Chapter 98: Take care of her

Without wasting another second, Daisy hugged Angel and dashed towards the door but before she could reach the door, she felt the touch of a cold metal on the back of her head.

And following that, there were sounds of approaching footsteps. There was not one, nor two but at least more than five people in the house.

’’Surrender,’’ the person who had pressed the gun on her head spoke up.

Daisy did not say anything, except for subtly pressing Angel’s head into her chest to prevent her from inhaling the fog for as long as she could but she knew it was not working. Angel was getting restless in her arms.

’’Grab the child and throw her aside,’’ the man commanded his people.

Daisy’s eyes turned bloodshot and her fingers clenched into a fist.

Was this going to be her end?

She did not know.

All she knew was that before anybody could lay a finger on Angel, they would die or she would lose her life.

With that determination in her mind, she raised her head.

’Click’

Just as two men came to snatch Angel from Daisy, the door to her place opened.

’Bang Bang’

Two bodies fell to the ground.

’Bang’

The person who had pressed a gun to her head staggered back, clutching his shoulder where a bullet was lodged.

Daisy moved in the blink of an eye and rushed to the man who was standing at the door, ’’Take care of her,’’ she pushed Angel into Ryle’s arms just in time as someone grabbed her hair from behind and yanked her backwards.

’’Daisy!" Ryle rushed to enter inside but Daisy shook her head, her gaze on Angel.

Just before the door closed, Ryle threw his gun at Daisy through the gap. Daisy grabbed the gun with one hand and elbowed the man who had gripped her hair.

"Bitch!" he gripped her hair harder and smashed her head into the wall ruthless.

The fog in the place was already taking effect on her and there was a dizziness that she was unable to shake off.

From the strength of the man who was manhandling her, Daisy knew that the people she had faced earlier were not most powerful of them. They were just sent to test her capabilities but the ones that were hiding and observing everything from the shadows were experts.

This man was smart enough to not close the distance between them so that she could not play any tricks on him from close combat and he held her hair in a death grip in a manner that rendered her immobile and in a way unable to check his position.

If she shot him and missed it, then the gun in her hand would be gone.

’’What? Got no moves anymore?" the man mocked when the woman started staggering. He pulled her hair harder, arching her head only to see her eyes closing.

Satisfied, he turned to the other men, ’’Brothers, the target is secured. Let’s leave before we encounter other troubles... Ahhhh!" 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

’Bang’

An animalistic scream reverberated in the living room as the moment the man’s attention was diverted, Daisy tilted her head to the side, marked his position and twisted her wrist such that the bullet went straight past his throat.

A pool of blood exploded from the man’s head, splattering over Daisy as she turned around and kicked his chest, pushing him away from her.

As the rest of the men surrounded her, the door to her place aimed opened with a ’Bam’.

Daisy leaned back on the wall to support her body as she tilted her head to the side. A swarm of men rushed in through the door, tackling the assassins in her place but her gaze remained fixated on the man who was standing at a distance behind the swarm of people, his brows were taut in worry and his eyes looked at her with a hint of helplessness. As if he would have swarmed right inside had he not been holding Angel in his arms.

Daisy tried to give him an assuring smile but her consciousness seemed to be slipping. With the adrenaline wearing down, the effects of the smoke in the room took over and her vision turned dark.

"Daisy!" she heard a familiar distant voice before she slipped into a deep slumber.

...

’Rustle’

Daisy could hear the sound of pages being flipped next to her ear and there a lingering throbbing pain in her head. As she opened her eyes, the bright lights seemed to be piercing through her vision.

She covered her eyes with the back of her neck.

"You are awake.’’

Daisy blinked for a few times before she removed her hand from her eyes and turned to look at her side.

Ryle was sitting on a throne chair right next to the bed with a book in his hand. And he was wearing glasses with his hair falling everywhere in a mess. The man placed the book on the table before he removed his glasses and put them aside.

When she tried to sit, he immediately inched forward to support the back of her head.

’Hiss’

Daisy winced as it felt like her scalp had been torn apart.

Ryle shifted his palm gently towards her back to adjust her position, his eyes darkening. The man who yanked her hair was pretty lucky that he was killed by her and got himself a swift death. Had he survived that moment to land in his hands, then he would have regretted the day he was born.

The thoughts in his head were however not reflected on his face. Ryle picked up a glass of water and brought it closer to her mouth. Once Daisy took a few sips, he placed the glass back on the bedside table.

’’Barely been a month and you reduced yourself to this condition. Pretty delicate you are, aren’t you, princess?" the man said in a teasing voice.
