Chapter 200: Get stronger
The disdain in the eyes of the residents was evident as we sauntered through the city. That didn’t reduce my swagger though. If anything, I walked even more flamboyantly to the chagrin of the group.
The architecture of this city was kind of mild compared to what I thought the Demon continent would be like. It was far from dark and gothic, hell the Darkfell empire and the Vorde continent as a whole looked gloomier than this city.
Not only that, I could feel that the subtle flow of aether was denser than that of the human domain. This was another reason why the other races wanted the demon continent.
The presence of the divine tree on the demon continent enhanced the flow of aether, and made aether denser than most other places in Nahaar, safe for specially crafted places.
Due to that, the chances of offsprings born with higher potential increased significantly by more than thirty percent compared to any of the other continents. Not only that, advancement on the path of ascension was also faster.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Demon race was the richest race in Nahaar. Because of the density of aether, the amount of aether stone mines in the demon continent bordered on the absurd. It easily outscales that of the other domains combined.
This was thus another reason why millions had died trying to take the divine tree for themselves. The humans were especially active in those wars, and the only reason why the demons were still alive today was because the other races were also enemies of each other.
Had the other races forgo their enmities and truly fought wo take the demon continent without restraint, the demons would have gone extinct today.
Fortunately for the demons, and unfortunately for Nahaar, before the other there races could do that, rifts began to appaer all over the world, and the Darkwalkers descended.
Anyway, apart from the pros the divine tree brought, there were also cons. Though it bought a qualitative evolution to the demon continent, the denser aether also significantly impacted the birth rate of the demon race. And thus, the demon race’s population was significantly lower than that of the human race.
While not the lowest in Nahaar because the Merfolk took that position, the demon race’s population was lower than even that of the Elven race not to mention the Human race who approximately had ten times the numbers of the demon race.
"Everyone, can you feel it?" I asked with a faint smirk noticing their amazed expressions.
"The aether here is very dense." Vera nodded energetically. "Unfortunately, channeling doesn’t require ambient aether."
Yeah, that was one unfortunate thing. Channeling is done with ones aether reserves. Manipulating ambient aether was only possible for Alpha rankers. They could fuel their techniques or abilities using the ambient aether rather than their own reserves.
They were completely independent of their reserves. I guess you could determine just how broken it was. Anyway, enough about Alpha rankers, I was still far off from there.
I turned to the others.
"Do you know why I brought you all to the demon continent?" I posed a question.
"Because you are crazy?" Vera asked bluntly.
"Because you want to steal something?" Pixie asked innocently.
"..." I was silent for a moment. This women, they think so little of me.
I scowled at vera. "I’m not crazy! And no, Pixie, I’m not here to steal anything! Why would you even assume that?"
"Because we went to steal something at the spire chain of mountains that time." She replied. She does make a point, but it was only one time. Just because I stole one time doesn’t make me a stealer.
Though was kind of right, but even though I was indeed here to take something, it most certainly wasn’t stealing.
I shook my head, "Just forget that ever happened."
"Why did you bring us here then?" Khloe who had now become slightly more accustomed to the disdainful gazes asked.
"I brought you all here because you all are extremely weak. You all need to get stronger, way stronger." My words would hurt them, but it was the truth, they were extremely weak. "Especially you, Khloe..." I continued. "You’re the weakest..."
"Hey! wait a minute Boss..." Khloe interrupted. "You just said everyone was extremely weak. What about you, isn’t Bran at the Zeta rank, and you at the Theta+ rank? Doesn’t that also make you extremely weak?"
"..." my eye twitched. Couldn’t she at least let me finish what I wanted to say before interrupting. Wait, how did she even get to know my actual rank? I panicked for a moment until I remembered I had removed my disguise earlier and that my aura had ran free. Still, I smiled a little.
"Well Khloe, I bet I could take on all of you at the same time, without breaking a sweat at that." I said. I was pretty sure I could. At the moment, the only ones that could give me trouble were Bob and Pixie. Both had extremely troublesome abilities.
Bob could disorient my senses, while Pixie could make me playful. Still, I was confident on beating them all together. Making around ten reflections five five percent of my aether each, was more than enough. Hell I didn’t even believe I’d need that much.
"That doesn’t sound very believable." Khloe argued.
"On the contrary," Bran spoke up. "The Boss actually can beat us all even though he is lower in rank than I am. You all can’t sense it, but I can sense just how powerful he is."
"I see." Khloe muttered with a tone that suggested she still didn’t believe it.
"Khloe, you are the weakest." I continued my earlier speech before I was interrupted. "You have to grow stro..."
"No no no, Boss.." Khloe interrupted me again. For the love of all things that live would this woman let me finish?
A startled look appeared on Khloe’s face. "You do know that I’m practically useless in combat or anything related to that right?"
"Yeah."
"Then why are you saying I have to get stronger?"
"Because it’s never too late to start. Also, you should abandon the mindset about being a non combatant and grow stronger."
Khloe was a genius. Maybe it was because of her low self-esteem or something like that, but Khloe was not fully aware of her brilliance.
The intention in bringing everyone on this trip wasn’t only to get stronger myself, but to get the whole squad stronger and also so that I could train Khloe to fit with the squad. Once she truly realized how brilliant he was, the power of our organization would drastically rise.
I thought about it a lot. The more stronger they were, the more useful they’d be to me. It wouldn’t do if I was getting stronger and the gulf between us was getting bigger.
Just as I was lost in thoughts, a demon suddenly ran towards our group. The young man didn’t stop until he stopped before us.
Sporting a wide grin, he exclaimed; "Hello young travelers. My name is Lal, the best tour guide you can find in this city." He extended a white card which I awkwardly received.
"Hotels, inns, fascinating landmarks, you name it. Anywhere you want to go, just say the word. I can promise you, you won’t regret hiring me." He said before winking at Vera. "Hello, beautiful."
"This kid is weird." Vera whispered to which I nodded. I could most certainly tell he was a scammer. But I decided to entertain him after I looked at the card that read; Lal, the most handsome tour guide in the city.
"Well then Mr Lal, I’m Amon!" I also grinned, before extending a handshake to the young demon. "I guess we’ll be in your care."
"What do you think you’re doing, he’s clearly trying to scam us." Vera whispered.
"You think I don’t know that?" I whispered back. The kind of pitying looks the demons around were giving us was enough to let me know that.
"Please, follow after me then." Lal gestured. "Where would you all like to go first?" He asked.
"Well for now, I think a hotel would be better suited to our needs, so take us to the best lodge in town." I replied.
"Best hotel?! are you trying to finish all our money today itself?! Khloe exclaimed in a whisper. Though, I paid her no need, I knew she was exaggerating.
I was entertaining the young demon mainly because one of the best way to scam a scammer is by entertaining and drawing them close. And I fully intended on scamming this scammer.
"After you." He gestured to the open doors of the carriage he had stopped earlier.
"Thank you." I nodded with a smile.
