Chapter 61: Dance With Me
Reaching downstairs, Arianna tried to keep herself as composed as possible, but her mind was already running at a hundred miles per hour, wondering where Logan could have kept the property papers.
If it wasn’t in the safe, the most secure place she knew in the house, where else could it be?
She considered sneaking into his study, but she knew that was the least safe area in the house, where he kept important documents, so going there would be a total waste of time.
Her fists were clenched hard by her sides as she tried to think hard. The document had to be somewhere close.
’Or did he burn them just so that I can’t get my hands on them?’ She wondered.
That was possible.
Considering how wicked and ill-minded Logan was, it wouldn’t take him two seconds to burn the papers to get rid of ways for her to get everything back.
However, if that was the case, there was still another way for her to get them back, and that would be filing another set of proper papers and sneaking them under his other piles of documents to sign, making her the sole owner of everything again. This time, she would take the things that he owned as well.
Arianna rubbed her temple in frustration as she tried to calm herself down.
She glanced around and found the guests chatting and complimenting each other, a routine they followed at every kind of event.
Arianna was still deep in thought when she felt a shadow looming over her.
She looked up to find Mikael staring at her with a raised eyebrow.
"I saw you walking into a particular room. What exactly were you searching for there?" He questioned.
The tone of his voice only made her feel even more agitated.
"I told you to stay here," she gritted out.
"I’m your bodyguard. I’m meant to stay close and protect you, especially when you’re in the house of the man who tried to kill you once."
Arianna resisted the urge to hit him across the face. He made sense with his words, but they weren’t going to solve her problem at that moment.
"Next time, listen to my orders. If I want you to stay put, you stay put, do you understand me?"
Mikael gave her a look that made her realize he wasn’t going to listen to her at all.
If care wasn’t taken, his presence was only going to put her plans in jeopardy.
She decided to ignore him and walk away, but he wrapped his arms around her wrists, pulling her back.
"The guests are dancing. Don’t you want to join?" He asked.
Arianna glanced around to find everyone pairing up for a dance, and then back at Mikael, who was holding a mischievous grin on his lips.
Before she could respond, his arm had already left her wrist to wrap itself around her waist, keeping her still.
He looked into her darkened blue eyes, knowing fully well all she wanted to do was to kick him in the balls.
That thought was inevitable, but he would brace himself for the pain later. Right now, he wanted to dance with her.
As he was about to pull her closer, he heard a stern voice behind him.
"Let go of my wife."
Arianna tore her gaze to fix them on Daemon, who towered over both of them.
His dark aura emanated from him like perfume, making her throat go dry while beads of sweat appeared on her face.
She suddenly felt as if she’d just been caught cheating.
Mikael turned to find Daemon shooting daggers at him with his gaze.
"But we were just about to dance," Mikael insisted, a smug tugging at the corners of his lips. "I’m sure you wouldn’t want to interrupt two people dancing."
Daemon’s jaws ticked as his teeth gnashed together in rage.
The way the stranger was holding Arianna made his blood boil in a way that made him want to snap his neck and throw his body in the lion’s den.
Whoever he was, he certainly wasn’t good news.
That was for sure.
Daemon’s gaze landed on Arianna, and immediately, she took a step back from Mikael, making the latter give her a questioning look.
"I see that you’re the controlling type," Mikael murmured just loud enough for Daemon to hear. "But don’t you think that’s too much, because your marriage...isn’t even real."
Daemon’s fingers balled into a fist, clenching so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
"Control yourself." He heard Frederick’s voice. "Not in front of these people."
"Oh," Mikael gasped dramatically. "Are you about to hit me?"
"That’s enough," Arianna quickly interjected, stepping in between the two men.
The night was already a huge disappointment for her since she couldn’t find the papers she’d come for. The last thing she needed was two grown men who couldn’t control their emotions throwing punches around.
"You should excuse us," Arianna said, looking at Mikael.
A frown quickly grew on his face; he was surprised that she was willing to stay by Daemon’s side.
He parted his lips to say something, but Arianna pinned him with a glare.
He shut his mouth immediately.
He was on a mission, a mission to make her fall in love with him again, and hopefully, he would achieve his bigger goals.
All he needed to do was listen to her even when it might seem difficult.
Hesitantly, he spun on his heels and stepped away, mingling into the crowd and disappearing.
Arianna heaved a sigh of relief when she saw him leave. But that relief was short-lived when she felt a glare piercing into her back.
"Who’s he?" Daemon questioned.
Frederick sensed the tension and quickly waddled out of there.
"He’s my bodyguard, Mikael," she responded. Initially, she’d wanted to keep Mikael a secret from him, but she’d realized there was no reason to.
Mikael was simply an ex and would remain an ex. And most importantly, there was no reason for her to hide her past relationships from Daemon like they mattered, because they didn’t.
"My father sent him to replace Josephine since she’d returned to New York to help out."
Frederick’s ears perked up at Josephine’s name being mentioned.
His shoulders relaxed.
’That woman devil is gone. Thank God,’ he prayed silently.
"So he’ll be staying here for how long?" He demanded.
"For until Josephine returns," she answered impatiently. She didn’t expect to see Daemon at this party since it was being hosted by Logan.
The only ones she’d seen him attend had been hosted by the Griffins, which only spiked her curiosity.
"How did you find me here?" She asked. "Did you trace my phone again?"
After being kidnapped by Levi, she’d lost her phone. She knew Daemon had her traced, so she’d gotten a new one, but she didn’t think he would have her new phone traced as well.
"I’m only taking safety precautions," he quickly defended, the anger in his eyes slowly dissipating.
Arianna wanted to warn him to stop doing that, but she quickly stopped herself.
Daemon had never hurt her once; instead, all he did was save her from life-threatening situations.
Those situations were more than enough for her to trust that he would rescue her at the right time, whenever at all.
"But I don’t trust Mikael. He’s up to no good. He’s staring at you like you’re some golden ticket to hitting a jackpot."
Arianna shook her head, unable to believe her ears.
"He’s just a bodyguard," she reassured.
However, she couldn’t believe the words she said.
Mikael might just be a bodyguard, but she couldn’t ignore the way her body became extra alert whenever he was closer to her, as if he were an impending danger she needed to run away from.
Either way, she was going to stay as far away from him as possible.
"I’ve been texting you for the past week. Why haven’t you been responding to my texts?" He questioned.
Arianna’s lips thinned into a straight line.
"Why would I respond to them?" She asked, looking genuinely curious. "You text like a man being held at gunpoint. You’re sending ’come over ’, ’where have you been?’ ’What a nice weather we have today!’ Tell me, Daemon, what was I supposed to say, especially to the last one?"
Daemon’s cheeks flushed red.
Instead of asking Frederick for help, he’d decided to do everything himself, thinking it would give him a good result.
Obviously, he didn’t. Now, he had to think of better ways to text her.
The next second, he did the thing his mind managed to come up with.
He wrapped his arm around her waist, holding her firmly as he pulled her into his chest.
Arianna felt her heart skip a beat as he leaned closer to her ear and whispered. "Dance with me, my love."
Somewhere, Vivian was watching the whole interaction with a face filled with envy.
Her teeth gnashed as she tried to contain her anger.
All she wanted to do was stride there and kick Arianna out of her house. She took a step but halted when her phone vibrated with a call.
"Have you arrived? I’m coming." Then she hung up on the call.
