Chapter 110: Chapter 73: Ruins of the Holy Sanctuary
A "Whistling Wind."
Since he had nothing to do while he waited anyway, Sean decided to give it a try.
And that one try lasted a full three days.
「Alola Town, in a hospital room.」
If Sean weren’t still breathing with a normal heart rate and vital signs, Elvire would have thought he was about to be reincarnated all over again.
A few days ago, after Sean took the High-Potency Potion, Elvire had come by but he was already asleep. She came again the next day, and then the day after, but Sean was still sleeping. Today was the fourth day, well past Lante’s predicted timeframe. If Sean didn’t wake up soon, Elvire was really going to give Lante a hard time.
In fact, even if Elvire didn’t go looking for Lante, Lante himself was already breaking out in a cold sweat.
’This shouldn’t be happening...’
’There are no sleep-inducing ingredients in this formula. How could he sleep for so long?’
As a Witch with vast experience in Alchemy, Lante had seen it on the very first day. Sean was absorbing the Magic Potion faster than he had imagined, entering the final stage of purging excess Magic Power from his body in just a few hours. Theoretically, Sean should have woken up that first night. The fact that he hadn’t was likely because his body, exhausted from resisting the potion’s painful effects and adapting to new cells, needed rest and had simply fallen into a deep sleep.
Lante didn’t think much of it at first.
After all, the Magic Potion had been completely absorbed and he had broken through to the next Tier. What else could go wrong?
But unexpectedly, Sean didn’t wake up the next day, or the day after, or even on the fourth day.
Now, no matter how much faith Lante had in his Magic Potions, he couldn’t help but feel a little panicked.
Just as he said, the High-Potency Potion Sean had taken contained no sleep-inducing substances. On the contrary, the potion was extremely volatile; during the absorption process, one couldn’t fall asleep even if they wanted to. It was precisely because of this extreme volatility that any Wizard who took it would face one of two outcomes: either their body would explode and they would die, or they would emerge completely unharmed.
In other words, even if Sean hadn’t been able to withstand the High-Potency Magic Potion’s effects, he shouldn’t be lying here sleeping so peacefully. At the very least, there wouldn’t be a bed—because he would have blown the entire hospital to smithereens. What bed would be left?
Lante had never hidden the risks of taking a High-Potency Magic Potion. A potion of this concentration was less a medicine and more a poison. Its danger was fatal, but even "fatal" had different ways of manifesting. Sean didn’t look like he had taken a High-Potency Magic Potion at all; he looked like he had downed a can of sleeping pills.
In short, it was very strange.
Lante had no idea how to explain it.
But Elvire didn’t care about any of that. She only wanted one outcome.
An outcome where Sean woke up safe and sound.
"If he’s not awake by tomorrow, you’re coming with me to see the Lie Breaker," Elvire said, leaving him with that parting shot. She gave Lante a long, hard look before leaving the room.
The Lie Breaker was a master of Mind Magic, a walking lie detector. The Lie Breaker’s contributions were a major reason Alola Town had survived for so long, as they had largely eliminated the possibility of enemies infiltrating the town or moles appearing among the populace. By telling Lante to see them, Elvire was showing that she had begun to doubt his identity.
To put it bluntly, for Lante, a man from an ancient Knight Family, such a suspicion was tantamount to an insult.
Elise watched the young woman’s departing figure and couldn’t help but chuckle. She turned to Lante with an apologetic smile and said, "I’m sorry, Mr. Witch. Miss Flame Crow is just too worried about Sean. She can be a bit blunt, so please don’t take it to heart."
"It’s fine." Lante shook his head.
He could completely understand Elvire’s feelings, because he himself was also very anxious.
’Every step was correct, so why won’t Sean wake up?’
Lante racked his brain but couldn’t come up with an answer.
"Let’s just wait a little longer," Elise said, looking at Sean’s beautiful sleeping face. She would find it a great pity if he never woke up.
None of the three ever considered that Sean himself didn’t want to "wake up."
At that moment, he was having the time of his life, controlling the statue as it floated and drifted through the sky.
Sean still had no idea that Elvire had been watching over him for days. If he had known, he probably would have returned to Alola Town sooner, at least to let the young woman know he was safe.
And the consequences of his unintentional act didn’t stop there.
After all, Sean wasn’t famous yet, so the events in the hospital were only known to a small circle of people including Elvire. Even Sopea, the Dream Tutor whom Lord Blake trusted deeply, knew nothing about it.
