Chapter 59: What Position?
"You love me," he deadpanned.
Pain shot through Arianna’s chin down to her body, but she felt numb to it because the only thing she felt was rage.
Dating Mikael was definitely a mistake because he thinks he can talk to her however he wants and would get away with it easily.
She flung his hand away and pinned him with a glare.
"Are you forgetting who I am or must I remind you?" She demanded.
Something in Mikael’s expression cracked, as if realizing his mistake.
If she said anything to her father, then it was completely over for him. He’d dated her when she was only seventeen, a minor, while he was twenty seventeen.
If her father, or any of her siblings got to know that information, his days on earth were certainly numbered.
He’d witnessed the Wesley members torture their enemies for anything at all. Most of their hostages didn’t last before they died from the open wounds they’d caused on them.
Being in that position sent a shiver running down Mikael’s spines.
"Just because we fucked a few times, it doesn’t mean you get to dictate to me who I should or shouldn’t marry. Do you understand me, Mikael?" She demanded.
Mikael couldn’t say a word anymore.
His lips parted and closed, but no words could come out of his lips.
He didn’t want to accept the fact that she’d moved on from him. That was impossible.
She was so young and naive years ago, and he hoped that naive little girl was still there so he could use and manipulate her however he wanted.
The reason Mikael had gotten together with her was so because he could use her to dethrone her father from the seat he currently owned.
Despite fighting alongside the old man in several battles, it didn’t take much for envy to grow.
Just like everyone else, he’d wanted the power that Wesley owned all to himself. And it was a goal he wasn’t willing to give up on yet.
"Listen," he said, taking a closer step towards her. "Daemon is not a good man. His father is out to get yours."
"I think I’ve heard of that quip for the longest time already, Mikael. If there’s nothing let for you to say, I suggest you leave my room immediately."
Mikael sighed.
He wanted to convince her to divorce Daemon and come back to him. After her father had mentioned to him that Arianna was married, he’d walked right back into his room and destroyed every single piece of furniture there.
He wasn’t going to give up. No matter what.
Mikael turned on his heels and walked toward the open door. Before he completely walked out, he turned to look at her, gave her a look—one filled with determination before he walked right out the door.
Without wasting a single second, Arianna slammed the door after him and rested her head on the frame.
Mikael being her bodyguard isn’t going to be good news at all. She needed to contact her father and try to convince him she didn’t need one following her about like a moth around a light bulb.
The next day, Arianna got dressed up and ready to leave the house for the party.
Reaching downstairs, Arianna found Mikael hovering around the living room waiting for her.
Her lips thinned.
After their altercation last night, she’d immediately contacted her father to have Mikael replaced by another one of their soldiers if she must have a bodyguard.
However, her father didn’t oblige to her demands and instead tried to convince her that Mikael was the best soldier to have around her since she would be alone in Las Vegas where there were so many enemies hovering around.
Arianna blamed Daemon for her predicament. If she hadn’t gotten kidnapped by his nemesis, then Mikael wouldn’t be here to begin with.
Arianna tore her gaze from Mikael to Josephine who was all packed up and ready to return to New York.
Arianna quickly enveloped her sister into a warm hug.
"I’ll miss you. Come back immediately."
"I’ll try to. For the meantime, don’t be too harsh on Mikael. He also missed you like the rest of us."
Arianna gave a stiff nod in response, not bearing to spare Mikael a single glance even though he stared at her intently, as if he was determined to make her notice him.
Arianna escorted Josephine out of the house, watched her get into the car and drive off, heading to the airport.
Silence reigned for a moment. She was stuck with Mikael, and she could only hope he wouldn’t repeat the same thing he’d done last night.
He was a trained soldier, but he hoped she was skilled enough to take him down if he tried anything funny.
Without saying a word, Arianna walked towards her car while Mikael followed.
"Where are we going?" He questioned.
"To Logan’s mansion." Her reply was curt and short, showing she didn’t want to explain any further but Mikael didn’t take the hint at all. Or maybe he noticed it, but ignored it.
He’d heard what Logan had done to her. He was her ex husband, one of the men in his lists for hurting her badly. Going to his mansion certainly raised questions that needed to be answered.
"Why?" Mikael asked with distaste in his tongue.
Arianna ignored him and entered the car. He quickly got to the driver’s seat and drove off.
Whatever her reason was for going over there, he was going to find out once they arrived.
Reaching the mansion, Arianna stepped out of her car with Mikael following behind her like a fly.
The party was held to welcome her back into the company, so when the guests saw her, they were immediately surprised, probably because they didn’t believe that she would return to work for the same man who’d betrayed her.
"Arianna," one of the guests called. "I had no idea you would come here. Is it true?" Mrs. Cooper asked.
She used to be one of the investors in Logan’s company before she pulled out.
"What is true?" Arianna asked, feigning innocence.
"That you’re returning to Henderson Corporation?" She responded, her eyes slightly narrowed. "Is he forcing you to do this?" She questioned, her voice dripping with concern.
Arianna quickly shook her head. "I’m returning out of my own free will."
Mikael shifted uncomfortably behind her, unable to believe her words.
She was going to return to work for the same man that had just tried to kill her months ago and stolen everything from her.
Mrs. Cooper didn’t look convinced at all, but since Arianna didn’t say anything, she decided to mind her business.
Once she was gone, Mikael leaned over to her and whispered, "You’re going to work for Logan again? Does your father know about this?"
Arianna turned to him, feeling agitated. "He doesn’t know and I don’t need you telling him about it. Your only job here is to be my bodyguard, so keep quiet and act like one."
Mikael wanted to say more but quickly stopped himself.
Arianna focused on the streams of guests flowing into the massive living room.
This was the same house that she’d lived several years with Logan, and now, she was visiting as a guest.
Arianna waited for that ache to arrive, that hurt that always shattered her heart into ten pieces whenever she reminisced about her time with Logan.
It didn’t come.
If anything, she felt more rage coursing through her veins at the thought that she’d lived so long with such a man.
Then he came.
Logan strode towards Arianna, wearing one of his finest suits with his hair styled back while a few locks fell on his forehead.
Beside him was Vivian, who gave her the ugliest look without even bothering to hide it.
"It’s a good thing you made it," Logan cheered, his grin stretching around the corners of his lips while his eyes narrowed slightly at her, as if winning a contest she knew nothing about.
"What position are you giving me at the company?" Arianna asked, going straight to the point.
He needed her to get the investors back.
While her previous position was CFO in the past, she doubted he would give her the same position.
Logan’s grin widened, not shocked that she’d gone straight to the point. That was one of the reasons he adored her. She didn’t waste any one’s time, not even hers.
"Your previous position," he responded.
Vivian snapped her head to look at her husband with eyes widened as if he’d gone mad.
"What?" She forced out of lips. "I thought you were going to make her your assistant or secretary. Why CFO?"
Now it was Logan who stared at his wife as if she’d totally lost it but Vivian didn’t back down.
It took a lot to accept that Arianna was still going to hover around the company and her husband, and now, he was giving her such an important position.
"That’s because she’s the best at it. Arianna is good at everything."
