Lu Zishu glanced at him and mumbled, "What’s this, coming in so strong right off the bat? Showing off your drinking skills?"
Duan Xi glanced at Ruan Jiaojiao, then at the drinks on the table, got up and left the private room. When he returned, he carried a fruit platter and a box of milk, and walked straight toward Ruan Jiaojiao.
"Wow, after all these two years, our big brother Xi hasn’t changed." One of the guys saw this and immediately teased with a laugh.
"Exactly, how long has it been since he came in? So reluctant to let go? I heard you guys got engaged back in college, is that true?" Another guy chimed in boldly, egging on.
"Engaged, that means you need to treat us! You definitely have to treat us!"
"Absolutely, absolutely!"
In the face of their antics, a rare smile appeared on Duan Xi’s face as he placed the fruit platter in front of Ruan Jiaojiao, reminding her not to touch the alcohol. He inserted the milk straw and handed it to her before returning to the guys.
The guys saw him finally smiling, and they grew even bolder. Many raised their glasses to toast him, knowing that they dared not do this in the past.
Duan Xi spent three years in high school as the class leader, and his class was always the best-behaved in the school. Even the most mischievous boys dared not act out under his watch.
None of the guys ever dared to tease him; this was definitively the first time in history.
Naturally, they seized the opportunity.
Duan Xi didn’t refuse anyone, and suddenly, he seemed especially easygoing.
Ruan Jiaojiao watched from the other side, and seeing Duan Xi drinking cup after cup, furrowed her eyebrows into a little knot.
Finally unable to bear it, she pointed toward the guys’ side, leaned over to Yang Tao’s ear, and said, "Xiaotiao, I’m heading over for a bit."
"Go, go." Yang Tao waved dismissively.
"Brother Xi." Ruan Jiaojiao promptly walked over to where the guys were, sat down beside Duan Xi, pulled his hand, and urged, "Brother Xi, drink less."
Duan Xi turned and glanced at her, pinched her little hand, and smiled nonchalantly, "It’s nothing."
"What do you mean nothing? Did you forget how you complained about headaches last time after drinking?" Ruan Jiaojiao puffed out her cheeks, glaring at him. "Besides, why are they forcing you to drink for no reason?"
After saying this, she looked around at the boys who were still ready to toast and said sternly, "Drink by yourselves, why keep pushing him?"
"Ruan, you don’t understand. We’re toasting to congratulate you and the class leader on your engagement," said one cheeky guy, handing over his glass again. "Class leader, this one’s for your Ruan, wishing you a long life together, you must drink!"
Upon hearing this, Duan Xi indeed picked up the freshly filled glass in front of him, ready to drink.
But Ruan Jiaojiao reached out to stop him, and she scanned the guys with a glare, "So we have to drink for an engagement, huh? Then I’ll drink with you!"
Ruan Jiaojiao turned and walked over to Yang Tao. Under everyone’s surprised gaze, she picked up the bottle of milk Duan Xi had just opened for her, turned back to the guys, raised the milk carton, clinked it against several guys’ raised glasses, then gulped it all down. She looked up at them afterwards, "I finished, you do as you please!"
"..." The guys were speechless.
