Chapter 1804: Chapter 1804: I’m From the Next Village

"Ha!" Xiangxiang laughed in exasperation once more. She pointed at one of the women with sunburned, skeletal frames and asked, "Where is your home?"

The woman held her child tightly, her lips pressed firmly together. Her eyes reflected a struggle, pain evident, and finally, without sparing Xiangxiang another glance, she bowed her head.

"I... I’m from the neighboring village."

The voice seemed to emerge from deep in her throat.

The woman closed her eyes, a tear trickling down.

She had given up—the chance for freedom was gone.

For the child.

For the child she had carried and painfully given birth to after ten months.

She couldn’t leave this place. The man had already threatened her; if she dared to leave, he would immediately buy another woman. Then, with a new mother, there would be a new father. Once another child came, this child would be left to fend for itself.

She should be grateful that it was a boy. If it were a girl, it might not even have the chance to fend for itself, as these heartless people would drown the child alive.

She had witnessed another woman sold into the mountains give birth to a baby girl, only for the granny to throw her into the river.

Even though the woman was still bleeding after the birth, she jumped into the river to save the child, and in the end, she too was lost.

Xiangxiang was heartbroken with frustration and yelled, "Don’t you miss your parents? Don’t you miss your family? Have you forgotten your past? Are you willing to spend your life in this village?"

Each question hit like a hammer, striking the woman’s heart.

The woman couldn’t stop her tears, yet she bit her lips hard and didn’t utter a word.

Xiangxiang was extremely disappointed. She looked at a woman who pushed a child away. Deep down, she really didn’t like this woman. Though other women had let her down, it didn’t make her want to give up rescuing them.

Meeting Xiangxiang’s gaze, the woman shrieked, "My dad owns a factory! A winery! My family has money, lots and lots of money. Take me away, and I’ll have my dad give you money!"

She had suffered here for five years, bearing three children, two boys and a girl. The girl was drowned right after birth.

She kept telling those people that she was rich and that if they let her go, she would give them a lot of money, enough to buy ten or eight women, but they still wouldn’t release her.

Now, there was finally a chance for rescue. She had to escape this place!

She lunged towards Xiangxiang.

She had already figured out that the woman in red was the leader here. Since she fired without hesitation, she must have great authority, probably a lover of some big shot.

In the eyes of the scummy people, the world itself is scummy.

Beautiful women couldn’t possibly reach high positions by their own abilities. They surely have everything by clinging to men through their looks.

Xiangxiang frowned, avoiding the woman’s touch with disgust. The woman missed her target and fell to the ground. When she looked up, her eyes seemed to curse Xiangxiang.

Remembering that she needed Xiangxiang to get out of there, she reluctantly held back and forced a flattering smile: "Take me with you. My dad really has money and can give you lots of money. How about a million? Would that be enough?"

Xiangxiang sneered, "Do you really think your life is only worth a million?"

The woman didn’t catch the sarcasm in her words and thought Xiangxiang was simply insatiable. Feeling aggrieved, she said, "They bought me for only a thousand bucks."

"Heh." Xiangxiang gave a cold laugh.

Worried that they might leave, the woman hurriedly said, "Ten million, I can’t offer more! Get me out of here, and I’ll have my dad give you ten million!"

"My daughter-in-law’s mind is not right. We are all villagers, where would we have ten million? Don’t listen to her nonsense! Before, it was fine when you claimed to everyone that you were a rich family’s daughter; everyone in the village didn’t take you seriously. But now, you dare to speak wildly in front of the police! Are you tired of living?" The man grabbed the woman and yanked her hair as he pulled her back.
