Chapter 114: Chapter 75: The Vanished Era of Polymath
The slightly more troublesome part was that, according to the intelligence he’d gathered, Sean was currently in Alola Town.
That place was not easy to get into. With an event coming up soon, there would be even more High-tier Wizards than usual. All of them together were about equivalent to a "Blake"—after all, they were all people he couldn’t handle.
But that was fine.
He could wait.
Sabeck had read Sean’s file. The guy seemed to love adventure. Someone like that wouldn’t stay in Alola Town forever; such a peaceful life was too dull. Sean wouldn’t be able to sit still. So, all he had to do was wait patiently. He believed that before long, the writer would walk out of the safe zone on his own.
It had to be said.
Sabeck was really something else.
He had guessed correctly.
Sean was indeed planning to take a long trip soon.
He wanted to search for the ruins of the Hall of Truth.
Inside the Void Technique Space, after some persuasion and a clear statement from Adelf, everyone temporarily left the conference room.
When Sean returned, there was no one in sight. He did hear voices by the door, however; it sounded like Adelf was giving some instructions to Kate. Sean paid it no mind, quietly emerging from behind the statue before logging off and returning to the hospital.
Elise and Lante were still standing guard in the hospital room. When the latter saw him wake up, it was as if he were seeing his own father, who had been declared brain-dead, finally open his eyes. He was so excited he became a bit incoherent. "Mr. Sean, you’re finally alive!"
Sean: "?"
’Wait, was I dead?’
Elise also let out a long sigh of relief and smiled. "It’s good that you’re awake. Are you feeling any discomfort?"
Sean: "No?"
He was a little confused about the situation. Why was Elise here too?
After asking a few questions, Sean learned that everyone had thought something had happened to him and had been extremely worried. He felt both apologetic and speechless. "But didn’t you say it’s normal to take a few days to absorb the Magic Potion?"
"It is normal," Lante said. Theoretically, not just a few days—even a few months wouldn’t be a problem. But worry makes people irrational. Plus, Sean had achieved his breakthrough in just a few hours, which, in Lante’s eyes, meant he had finished absorbing the potion ahead of schedule. The rest of the time, he was just sleeping.
And prolonged sleep due to unknown causes was universally classified as a "coma" by the medicine of this era.
Sean: "..."
"In that case, did Miss Flame Crow come by as well?" he asked.
Elise’s tone was teasing. "What, you just woke up and you’re already looking for Miss Flame Crow? Miss her?"
"Ahem." Sean cleared his throat. "I have something I need to discuss with her."
’Elvire is my only relative in this life,’ he thought. ’What’s wrong with missing her a little?’
’It’s perfectly normal.’
"If you don’t mind, you can tell me first," Elise said with a blink. "She went to the Void Technique Space to handle some things. She might not be back until later."
Sean thought for a moment, then nodded. "That works."
He could trust Elise.
In fact, he could trust the Witch, too.
But Lante himself said, "Wait, I’ll give you two some privacy."
Lante was very happy that Sean was willing to trust him, especially since he had just been questioned by Elvire. This trust seemed all the more precious. But he knew his place and had his own sense of propriety. This was Sean’s "family matter," and it was better for an outsider like him to step out.
Lante gently closed the door behind him.
Sean chuckled, not insisting that Lante stay. ’I’ll thank him for the Magic Potion another day,’ he thought. ’Lante’s been watching over me for so long without a wink of sleep. He deserves a good rest.’
"What did you want to talk about, Mr. Sean?" Elise asked as she sat down and began to peel an apple.
Sean sat up, stretching his arms and legs. "Have you guys ever tried to find the ruins of the Hall of Truth?" he asked.
Elise paused, the movement of her hands stopping for a moment. She hadn’t expected Sean to bring this up; it was rather sudden. "Of course we have," she replied.
It wasn’t just her and Elvire who had searched.
Almost everyone who cared about Blake and the Holy Sanctuary had gone searching for the sanctuary’s ruins.
