Chapter 1999: Chapter 1999: The Kid Gets a Bone Transplant (6)
Jiaojiao had completely gotten used to it.
Yang Tao smirked: "This time it’s real!"
"You say that every time," Jiaojiao said.
"..." Yang Tao.
She stopped talking, feeling that silence would convey her firm attitude.
Jiaojiao rested her head on Yang Tao’s arm, they were very close to each other, and asked: "What’s the reason this time, can you tell me?"
Yang Tao pursed her lips.
After some thought, she said: "I realized I’m even more bothered than I thought by him taking on intimate scenes."
Ruan Lei loved acting and had a talent for it. Since entering the film academy, he had been adored by the teachers. In his freshman year, he played all sorts of minor roles, and by the first semester of his sophomore year, he was already a somewhat notable supporting actor. Recently, a very renowned production offered him a script. The supporting role carried significant weight, but it had quite a few intimate scenes, a bit excessive.
Yang Tao and he were in the same school, but she wasn’t on-camera; she was studying directing. Most of the time, she accompanied Ruan Lei around for his acting gigs, effectively serving as half a manager.
When the script came, Ruan Lei was with another crew. Yang Tao received it and read through the character’s scenes first. Honestly, even though this is the industry she’s in, she couldn’t be indifferent watching someone she likes get intimate with others, even if it’s just acting.
So when Ruan Lei returned from the crew, she didn’t immediately hand him the script, instead choosing to hold it back for a while. She knew that if he saw it, he would undoubtedly take it, and she didn’t want him to accept it.
She didn’t intend to keep it from him indefinitely but wanted to discuss whether he could aim to accept fewer intimate scenes in future roles. Yet, before they had the chance to talk, the production team sent the script and first called his mentor, asking whether he would accept it, urging a quick audition if he did.
With this, conflicts arose between them. Even though Yang Tao promptly explained the reason for holding back the script, in Ruan Lei’s view, roles don’t have distinctions. He is passionate about acting, and he is even willing to sacrifice himself, let alone accept intimate scenes.
Of course, he also made it clear that acting is always just acting; he won’t mix his personal life with acting, and there will be absolutely no ambiguity off-screen.
But no matter how carefree Yang Tao is in terms of feelings, she has her selfishness; she really couldn’t accept him doing such intimate scenes. So, they went from conflict to argument, to cold war, and finally... broke up again.
"Jiaojiao, I really can’t accept it, I can’t stand it," Yang Tao sighed.
Jiaojiao was silent.
In this matter, standing from Yang Tao’s perspective, she truly understood.
Because if she merely imagined Duan Xi being intimate with another girl someday, even just holding hands, she would probably also be unable to bear it.
And from Ruan Lei’s perspective, it seemed he wasn’t wrong either. To him, acting is just acting — a profession he is passionate about. Moreover, it’s essential to recognize that, with his current status and position, he has no grounds to be selective about roles.
Jiaojiao didn’t know what to say, so she just held Yang Tao’s hand, offering silent comfort.
Meanwhile, the boys had already ordered quite a bit of alcohol.
Once inside, Ruan Lei glanced at Yang Tao, noticing that she wouldn’t even look his way, only chatting with Jiaojiao. He turned and sat nearby, picked up a glass of beer in front of him, and downed it in one go.
