Chapter 116: Chapter 76: "Me and Cultivation Don’t Conflict
This led to a classic, age-old question—
Elise asked Sean teasingly, "Mr. Sean, let’s say you love to study, but your girlfriend doesn’t want you to and wants you to spend time with her instead. What would you do?"
To put it more bluntly: "Which is more important, studying or your girlfriend?"
Without a moment’s hesitation, Sean replied, "Of course I’d tell her to go amuse herself and not to bother me."
’Women would only slow down the speed at which I cast Forbidden Spells.’
This wasn’t a hypothetical at all. It was his past self—Carl Black himself.
Elise wasn’t the least bit surprised by this answer. The fact that Sean still hadn’t tried to make up with Elvire was enough to prove that a girlfriend was not his top priority.
It wasn’t that Sean’s way of thinking was wrong. It’s normal for people to have different views on love, and arguing about who was right or wrong was pointless. She just wanted to tell Sean that Elvire might very well make the same choice.
Besides, in the young woman’s heart, she and Sean weren’t even a couple yet.
Elise could just picture Elvire tilting her head, scoffing with disdain. "Sean who? Am I supposed to know him well? Why should I be the one to accommodate him?"
As she thought about it, Elise couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Sean looked at her, baffled. "What are you laughing at?"
Elise replied, "I was just thinking of something happy."
Sean: "?"
’What’s so funny? Why don’t you share it so I can have a laugh, too?’
"Anyway, your chances of success aren’t high." Elise was, in her own way, trying to strategize for Sean. "Elvire is a very kind person, and increasing her Magic Power is very important to her."
Only by becoming strong enough can she help others and end this brutal farce of a Wizard hunt.
"You can’t compete with the mission and ideals she has set for herself."
"At least, not for now," Elise added.
Her words might sound a bit harsh, but it was the truth. Elise had always believed that Elvire’s Charm as a woman never came from her appearance, but from what was within her heart.
Sean hadn’t spent much time with Elvire, so perhaps he couldn’t appreciate that yet. But it didn’t matter. It was only a matter of time. Give it a few more days, and the two of them would one day truly understand each other.
But Sean said, "I think you’re looking at this from the wrong angle."
Elise went, "Huh?"
"Why does Miss Flame Crow have to make a choice?" A mysterious curve formed on Sean’s lips. "Is it possible that for her, me and Cultivation aren’t mutually exclusive?"
Elise didn’t understand.
Of course, she couldn’t understand.
In her past life, Elise’s status wasn’t high. Based on her recovered memories, she was merely a member of a Baron Family. In the Empire’s hierarchy of nobility, Baron was the lowest rank, just barely scraping the threshold of "aristocracy." However, this didn’t stop her from having lofty goals and ideals—to leave her family, go to Kovri City, and witness the true splendor of the Era of Polymath.
Unfortunately, her Talent was limited, and she never managed to enter the core levels of the Holy Sanctuary. She only ever gained the recognition of the statues outside and on the first floor, becoming one of many ordinary "second-year" students.
Elise’s memories were more restored than Elvire’s, but she herself had no knowledge of what was in the upper echelons of the Holy Sanctuary. She never even had the chance to read the books on the third floor of the library, let alone the fourth floor where the *Fallen Nether Technique* was stored.
「Two days later.」
The Dawn Council convened.
"What?!"
"Opening both the third and fourth floors of the library at the same time??"
"And they contain the Forbidden Meditation Technique and a dual Meditation technique?"
At the meeting, Sean arrived as promised and, through a statue, informed Adelf and the others that the third and fourth floors of the Holy Sanctuary would be opened simultaneously.
To improve efficiency, Sean didn’t bother with any fancy tricks. He just applied a Reverb Spell to his voice to maintain Lord Blake’s dignified and mysterious air.
The moment everyone heard that two floors were being opened, they erupted into an uproar.
If Sean hadn’t warned them beforehand not to shout and to remain composed, Adelf would have wept with joy. His aged eyes glistened with tears. He never expected that Lord Blake, after being absent, would return to give them such a massive surprise.
Before the meeting, Adelf had already reminded everyone that they were absolutely forbidden from mentioning "rewards" in front of Lord Blake. Even if they truly wanted them, they first had to complete the tasks Lord Blake assigned—work first, discuss "payment" later. That was the proper way for "followers."
But Adelf never imagined that Lord Blake would have them do nothing at all, instead directly opening the third and fourth floors of the Holy Sanctuary first.
"Lord Blake is such a good person!" Many Wizards were moved beyond words.
If there were still people who didn’t understand why Blake had such great Charm, they understood now.
What is magnanimity?
What is generosity?
This is magnanimity! This is generosity!
In this day and age, every piece of knowledge about Mysticism was incredibly precious, yet Lord Blake gave it away just like that. It was enough to make you cry!
Sopea, who had been specially invited to attend the meeting as a guest, looked at them with an expression of disdain.
’What do you mean, "good person"?’
’So uncultured.’
’This is called righteousness!’
"Mr. Blake is truly righteous!" Sopea declared, his voice louder than anyone else’s.
Sean: "..."
He seriously suspected Sopea had shouted that on purpose for him to hear.
The meeting continued.
Sean then made three more points.
"..."
Then he came and went quietly, like an old man indifferent to fame and fortune. ’You can all heap praise on me as much as you like; it has nothing to do with me.’
During the meeting, he had secretly glanced at Elvire.
When he saw Elvire was also secretly watching him, Sean decisively pulled his gaze back, pretending he hadn’t recognized the young woman.
