Chapter 32: mission accomplished

Everything was going well ever since Kathe returned from the kitchen, but after some minutes she started getting weak. Sometimes her stomach heated up like she was having cramps, but when she visited the washroom she found nothing. She was also confused because she wasn’t supposed to be on her flow so soon.

Unknown to her, Jark had been observing her.

"Are you okay?" he asked after he noticed that she had been sweating even when the room was cold.

"I’m fine," Kathe replied weakly with a smile.

Concern was already written on Jark’s face as he stared at her, keenly observing her every movement.

"Are you sure? You have been sweating a lot."

"I’m fine."

This time around, Kathe replied with a smile that reassured Jark.

"Okay, let’s head for breakfast," Jark suggested. He had begun to get accustomed to it. Sometimes he was the one who always reminded Kathe about breakfast.

Just when Kathe was about to nod her head, the heating came again, and she had to look at Jark with pleading eyes.

"Please, can you go without me? I want to use the restroom. I will be down in a minute."

Jark stared at her keenly. Kathe wasn’t the type to give excuses when it came to food. He had noticed that about her, that she seemed to be happier when she was surrounded by food.

"Go. I’m fine. I just want to make use of the restroom."

Jark eventually agreed.

"Okay, come down early."

"I will."

.......................

Jark kept glancing at his watch. It had been more than thirty minutes, and she had not arrived at the dining table.

"I think you should have your breakfast first. She will come down," the old lady suggested. Ever since Jark came to the dining table, he had not eaten anything. Instead, he kept glancing at his watch, and the old lady had been observing him.

"She is never late for breakfast," Jark said.

"Maybe she got delayed," the old lady suggested again. She had never seen her grandson get worried about anyone since the incident that happened, but seeing him worried about Kathe not getting to the dining room on time filled the old lady with warmth that at least her grandson still had a heart.

"I will go check up on her, boss," Thompson, who was standing behind him, suggested after he noticed that his boss had been worried for a while.

"No need. I will go alone."

Jark was about to go back to his room when Kathe suddenly walked into the dining room.

"See, I told you she would be here," the old lady said with a smile.

But the smile disappeared the moment Kathe walked closer. She was looking weak and stressed, and she was also sweating.

"Are you okay?" Jark asked the moment she walked close to him.

Kathe, not wanting to get him worried, had to act a little stronger to reassure him. She had come down to tell Jark that she wouldn’t be able to go to the office. She wanted to tell him how she was feeling, but the way she met him worried, she decided to drop the idea.

"I’m fine, just that I won’t be able to come to the office today. I’m just feeling a bit weak."

"I think it’s due to work stress. You should rest at home," the old lady suggested as she looked at Kathe keenly. She noticed that Kathe looked drained.

"Grandma is right. You should rest. I will call the doctor to check on you."

Jark took out his phone.

"There is no need for a doctor. She’s sick due to the new environment. Did you forget I also got sick when I started to work in the company?" Rhea suggested with a smile.

Jacklyn frowned because when he had met Kathe earlier, she wasn’t looking sick. Something didn’t add up to him.

"Rhea is right. I just need rest. I think I will be fine."

"But..." Jark was still hesitating.

"It’s okay, Jark. I’m here to take care of her," the old lady said, and she really meant it.

"Yes, Grandma is here to take care of me. You can go to work."

With a sigh, Jark gave Thompson his phone to hold.

"Thompson, let’s get going then."

"Have you had your breakfast yet?" Kathe asked as she noticed that his plate was still filled with food.

"I’m late."

"So is that why you won’t eat?"

"It’s late already, and I won’t be able to eat comfortably."

Kathe knew better than to force him.

"Okay. Have a great day at work."

"Wait for me, Jark. I’m done with breakfast."

Rhea stood up and ran toward Jark, but on getting to where Kathe was, she stopped.

"I pray you get better soon."

Kathe couldn’t help but frown, but she was pulled into a hug by Rhea, who whispered into her ear alone,

"Guess who is going to ride with him today? It’s me."

She withdrew from the hug.

"Take care."

She tapped Kathe’s cheek lightly. The old lady only observed without a reaction, same with Jark.

"Jark, let’s get going."

Kathe watched them walk out again, but she didn’t feel jealous this time. She had faith and trust in Jark. She just smiled weakly.

"You need to rest so that you can recover quickly, and also get to make my tea tomorrow. This one is too plain. You can go to the room and rest," the old lady joked.

"Yes, you need to get some rest, but if you need anyone to talk to, I’m here," Jacklyn said with a wide smile.

Kathe’s stomach sank at his smile.

"You have better things to do rather than keeping someone company," Shashe sneered.

"Grandma, I will be leaving for my room."

Kathe wasn’t in the mood to listen to Shashe’s words.

The old lady knew that Kathe wanted to avoid Shashe, and she was glad that she was heading to her room.

"Okay, dear. You need proper rest."

Kathe nodded and walked to the room.
