Chapter 115: Chapter 76: "Me and Cultivation Don’t Conflict
"What do you mean, you’ve seen it with your own eyes?"
Elise asked, puzzled. ’Is he saying what I think he’s saying?’
"You’ve been to the Kovri ruins?"
"I have," Sean replied.
Elise’s red lips parted, but just as she was about to express her astonishment, Sean added, "But not completely."
Elise: "..."
’Been there, but not completely...’
’What does that even mean?’
’Why does that sound so dirty?’
’And besides—’
"If you’ve been to the Kovri ruins, then why don’t you just take us there? What’s there to look for?" Elise asked, confused.
That was the heart of the matter.
"Having been there doesn’t mean I know where it is," Sean said with a serious expression. "You might not believe this, but only my eyes went."
"And they were air-dropped. It was like two hailstones shaped like my eyes suddenly fell from the sky."
Elise: "..."
’What a weird analogy.’
"Anyway, you should just trust me. The Holy Sanctuary is definitely still there," Sean said. "We just need to find it."
"I suppose I can believe you. The worst that can happen is a wasted trip," Elise said, winking at Sean. "But your Miss Flame Crow might not."
The fact that the ruins of the Holy Sanctuary still existed was no small matter, especially since they had already verified it was gone. They couldn’t possibly overturn the results of their own investigation based on Sean’s word alone. If they were to treat this as a serious matter, Sean would have to provide a convincing reason—or rather, evidence—to prove he had really been to the ruins.
But Sean’s method of visiting Kovri was a bug involving the Statue Card Void Technique Space. His comings and goings were just him "passing through" the Spiritual Domain. He couldn’t take anything with him, nor could he bring anything back. Besides, over there he was just a "statue," with only his mind able to move. Even if he could bring something, he wouldn’t know how.
Although Sean had successfully made the statue float using a few minor spells like Light as a Feather and Whistling Wind, there wasn’t much he could do. He didn’t dare to float too high. In this era, there was no such thing as a Remote-Controlled Stone Carving. If someone took a picture of it, he’d be on the front page the next day.
Back when he was a Priest, Sean had witnessed the profound professional skills of certain journalists. They had a real talent for exploring the beauty of language, and who knew what kind of story they would spin about him.
If a Witch Hunter who recognized the statue happened to see that news, the trouble would be even greater.
That’s why Sean had only wandered around a small area of the city. He had managed to map out the paths through the ruins and even left his own markers, but he still had no idea how to get to the ruined city or where it was located.
He couldn’t exactly shove Elise into the statue and let her see for herself, could he?
Evidence? There was no way he could provide any.
But he did have a "witness."
Faced with Elise’s skepticism, Sean didn’t blush or skip a beat. He stated directly, "Lord Blake took me."
When in doubt, blame Blake.
Anything that couldn’t be explained was Lord Blake’s doing.
Elise: "..."
’Oh, Lord Blake.’
’Well, I guess I have to believe it now...’
’As if!’
Elise was very curious. "What exactly is your relationship with Lord Blake? Why does he tell you everything?"
"Can’t be helped. Who else could I be but Lord Blake’s confidant?" Sean had already prepared his lines, shrugging as he spoke.
Elise was noncommittal. "Is that so?"
"Since when did Lord Blake have a confidant?"
She only knew Lord Blake had female admirers, not confidants.
"A recent development," Sean said, speaking with a confidence that defied reason. "Don’t forget my profession. I’m a novelist, and Lord Blake is the protagonist of my book. No one understands Lord Blake’s greatness better than I do."
The moment she heard the word "greatness," Elise understood. Her urge to roast him shot through the roof. ’You call that being a confidant? You’re just shamelessly sucking up to Lord Blake.’ She couldn’t even be bothered to call him out.
But snarky thoughts aside, Elise inwardly agreed that "greatness" was a fitting descriptor for Blake. After all, he was a legendary figure who had defined an era. Logically and emotionally, he deserved everyone’s respect and admiration.
However, Elise still didn’t think Elvire would go with Sean to search for the Kovri ruins.
The reasons were simple.
First, the two of them were still in the middle of a cold war.
’If they were to go on a long trip together, someone would have to give in first, right?’
Second, the meeting regarding the Day of Abstinence event in Alola Town was about to be held.
The event itself wasn’t the main point. Elvire had little interest in such things. Aside from winning a flyball tournament once to show her enthusiasm when she first arrived in Alola Town, she had never participated again. Elvire much preferred being a spectator.
This time, however, she might not even get to be a spectator.
Because Blake would appear at the meeting and tell everyone how to enter the upper floors of the Holy Sanctuary.
Knowing Elvire’s personality, she would definitely try it.
Elvire was already very close to Tier Six as it was. It was just that there had been too many trivial matters recently—especially those involving Sean.
One moment she was air-shipping medicine for Sean, the next she was asking Sopea to help Sean with Entering the Dream, and then she was even hiring a Witch to create a custom Magic Potion for him...
As a result, Elvire hadn’t had much time for Meditation lately. Otherwise, Sopea might not necessarily have been the first to break through to Tier Six.
Don’t be fooled by Elvire’s silence and apparent indifference. In reality, the young woman cared a great deal. The prouder a person is, the more they compare themselves to others. She didn’t want to lose, no matter the competition.
Therefore, once she successfully entered the 3rd Floor of the Holy Hall and acquired new knowledge, Elvire would most likely use the opportunity to go into seclusion. Just like Sopea, she wouldn’t come out until she had made her Breakthrough to Tier Six.