But there was another matter, one that almost every Wizard who could enter the Void Technique Space knew about—
"Lord Blake has been resurrected!"
This was the most frequently spoken sentence among Wizards over the past few days.
The crucial part was that the Dawn Council hadn’t made any official announcement.
When Adelf first heard that rumors of Lord Blake’s resurrection were spreading like wildfire in the Void Technique Space, he suspected that some loose-lipped "sweetheart" had let the news slip. ’Isn’t this just asking for trouble?’ he thought.
’What if Lord Blake doesn’t show up for the meeting?’
’Who’s going to be responsible for cleaning up the negative fallout?’
’This won’t just tarnish the Dawn Council’s reputation; it will tarnish Lord Blake’s reputation.’
’Have they never heard of leaving some wiggle room, so you can walk things back later?’
Adelf had planned to launch a strict investigation to see who the loose-lipped one was, but halfway through his investigation, he realized he was wrong.
No one had leaked the secret.
Or rather, the leak hadn’t come from the Dawn Council.
It had come from Lord Blake himself.
Because the statue, which had stood like a saint in the conference room on the second floor of the Holy Sanctuary, had suddenly disappeared.
As everyone knew, only Lord Blake himself could move Lord Blake’s statue.
The reason the second-floor statue was in the conference room was because it had always been there; no Wizard had moved it, because no one had that ability.
If the statue blinking its eyes before was a "small stir," then this was a "major disturbance," and a completely flagrant one at that.
One had to remember, while the number of Wizards who could access the second floor wasn’t huge, it wasn’t small either. It wasn’t just the few administrators of the Dawn Council, but also many Wizards from other unions, such as Sopea.
The conference room was also a shared space. As long as there was no scheduling conflict and the organization’s leaders could access the second floor, anyone could use the conference room for a meeting.
And once a few people know something, more and more people will find out. It’s impossible to keep it a secret. In just one afternoon, every Wizard on the first floor of the Holy Sanctuary knew about it.
By the next day, the news that Lord Blake had taken his statue from the second floor of the Holy Sanctuary had spread throughout the city. Even the usually quiet North Street, a place for Meditation, was buzzing with excited discussion. Lord Blake wasn’t dead after all! Hooray!
The reason Elvire had left the hospital room was to go home and enter the Void Technique Space to deal with this matter.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have left.
Sean was her person. Why would she leave?
She would have just kicked Lante out instead.
But she had business to attend to, so she let Elise watch over Sean and Lante.
"Lord Blake’s resurrection" was a much trickier issue to handle than she had imagined.
Not in terms of suppressing the news, but in terms of the "right to an audience with the saint."
There were countless Wizards in the world, and not all of them belonged to the Dawn Council. Besides, Lord Blake didn’t belong to the Dawn Council either; he belonged to the Era of Polymath, to all Wizards. On what grounds could the little Dawn Council monopolize the chance for everyone to hear Lord Blake’s words with their own ears?
You think only the Dawn Council knows how to hold a meeting?
Not a chance.
We’ll hold one too!
This wasn’t just empty talk. Several Wizard Organizations, including the Long Night Union from Krim State, were rallying members online. They had already gathered a crowd and were waiting in the conference room. Someone had even made a banner with a few large words written in the old tongue of the Era of Polymath—
[WELCOME HOME, LORD BLAKE!]
Just looking at it gave Elvire a headache.
Adelf, who had just arrived, was also rubbing his temples.
Kate, meanwhile, was arguing heatedly with the group.
’They actually think they can steal his job? What a joke!’
"I’ll give you five million. Stay away from Lord Blake!"
"A joke! Forget five million, even for five hundred million, we wouldn’t hesitate for a second!"
Kate sneered, "To accept immediately, right?"
The other party returned a cold smile. "Why don’t you produce five hundred million first, and then we’ll talk."
Any Wizard who could reach the second floor of the Holy Sanctuary was a person of status. No one was afraid of anyone else. If you dared to curse, I dared to curse back.
For a time, the group was locked in a furious, intractable argument.
Until, with a HUM...
The air in the corner of the conference room distorted.
The statue, which had been missing for several days, suddenly returned without any warning.
Everyone’s eyes went wide as they double- and triple-checked that they weren’t seeing things.
Then, as if they had rehearsed it beforehand, with tears in their eyes and voices brimming with emotion, they all cried out in unison—
"Lord Blake! We’ve missed you to death!"
Sean: "?"
’Wait a minute, who are you people?’
