Chapter 99: Nanny Lu
Daisy dismissed his words, ’’Angel...’’
’’Right there,’’ he said before she could finish speaking.
Daisy followed his gaze and her eyes landed on the laptop that was placed beside her.
On the display, she spotted Angel playing in the living room of Ryle’s mansion. An old lady stood right behind her while a few bodyguards remained standing at a distance, probably to not scare her. However, Angel seemed anything but scared.
Every once in a while when she got bored with the toys, she would approach the bodyguards with her tiny footsteps and mess around with them as if they were her bigger toys. And the bodyguards would sneakily look at the camera before eventually kneeling and responding to Angel. The transformation of those straight faced men to giant teddy bears looked rather funny to Daisy.
’’She is having fun, apparently,’’ Ryle was also looking at Angel but at some point, his gaze shifted to Daisy who was focused on the laptop. There was twinkle in her eyes and a smile playing on her lips that she herself seemed to be unaware of.
’’Yes, she seems to be enjoying it,’’ Daisy smiled, ’’You know I have noticed this, she really loves people around her. The more, the merrier seems to suit her just fine...’’
Daisy trailed off when she turned around and her gaze met with Ryle who was looking at her quietly, yet somehow with a strange gaze.
She touched her face, ’’Is there something on my face?"
’’Yes.’’
Daisy stroked her face, ’’What is it...’’
’’A smile that suits my taste and makes you more beautiful as if you already were any less.’’
His words made her feel flustered for some reason.
Daisy cleared her throat, ’’Who is that lady in the living room?" she promptly changed the topic.
’’That’s Nanny Lu. She used to work for my mother. After my mother passed away, she moved to her hometown.’’
Daisy’s eyes widened. She had asked the question because she recognized the bodyguards mostly but she was unfamiliar with the woman. However, she did not expect such an answer.
"Where is her hometown?"
"Ojai.’’
"You brought her to here from Ojai?"
Ryle nodded.
Daisy glanced at the laptop again, observing Angel being happy and bubbly. She then looked at Ryle. It seemed like she had something to say but in the end she could not frame her words for it.
"Can I use the laptop?" she asked him instead.
’’No,’’ Ryle turned her down within an instant, a stern edge to his voice.
Daisy frowned, ’’Why? If I can’t use your laptop, then you can get mine over here.’’
’’It’s not about your laptop or mine. You need rest. Proper rest,’’ Having trust issues with the woman, he proceeded to pick up the laptop and set it on the distant coffee table in an angle from where she could look at the screen.
"But I need to look into...’’
’’There were almost ten assassins at your place,’’ Ryle looked at her, ’’It is a question that how long they had been there for but it is long enough to make those elaborate traps for you. They installed the gas in your flat that was dispersing slowly in the air so that you won’t notice its presence until it got into your body. And everything was carefully arranged on their part.
You killed two of them and four more were killed by my people but four of them leave. A ray of light for us, isn’t it?" Ryle asked as he proceeded to take off his jacket and rolled his sleeves till his veins were visible.
Daisy who was focused on his words, got distracted momentarily when she saw his movements, ’’Yes, it’s good that some of them are alive. They can be interrogated.’’
’’Interrogation is too easy. You can say tormented,’’ Ryle looked at her and smiled widely, ’’Because that’s what they are going to be.’’
Somehow the more gentle and cheerful his smile was, Daisy knew that the more backwards his intentions were.
But she had no care whatsoever. If not for Ryle’s timely arrival, then even if she managed to get out of there with Angel, she would not have gotten out unscathed.
She fell into contemplation, ’’Did Angel’s condition relapse?" she looked at the man questioningly.
Ryle met her gaze, ’’I got the doctors over for the both of you once we arrived here. She had inhaled a little bit of the gas but it was not that much. You left her to me in time so it was cleared out of her body once she got exposed to the clean air. As for you...’’
’’I am fine,’’ Daisy shrugged a shoulder when he mentioned her.
’’You can be finer if you rest a bit more,’’ Ryle rolled his eyes, ’’You sustained some external injuries.’’
’’Just a scratch,’’ Daisy proceeded to remove the blanket.
’’I am going downstairs for a moment and I expect you to be sitting there when I come back,’’ Ryle said calmly.
Daisy paused, ’’I don’t know what makes you think I will obey you.’’
’’The fact that if you don’t then you will be punished.’’
"I am not a child who you can punish,’’ she gave the man a ridiculous look.
Ryle stepped towards the bed and stood by her side. His index finger slid to rest below her chin as he lifted her face gently, ’’I don’t know where you got the misconception from. I am not going to punish you like a child,’’ he bent his body such that his face hovered near her neck and his lips were right beside her ear, ’’On the contrary, I’ll punish you in a way I know you will enjoy,’’ his warm breath tickled her neck and it felt like his lips were a moment away from grazing past her earlobes.
Instinctively, Daisy raised her hand to place them on his chest. But before she could touch him, the man pulled back and grinned, ’’So if I see you out of the bed, I will assume that you want me to do things to you,’’ his gaze slowly scanned her from head to toe before he met her gaze and whispered, ’’Bad bad things,’’ he whispered.
