroma still filled the air.
Kate had found this place. The owner had told them they could drink as much of the wine in the cellar as they wanted.
Because Kate had bought it all.
Normally, people buy wine to celebrate, but at this moment, everyone’s expressions were grim.
Grim in the literal, physical sense.
Yisha’s long hair had been singed into curls. Kate’s female secretary had a burn on her neck, which was covered with a Magic Potion.
Lante’s clothes were in tatters, with a section of his thigh exposed, which infuriated him, as he was accustomed to elegance.
’If it weren’t for those damn thugs having no sense of a Knight’s honor and launching a sneak attack, how could I have ended up in such a sorry state?’
Elise had jumped early, so her face showed no obvious injuries. Her back, however, was covered in bloody scrapes, and her clothes were completely torn up. The reason she had refused Sean’s help earlier was not only because of the pain and needing a moment to recover, but also because she didn’t want him to see her back. ’It’s too ugly.’
Elvire’s originally exquisite, beautiful face was also smudged with soot. Within the blackened area was a small cut, caused by flying glass shards as she jumped last. The sight made Sean’s heart ache.
Among the nine of them, only he had been protected so well that he hadn’t suffered a single scratch.
The other was Koni. With Sopea protecting her, the young girl had only lost a few strands of hair from the tips.
"This was my fault. I dragged everyone into this," Sean said apologetically.
’The injuries were minor, true, but they were still injuries. If it weren’t for protecting him, with the abilities of Elvire and the others, they should have been able to escape completely unscathed from the very beginning.’
But Elvire shook her head and comforted him instead. "Don’t blame yourself. This isn’t your fault."
She wasn’t just trying to make excuses for Sean; it was the truth. Sean had been in Alola Town this whole time and hadn’t gone out. In the eyes of the Witch Hunters, his Level was most likely still pegged at Tier Two. And would they really go to such lengths—blowing up an entire airplane—just to kill a Tier Two Wizard?
In this era, airplanes were not ordinary vehicles; each one was incredibly valuable. To put it bluntly, Sean’s head wasn’t worth that price. Therefore, this attack wasn’t aimed at Sean, but at them—the Tier Five Wizards.
If she were in the enemy’s shoes, she would have made the same choice.
With so many high-value targets gathered in one place, it was a rare opportunity. As long as they could take out even one, blowing up the plane would not be a loss.
"I just checked," Yisha said indignantly. "The Florist Family has shares in this airline. It’s most likely them again, those bastards who never give up their wicked designs."
"No." Kate refuted the young woman’s guess, saying seriously, "My company has deep dealings with them. The Florist Family isn’t as all-powerful as you imagine. A plane crash is no small matter. The losses aren’t just monetary; it affects the public’s trust in government industries."
Faith is built on trust. If that trust is shaken, faith will crumble along with it. This is especially true during the Day of Abstinence, which is the peak travel season for everyone. It’s no exaggeration to say that this was an extremely serious transportation incident. The Florist Family alone would absolutely not dare to make such a momentous decision.
Therefore, there is only one possibility.
"The person who made a move against us this time holds more Power than the Florist Family."
