Chapter 30: Ring Ring Ring

"What are you doing here?" Jark kept the phone back on the table.

"Who were you talking to?" Kathe asked as she walked close to Jark.

"A client. Why did you ask?"

Kathe’s eyebrows were already in a tight knit. "That voice sounded familiar."

"Do you know the voice?"

"Like I said, it sounded familiar, but since you said it’s your client, I don’t think it’s the same person."

"Oh." Jark nodded as he looked at his phone. The call was already disconnected by the other end, making Jark frown slightly. He was about to ask Kathe why she thought the voice was familiar but decided to drop the question.

"But it seemed like your client was threatening you over the phone," Kathe pressed on.

"No, we were just complimenting each other."

"Compliment?" Kathe asked with a frown. ’Who compliments each other with threats?’

"Yes, that’s how we talk. And what’s that in your hands?" Jark asked as he noticed her with the big pile of files.

Carried away by that voice, she had forgotten about the files she was carrying. "I was asked to give this to you," she said, dropping them on the table as she stretched her hands due to the discomfort she had from carrying the heavy files.

Jark looked at the files confused. "I never asked for this."

Kathe raised her eyebrows dramatically. "You didn’t ask that each single one should be made into fifty copies each in twenty minutes?"

Jark was becoming more confused. "Who said that?" and angry that someone used his name to lie. Though Kathe’s identity in the company was hidden, that didn’t give anyone the right to bully her.

"Rhea."

Jark closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Did you make a copy of that?"

Kathe raised her chin. "Of course. I’m not stupid. I knew it was a prank."

Jark was amused by her cleverness. "So what’s that?"

Kathe used her hands to open each of them. "There are blank papers."

Jark opened his mouth to stare at her, more amused by her action. "Then why stress yourself to bring it here?"

She took a seat on the sofa. "For my own selfish agenda."

"What’s that?"

"Fool, it’s lunch time already. It’s time for our lunch."

Jark checked his watch and sighed at how fast time flies. "Let me call Thompson over."

Kathe nodded as she picked up a magazine to read.

Within minutes, Thompson arrived in the office, and Kathe wrote down orders of food for him to buy.

.........................................

Rhea walked toward Kathe’s office with a smug smile on her face, but when she opened the door, she found out that the office was empty. She couldn’t find Kathe inside.

She walked out of the office.

"She isn’t in the office. Where is she?" Rhea asked the spy.

"I saw her walk out of the office to the photocopying room."

"How long now?"

"It’s up to thirty minutes now."

"And she isn’t back to her office?"

"No."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

Rhea decided to stay there and wait for Kathe to return. She didn’t know why she had a bad foreboding.

.........................................

It wasn’t up to five minutes before Thompson had arrived with the food in different flasks.

Kathe was grinning as she looked at each flask and its contents. "I must say, Thompson, you are great at picking food. You know what?" Kathe looked up at him.

"What, ma’am?"

Kathe pushed one of the flasks toward Thompson. "You can take this one. I’ve tasted it, and it’s very delicious. This is for a job well done."

Thompson was very delighted. He reached out his hand to collect the flask but stopped as he suddenly felt a strong murderous instinct. Without looking, he knew that it was from his boss.

"Why did you stop? Come on, take it." Kathe pushed the flask toward Thompson again.

"No, I’m okay. I don’t need it."

"But..."

"I will take it." Jark reached his hand out, dragging the food to himself.

Kathe was confused. "But the food is for..."

"Do you need it?" Jark asked Thompson calmly, but his eyes said otherwise.

Thompson knew that accepting the food would cost him his neck as cold sweat formed on his forehead.

"No, I don’t need it."

Jark’s shoulders shrugged at Kathe as he took his spoon and dug into the food and smacked his lips. "Mmm, indeed, the food is rich in taste and creamy."

"Since you don’t want that one, you can take another one," Kathe suggested.

"No, ma’am. I’m good," Thompson said. He could already feel Jark’s glare. "I will be leaving now."

"Wait, I want you to do something for me." Jark beckoned Thompson to lean in as he whispered in his ear.

Thompson nodded and left the office.

"What did you whisper to him?"

"Nothing. And why are you caring about him all of a sudden?"

"I’m not..." Kathe was about to defend herself but paused on her words as she widened her eyes. "Are you jealous?"

"What... me?" Jark pushed his food closer. "Why will I be jealous? Stop talking and eat. I have a lot of work to do."

Kathe couldn’t control the grin on her face, and each time Jark raised his face, he was met with her grin, so he had to quickly drop his head back to his food.

He didn’t know why he was feeling angry when Kathe offered to give Thompson the food she had tasted and confirmed to be the most delicious instead of him.

.........................................

"Ma’am, I just found out that Mrs. Kathe had used the elevator to the president’s office with files in her hand."

"What? How come?"

"I don’t know, ma’am," the spy said, looking down.

"But I had asked you to watch her every movement."

The worker bowed her head down.

If it was home, Rhea would have hit the worker, but being in the office, she could only control her anger and walk away.

She was heading to her office when she suddenly heard her name.

"Miss Rhea."

Rhea turned only to find Thompson walking toward her.

"Thompson," she called out, more like a whisper.

When he got close to her, he stretched out a file from his hand.

"Boss asked that you should type each of these, and when you are done, you should make a hundred copies each, and it should be delivered to his desk in the next one hour. Also, use your system so that it will have your signature."

Thompson walked away without giving Rhea a chance to speak.

Rhea pressed her lips tightly together. She knew that it was a punishment from Jark after learning that she had tricked Kathe.

She walked to her office in anger. On getting to the office, she walked straight to her table, pushing all the files that were on the table to the floor.

"Bitch."

She was about to push another file when her eyes caught the pictures that were scattered around on the floor. She bent and picked all of them, and immediately her hands began shivering. Those were pictures of when she had pushed Kathe into the pool. Each of them showed her face clearly, and each was taken from a clear angle.

One was when Kathe was standing alone and she sneaked behind her; the second was when Kathe turned to face her. She began to shiver as all the pictures dropped to the floor. It was only the old lady and Jark that knew of this, and if this was posted online, it would damage her reputation.

Ring! Ring! Ring!

The telephone suddenly rang, startling Rhea. She walked to the table intending to end the call, but she later picked it up.

A mechanical voice came through the telephone.

"Hope you liked the photos."

Rhea’s heart skipped as she was suddenly drenched in sweat.

"Who is this?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.

"You can call me your well-wisher..."
