Chapter 64: A Mistake
"You’ve always been stupid. I fooled you for years, and you never knew. I cheated right in front of your face, and you were blind to it." He adjusted his tie as he continued. "So quit acting like you’re out for revenge and beg."
Arianna was stunned. Too stunned to speak.
She stared at Logan as if he’d lost his mind.
Her jaw clenched, trying really hard to resist the urge to smack him on the face.
The only reason she was here in the first place was to get the documents, but since she couldn’t, she was tempted to kick him in the balls, chop off his dick, and feed it to the dogs.
Not that she didn’t plan to, but it might just be too early for that.
Sucking in a mouthful of air, Arianna clenched and unclenched her fist, glared hard at him as she parted her lips to speak.
"Keep dreaming, Logan. Just keep on dreaming. One of us will be beginning soon, and it certainly won’t be me." Then she took a step closer to him, so close that he felt threatened to move back. "You just wait, Logan. You might think that I’ve forgotten everything that you’ve done to me, but I’ll surely make you regret betraying me and toying with my trust. Both you and Vivian. So, quit living the false truth that I’m doing this for the love I once had for you because as it is right now, if I had a gun, I would shoot you right in the head without hesitation!"
Arianna smirked when she saw Logan’s face go pale.
He looked like he’d been completely drained of color, and something in her moved in satisfaction.
Without saying another word, she picked up her bag, gave him a quick once-over, and stepped out.
Logan quickly fixed his tie to mask the embarrassment he felt even when there was no one to witness it.
Outside, Arianna tried to control her rage.
The last time Logan had pissed her off, she’d called Josephine for a round in the ring. Since she wasn’t around anymore...
"Did something bad happen inside? Did he touch you?" Mikael asked with concern in his tone. He reached out to touch her, but she quickly evaded his touch.
"He didn’t," she answered, looking away.
Mikael tried to say something else, but Arianna cut him off.
"Have you contacted my father? How’s everything going over there?" She asked, walking towards the car.
"Crisanto has captured the families of some of your father’s soldiers, threatening to kill them if they don’t change sides and work with him instead."
"What?" Arianna gasped, halting to her feet. "And how has that been going on so far? Did they give in?"
Mikael took a second to respond. "A few have gone missing. I assume they’ve gone to work with Crisanto. As for the rest, the boss is still trying to pacify their worry. He already has a few men who have started their search for the soldiers’ families."
Arianna sighed. The situation wasn’t good at all.
Not only were they having a problem with weapons, but now, they were losing numbers of soldiers who could fight for them.
The first problem had already been resolved by Daemon. But now...
Arianna bit down on her lips, thinking hard.
Daemon had offered to deploy some of his soldiers to help out her father, but she’d refused. She wasn’t sure if the offer was still open. However, even if it was, would she let him do that?
Her father didn’t want her participating in the war, which left her completely useless.
The least she could do right now was help deploy more soldiers for them.
Stepping into the car, she sent a text to Daemon, asking if he was home.
As if he’d been stalking her DM, he quickly sent a reply.
Turning to Mikael, she ordered, "Take me to Daemon’s house."
The latter turned his neck so fast that the bone probably snapped.
"Why?" He questioned in a growl.
Arianna gave him a pointed look, reminding him of his position.
Reluctantly, he started the car and followed the direction of the GPS.
They arrived at Daemon’s mansion with him standing outside.
Due to the heavily tinted windows, he didn’t see Mikael. So, when Mikael pulled over and rolled down the windows, Daemon’s face immediately went sour.
"We meet again," Mikael sang as he stepped out of the car, stretching his hand out for a handshake.
Daemon stared at the hand, then back at the man before he tore his gaze and fixed it on Arianna.
Ignoring Mikael, Daemon walked towards Arianna, helped her out of the car, and escorted her to the house.
Mikael bit the inside of his cheeks, trying to swallow the embarrassment he’d just faced.
Arianna sighed when she saw the whole thing, but it wasn’t her problem, so she ignored it as well.
As soon as they reached the living room, she started.
"I need your help," she said to Daemon. "I need you to deploy some of your soldiers for my father."
"Consider it done," he responded.
Arianna choked on the rest of her words before they could even come out of her mouth.
He agreed, just like that, as if he was waiting for her to come to him with that kind of request.
"You don’t even know why I need you to deploy the soldiers."
"Let me guess." Daemon coughed, clearing his throat. "Crisanto managed to get your father’s soldiers to betray him. Now they work for Crisanto, and you want to help your father by bringing in more men for him to fight alongside him."
Arianna’s jaw dropped for a moment, but she immediately picked it back up.
"I’ll fly to New York to discuss things further with Cassian and your father. You can come along if you want."
"I’ll come," she answered immediately.
Then she released a sigh of relief. To think she was worrying if Daemon was still going to help her out when he just agreed instantly without even giving it a thought.
"I suggest Arianna stays here in Las Vegas," Mikael interjected, making their heads turn to look at him. "Her father asked me to come here and keep her safe. New York isn’t exactly safe for her."
"And who asked for your input?" Daemon questioned in a low tone that sent chills running down Mikael’s spine. But he immediately shook it off because the thought of being scared of Daemon left his ego bruised.
"I’m here as per her father’s order to keep her safe. Crisanto is willing to use anyone to make my boss surrender, and Arianna is an easy target. She should stay here. It’s safer here." Mikael stared at Arianna, waiting for her to add something, to make him seem reasonable.
"I’ve been a part of the mafia world since I was a literal baby, Mikael. My father is worried; I understand that, but I’m not going to sit still while they fight to death."
Mikael’s jaw clenched and hardened when Daemon gave him a smile filled with mockery.
"I’ll be going to New York with Daemon, and that’s final," she finished.
Mikael wanted to say something else, but he thought against it.
Arianna wasn’t listening to him like she did when she was younger, and that only made him realize she had grown to have a mind of her own. If only they hadn’t broken up, he would have become the Don of La Cosa Nostra already.
His jaw ticked as he tried hard to mask his anger and jealousy.
"I want to use the restroom. Where is it?" She asked Daemon.
"Upstairs. The second door to the right."
Arianna frowned slightly.
’Isn’t that the way to his bedroom?’ She wondered but shrugged it off because she could be wrong.
She’d only been to his house once and could be mistaken.
She turned to leave, and as soon as Arianna was out of sight, Mikael got in Daemon’s face.
"Look, I don’t know what kind of spell you have on her, but you have to keep her here. New York isn’t safe for her," he said through gritted teeth.
Daemon gave him a lazy look, taking in the audacity he had to step right into his personal space in a threatening stance. But he didn’t look. Since he was taller than Mikael, he stared down at him.
"I don’t know what kind of past you two had, but whatever it is, I don’t like you underestimating my woman like that or speaking over me ever again. You’re just a bodyguard, so act like one." Then Daemon took a step, completely closing the distance between them as his eyes darkened. "Or do I need to teach you how to do that?"
Mikael was enraged now. His fingers balled into fists.
Daemon’s gaze fell on them. "I suggest you think well before making that decision." There was a smile on his face, the kind that angered Mikael even more.
Mikael aimed for Daemon’s face, about to punch his nose, but the latter countered the attack immediately.
With a swift movement, he dodged the punch and landed one of his own squarely on Mikael’s nose. Blood began to flow immediately.
