Chapter 199: Humans and their quirks
The Divine Tree’s size was nearly incomprehensible. The closer we drew to the demon continent, the more the divine tree encompassed all that we could see.
When I had read about the divine tree in the novel, it was said that it stretched all the way into space, and it’s roots dug deep into the core of the planet. Not only that, the land the divine tree occupied was around one hundred and sixty thousand square kilometers in diameter.
And at the time when the grand tutor was also educating Rose and myself about it, I couldn’t understand the sheer scale that size encompassed, but now that I was seeing it with my own two eyes, I realized that it’s size was far beyond comprehension.
An hour after I first sighted the divine tree, the first sight of land in the demon continent appeared in distance. The land stretched for all my sight could see all through left and right. And it took us no longer than a amount to reach it.
The airship slowed it’s cruising speed as it reached the land.
"Whoa, I can’t believe that tree is this big." Pixie muttered in awe.
"Wait until you reach its base, the land it occupies is roughly the same as around one sixtieth of the Remea continent." I said, giving her a rough estimate of how truly gigantic it was.
The Demon continent was by far the largest continent in Nahaar, it was around four times the size of Remea, which was the smallest continent in the Human domain, and three times bigger than the Vorde continent, the largest continent in the human domain.
The human domain was mainly based in the southern hemisphere, with the Remea and Vorde continents having around a quarter of their landmasses in the northern hemisphere.
Coincidentally or not, the heart of oceana was said to be just on the equator. It meant that the underwater empire was equally both in the northern and southern hemisphere simultaneously.
The Demon continent meanwhile, was entirely in the northern hemisphere, eclipsing the eastern part of it and stretched thinly towards the western part where the Elven continent laid.
So while the divine tree was so massive, it was nothing compared to the demon continent itself.
All these was basic geography every noble or royal descendant should know, except for a few rare cases like a certain redhead.
Anyway the ship soon landed in the docks and we were ordered to step down. Yeah, you heard it right. The voice we heard literally said;
"All humans on this vessel, step down for a mandatory inspection! Resist... and face the consequences!"
I didn’t care about it because I already expected it somewhat... No, in fact, I largely expected it. But the others? "They can’t be serious." Vera muttered with a frown.
"You see, this was what I was talking about." Khloe fidgeted. "The demons are... Demons. We shouldn’t have come here in the first place."
"They must be joking right." Hugo muttered in disbelief. But boy were they dead serious, I knew that meant every word.
"Relax, it’s just a routine inspection. We are in another race’s domain. So we have to follow their rules." I said hoping to calm down the group, and to my credit, it worked somewhat.
"Alright, Let’s go." I clapped my hands and we exited our cabin to join the long queue of grumbling and frustrated humans going down the ship like a line of prisoners.
"Tsk, Just wait until I see any one of these demon bastards in the human domain." a young man clicked his tongue.
Not going to lie, it was a little frustrating being treated this way, but I understood that even demons would most likely be treated somewhat the same way if they visited the human domain. Though, for some reason, demons never seem to visit the human domain.
Anyway, we soon descended from the airship into the docks. Demons wearing armors were standing on either side as every human walked towards the area they were herding us like cattle.
"They look like they want to devour us alive." Bob whispered to me, before looking at an especially mean looking demon.
And to be honest, they did look like that, but the gazes they looked at us with were more closer to disgust, or rather disdain.
Yeah, did I forget to mention that demons disdain and detest humans? Well you’ve heard it now. Among the four races inhabiting Nahaar, all had their quirks and flaws.
The demons were extremely proud beings to the point of arrogance. They felt above every race. The Elves were extremely racist to the point they’d literally execute hybrids of their race. They believed they were the purest.
The merfolk on the other hand were extremely greedy. Avaricious to the point that they’d hoard treasures and resources for all their lives.
A for humans, God, don’t get me started on that one. A human was literally the worst and vilest creature you could find in this planet.
While all the other races have focal flaws, humans encompassed everything. Humans were the most prideful of them all, they somehow were even more prideful than the demons.
They were also the most racist of them all. Some humans actually believed that all the other races descended from them and thus looked down on all the other races as mutated beings, or ’lesser humans’ as they so aptly put it.
Ad last but not least, humans were the most greediest of them all. Human greed knew no bounds, it transcended the concept of greed itself, that was how greedy humans were.
And let’s not forget hypocrisy. Yes, humans were hypocritical to the core. Even though I was a human, I sometimes get secondhand embarrassment from their actions.
With all these quirks humans had, it was easy to see why the other races detested them. So do not be surprised if a demon, elf, or merfolk was being bad to you.
Anyway, after a full scanning to prove we weren’t heretics or cell somewhat working for them, they searched us thoroughly from head to toe which was pretty useless.
No matter how brazen they were, they couldn’t ask to search our spatial storages. Infact the inspection itself was just a way to demean us.
After that we were all free to go. I quickly led the group and we walked out of the docks. Even though the humans leaving the docks were around a hundred, we still stood out very much.
That was because everyone else around literally had a crown of horns on their head, while we had none.
Still even though we stood out, the demons only looked at us for a moment a before looking away. It was to be expected, they lived or worked close to the docks, so they see humans a lot.
I had to admit though, demons were catastrophically stunning. Even the female soldiers I saw back at the docks were extremely beautiful. Their beauty was that of the gothic and devilish kind.
Ahead of us was another group who were also walking out of the docks., and they seemed to be venting their frustrations due to what just happened.
"Just because we want to go see the divine tree doesn’t mean they get to treat us like that." A woman fumed.
"Yeah, I know right. It’s not like it belongs to them anyway. It belongs to all races on this planet. They just happen to be lucky it’s on their continent." Another agreed with her.
"Had it been in the human domain, they would know hell." Another chuckled sadistically.
Ahh, humans. They were just angry over the fact that they had been treated bad, but they were saying they would have done the same had they been the ones in the demons’ shoes.
Still, contrary to what they thought, the divine tree did kind of belong to the demon race since it was in their domain.
Unlike many fantasy myths where the demons were the main antagonists or the aggressors, it wasn’t the case in Nahaar.
Thousands of years before the Darkwalkers arrived, Humans, Elves, and the Merfolk had all waged war with the demon race in hopes of seizing the demon continent and therefore the Divine tree for themselves.
And humans in their greediness, were at the forefront of those wars. This was another reason while humans and demons don’t see eye to eye even today.
And that wasn’t all, when the elves and demons were in a war, the humans offered to help the Elves in exchange for sharing the divine tree when the war was won.
But the Elves fully knowing what humans were capable of, refused. You know what the humans did next? They waged war against the Elves.
It’s why the Elves hate humans today even with the alliance and all that.

Authors note: This is your beloved author here. So how do you like the geographical representations? Does it help you visualize better?
Also, don’t forget about what I asked in the previous Chapter: What should Damon’s second ability be? Any suggestions?
