Chapter 31: Benefit
"Ma’am, she’s coming."
The maid quickly ran to the kitchen as he reported to Rhea after spotting Kathe, who was heading to the kitchen to prepare the old lady’s tea. That had become Kathe’s normal routine.
"Quickly arrange the food," Rhea ordered, and the maid quickly arranged the food on a tray.
Rhea kept glancing to make sure that Kathe was close enough to the kitchen.
When she saw that Kathe was close enough to the kitchen, she quickly ran to where the maid was standing.
"Wait, I will take this to Jark. This is one of his favorite foods,I hope he love enjoy it" Rhea said, taking the food tray from the maid. She turned around and deliberately bumped into Kathe.
"Sorry about that."
"Where are you in a rush to?" Kathe asked as she blocked Rhea’s path.
"It’s none of your business," Rhea retorted back, annoyed.
"This isn’t the office, Rhea. Where are you in a rush to so early in the morning, and that with a food tray?" Kathe asked as she looked at the food tray.
Rhea rolled her eyes in annoyance. "If you want to know, it’s for Jark. Any problems?"
Kathe folded her arms as she began to interrogate, "Why are you taking food to him?"
"Nothing. It’s just an old hobby," Rhea replied, smiling like someone who recalled old memories.
"Hmmm, okay."
"Good. I’ve put too much effort into it, so please can you excuse me?"
Kathe nodded, but instead of moving out of the way, she used her hand to snatch the sushi from the tray.
"What the hell?"
"What? I just tasted the food. Or is there anything wrong with me tasting the food?" Kathe shrugged her shoulders as she took another bite from the sushi.
"It wasn’t meant for you," Rhea said through gritted teeth.
"Why are you getting so worked up? Or did you spike something?" Kathe said, raising her eyebrow at her.
"Don’t be ridiculous. Jark is my friend, hey!"
Kathe forcefully collected the tray from Rhea. "Thank you. I think I will eat this one. Don’t worry, I will tell Jark of the stress you went through to make the food."
"Kathe, you seem to be crossing your boundaries."
"Hmmmm," Kathe hummed in reply as she munched on the food. "Are you sure you made the food? Cause it tastes like the regular one."
Rhea was confused by her question. "What do you mean?"
"Since you made it for Jark, I expected a special taste, you know, something different and unique. But don’t worry, this isn’t bad."
"You know what? I dislike you."
Kathe nodded at her before replying, "I know. You’re my top fan."
"Good morning, Kathe," Jacklyn greeted as he walked toward Kathe with a smile.
Kathe suddenly choked on her food. She wasn’t expecting to run into Jacklyn. She had made sure to stay far away from him. She always had a creepy feeling around him.
Cough, cough.
"Water, water!"
Jacklyn ran and got water for her, but Kathe refused to take the water from him.
"Drink some water first."
"No, thank you. I’m fine," Kathe replied as she cleaned the little drops of tears that had gathered around her eyes.
"Are you sure you are fine?" he asked again.
"Yes, I’m fine," Kathe reassured him with a fake smile as she shifted herself away from him. Jacklyn noticed that she was avoiding his touch.
"Rhea, good morning."
He took notice of Rhea after making sure that Kathe was alright, but Rhea ignored him as she glared at Kathe.
"Kathe, it seems like you won’t be going to the office today, right? We can get to spend time together. Trust me, this house is boring."
He said with a grin.
"No, I’m not free. I was just having a discussion with Rhea. I think she will be free," Kathe said as she quickly walked away, leaving Rhea with Jacklyn.
Jacklyn clasped his hands behind his back as he turned to Rhea.
"Are you free, Rhea?"
Rhea rolled her eyes at him.
"I’d rather get tortured by my enemy than spend a day with you."
"Ouch!"
Jacklyn held his chest dramatically like he was hurt by Rhea’s words.
"Rhea, you are still blunt with your words, but it’s okay."
Rhea rolled her eyes at him as she walked away, glad that she had succeeded in her purpose.
The smiling face Jacklyn had suddenly went off the moment Rhea walked away. He stood staring in Kathe’s direction.
"I don’t know how long you will keep running away from me, dear Kathe. You can run, but how far can you go? We are meant to be together, and we will be."
After staring for a while, a creepy smile appeared on his face as he hummed a tune and walked away.
.......................
Rhea kept pacing in her room as she looked at her phone every second, and she had been waiting for an hour, but she didn’t hear from them. She dropped her phone on the bed as she went to use the washroom.
She walked out of the restroom to find her phone ringing. She quickly ran to it and answered the call.
"Is it done?" the mechanical voice rang out from the phone.
"Yes, it’s done," Rhea responded.
"I hope you didn’t put a large quantity in it."
"No, it wasn’t much."
"Good."
"I wanted to ask..." She hesitated, wondering if the person on the other end would get angry, but since she didn’t hear anything, she continued. "What I added to her food... what was that?"
"It’s none of your business."
Though she couldn’t tell if the person was male or female, she could hear the coldness from the voice on the phone.
"I’m sorry."
"Just remember to give her the other content after an hour."
"I’ve made arrangements for that already."
"Good. Don’t worry, you will also benefit from working for me."
Rhea became excited the moment she heard that she was going to benefit.
"Okay. Thank you."
