Chapter 63: Beg

Arianna stepped into the Henderson company, drawing everyone’s attention.

Today was her first day on the job as Logan’s CFO, and she couldn’t wait to start.

Not that she was excited about her job, but because she was still on a mission to find the documents.

A few employees whispered.

"Is she really going to work for the boss? I thought he cheated and divorced her?"

"I heard she’s an orphan. She probably swallowed her ego and pleaded with him to give her a job just so she would be able to fend for herself."

"Hold on! But she’s married to Daemon Langford, and that man is ten times wealthier than Logan. So...why would she be working for the boss?"

Arianna heard every one of their each stretching on her lips.

All she needed were those papers. Only that.

Taking the elevator, Arianna went to the top floor and right into Logan’s office.

Logan gave her a once-over, his gaze moving from her neck to her chest. Then he revealed a smirk that made it obvious what he was thinking about.

"Do you have something you want to tell me?" Arianna asked, breaking his focus.

Logan quickly snapped back to reality.

He opened the drawers and retrieved a document.

"This contains the investors we’ve lost and a few I want us to partner with."

Arianna took the document and quickly skimmed through it.

Right when she was about to close the file, her eyes caught on something. More like someone.

"Daemon Langford."

"That’s right," Logan nodded proudly. "I’ve never liked that man," he said with so much disgust. "I’ve tried a couple of times to make him partner with us, but he never agrees. So, since you’re his wife now, I believe that should be possible."

Arianna’s lips tightened as she resisted the urge to laugh in his face.

She was aware of the fact that he’d tried to partner with Daemon although he despised him. Now, he wants to use her to get him to.

Arianna closed the files and dropped them on the table.

"I’m afraid, but I can’t make Daemon partner with this company."

"And why’s that?" Logan demanded.

"You cheated on me and tried to kill me. Daemon knows all of that. Do you really think he’ll partner with the same man that tried to unalive his wife?"

Logan’s mouth instantly clamped shut from lack of not being able to think of a word to say.

"I can try to get new investors and the former ones back, but Daemon? Forget about it. It’s not going to work."

Logan gave it a thought.

Having Daemon as his business partner was going to elevate his reputation. Since Daemon came from a prestigious family, and they owned several companies across Europe, having only him as a partner would be more than enough.

He could have tried to get him as he’d tried with other people, but his ego wouldn’t let him.

"I want you to try at least, see what he says before you give up."

Arianna scoffed but bit down on her tongue to keep herself from saying anything vile.

Logan checked his wristwatch. "I have a meeting in two minutes. I’ll be back soon, and I want you to study the people in those papers and do everything possible to get them to partner with my company."

Arianna gave a curt nod.

Logan stood up from his seat, adjusted his suit before he marched right out of the office.

Arianna released a soft chuckle.

She had no idea where he’d gotten the new pride from, but it would certainly be good to toy with it later.

She opened the files again and took a closer look at them.

Most of the people on there involved the former investors who’d left after they found out what Logan had done to her.

Arianna took a breath before she took her phone call and made the calls.

She called every one of theeachto them that he’d resumed working with Logan and would like for them to return.

At first, half of them were shocked. They thought that she was harming herself by working for the same man who’d cheated on her.

She promised he wasn’t.

After a little more convincing, they agreed to return.

Arianna wasn’t shocked at how easy it was; after all, she’d been the one to bring them.

After that, she diverted to the international investors that Logan had included.

Her gaze fell on Daemon’s name for the shortest second, and a laugh escaped her lips.

"It’s the audacity he had to include him," she mumbled to herself.

Thanks to the language barrier, she could only speak to the secretaries of the CEO’s.

She requested to arrange a meeting so that information could be further discussed.

Once she hit the red button, Arianna slumped on the couch.

Without realizing it, she’d moved from the seat to the couch, and now, her legs were straightened out, tempting her to take a nap.

Arianna checked the time on her phone. "Logan has been gone for twenty minutes. I still have a few minutes to search here, but he can come in at any time."

Arianna bit her lips, contemplating.

"I can always make something up." Her mind went back to Clara who’d caught her in her parents’ closet last night. She could only hope she hadn’t told anyone and would never tell anyone what she’d seen.

Jumping to her feet, Arianna started on her mission.

She went to the drawers and pulled everything out.

Unlike the closet, she made sure to keep everything intact.

She was the only one in his office, and if she made a mess, Logan would immediately know it was her and then question her.

After searching everything, Arianna still couldn’t find it.

"Where is it?" She almost yelled, pulling her hair out of frustration.

She went to the shelves that were home to hundreds of files and kept searching, but all her efforts were futile.

When she was done, beads of sweat had formed on her face.

Now, Arianna was certain he’d burned those papers since she couldn’t find them in his home or the office.

There was nowhere else to look.

She pulled on her hair, ready to yank it out of frustration when she heard footsteps approaching.

Quickly, she fixed herself and returned to the couch, pretending to be doing something.

The door opened while Logan yelled out an order. "Get me everything you can on that man! I’m giving you two days." Then he slammed the door shut.

Whoever he was yelling about must have left him feeling uneasy because, just like her, he was sweating as well.

As soon as his gaze landed on her, the corners of his lips stretched.

"I’ve already contacted the former investors. Each will be returning. As for the international ones, I’ve arranged a meeting next month. They will be arriving in Las Vegas next month."

She handed the files back to him, but he didn’t take them.

She arched an eyebrow in confusion.

"What’s wrong?" She asked.

Logan responded after a beat. "I knew I could always count on you. Just one call, and you have everything fixed. That’s why I love you so much, Arianna."

Arianna resisted the urge to roll her eyes back harder than she’d ever done so before.

Her stomach churned in both disgust and the level of temerity he had to say such things to her.

However, she figured it was her fault since she’d agreed to come back and work for him.

Logan took a step back, closing the distance.

Although Arianna wanted to move, she didn’t. She held on to her stance and stared at him dead in the eye.

"I’ve always known that you love me too, and would do anything to keep the company we both grew together running."

Then his hand reached out, touching her forearm.

Goosebumps coursed all over her skin.

"You even had to marry Daemon Langford to get my attention and make me jealous. You didn’t have to do all of that, Arianna. You could have just come back to me, and we would have everything settled."

She watched his arm go to her waist. She immediately lost him.

She pushed him hard against the chest. The impact was so strong that he stumbled against his desk.

His eyebrows were furrowed as he stared at her in shock.

"You never cease to amaze me, Logan," she said, cracking her knuckles. "You are really so full of yourself that you think you’re all that." Then she paused, her index finger pushing against her chin. "Or was I so stupid back then? So stupid that you think I’ll come back to you after everything you’ve done to me?"

"You’ve always been stupid. I fooled you for years, and you never knew. I cheated right in front of your face, and you were blind to it." He adjusted his tie as he continued. "So quit acting like you’re out for revenge and beg."