People like Kate, Sopea, the Night Watcher, and so on.
But in the end, everyone got the same result.
They didn’t find it.
Sean was puzzled. "How could you not find it? With your abilities, shouldn’t it be easy to find?"
Ruins aren’t like people; they aren’t small targets that can move around. They’re fixed in place, and this one includes all of Kovri. An abandoned city that large would be hard to hide, wouldn’t it?
"We also thought it would be easy to find at first," Elise said. "Especially since we remembered Kovri’s geographical location."
The very center of the continent was the Holy City of the Church Court. Kovri was near the Holy City. We couldn’t remember the exact direction, but it was only a few hundred kilometers away at most. Even if we used the crudest method of searching in every direction—north, south, east, and west—it shouldn’t have taken much time.
But as it turned out, they were wrong.
Five years ago, she and Elvire took a world map and went to the center of the continent.
There, they found bustling, beautiful, cosmopolitan metropolises. This was expected; after all, hundreds of years had passed since the Era of Polymath. The former Holy Land of Kovri couldn’t possibly have remained the same. So they moved into these cities and began to investigate carefully in their own ways.
They figured that even if the wheels of history could crush everything, Kovri, as one of the most glorious city-states of its time, should have left some trace behind. But in the end, no matter how they searched, even digging three feet deep, they couldn’t find a single shred of evidence that Kovri and the Holy Sanctuary had ever existed.
It wasn’t just Kovri; it was the same for the Holy City of the Church Court.
The city at the center of the continent was called "New Elderidge," or New Eldo for short. It had the largest church in the world, which was the same as in the Era of Polymath. But the church’s appearance, the city’s customs, and even the local environment and products were all completely different from the Holy City.
The entire Era of Polymath had vanished from the world as if it were an ancient civilization from a science fiction novel, leaving no trace behind, as though it had never existed.
Moreover, there wasn’t a single word about the Era of Polymath in this world’s history books.
If she and Elvire hadn’t awakened their memories and met Adelf and Kate on the road—who were also searching for Kovri and the Holy Sanctuary—they might have thought they were losing their minds.
Hearing this, the fearful face of Chris once again appeared in Sean’s mind.
"They’re covering it all up."
Sean repeated.
Elise sighed. "Then one can only say they’ve done a very good job of covering it up."
The Witch Hunt Operation might have been part of it.
In this day and age, Wizards have been all but eradicated. This world has become a world of ordinary people. Textbooks no longer contain Mysticism, only subjects like mathematics, physics, and foreign languages—just hearing about them is enough to give you a headache.
"Is it possible you were looking in the wrong place?" Sean said. "Perhaps the Kovri that remains today isn’t a bustling city, but a giant ruin."
Elise shook her head. "There are no ruins at the center of the continent."
We scanned underground. There’s nothing there.
"Why insist on the center of the continent?" Sean said. "What if there was a natural disaster in the past few hundred years, like a great flood that broke the landmass apart?"
Elise said, amused, "You actually believe in the theory of continental drift?"
"The theory doesn’t matter," Sean said, looking out the window. "What matters is that I know Kovri is in a different time zone from us."
The sun was shining brightly outside the window.
When he logged off from inside the statue, the sky in the Kovri Ruins was very dark, yet it still wasn’t dark in Alola Town. This meant that not only was there a time difference between the two places, but it was a significant one.
Sean had looked at a world map the last time he went to the Black Fruit Rainforest. The town’s location wasn’t too far from the center of the continent. That region clearly didn’t fit the conditions for such a time difference, so it was normal that they couldn’t find Kovri there.
"Fine." Elise didn’t argue with Sean. She was considerate of the patient. She cut a slice of apple, held it to Sean’s lips, and said, "Even if, as you say, all of us were looking in the wrong place, how can you be so sure that you’re right?"
Where did the ruins come from?
And where did the time difference come from?
Sean took a bite of the apple and looked at Elise. "Because I saw it with my own eyes."
Elise: "?"
