Chapter 57: Message
Daemon walked through the armed men who bowed when they saw him coming through.
When he passed them, they immediately turned their heads to look at him one last time before he disappeared.
Seeing their boss come into the meeting wasn’t a crazy thing. It was the fact that he was smiling that made them scared about what was going to happen in that meeting room.
Oblivious to the thoughts running in his soldiers minds, Daemon stepped into the meeting room where he’d been summoned to for a very important conversation.
Daemon already knew what the conversation would be about but he was just going to wait for a scapegoat to act foolish and then, he’d use them to set an example for the others.
That was why he was smiling.
As soon as Daemon stepped into the space, the elderly men stood up from their seats to acknowledge him in respect.
He acknowledged them with a curt nod.
"What’s this meeting about?" He asked as he took a seat.
The air went still for a moment as heads turned against each other, everyone waiting for someone to speak.
Mr. Langford was seated right opposite from Daemon, his eyes narrowed at his son. After his previous threats, he’d been holding malice against his son.
To think the little boy he raised would threaten him like he would to a traitor left his ego bruised for a long while.
"We heard that you’re married to a Wesley and helping them with the war they have with the Mexican cartel, Crisanto Sanchez." A man with a head filled with white hair, wrinkles on the sides of his face while a few scars layered all over his face said. He glanced around, waiting for the other members of the committee to back him up.
"And where did you get that kind of information from?" Daemon questioned with eyes darkened.
Mr. Gromov, the man that spoke, made eye contact with Mr. Langford. The move was more than enough for Daemon to release a cold laugh.
"So, you’re out gossiping about my personal matters now, father?" Daemon mocked.
Mr. Langford’s face instantly turned red.
"They deserve to know. They’re still important members of the Bratva. You know of the dark history we have with the Wesley family, and yet, you decided to marry his daughter."
There was an edge to Mr. Langford’s tone and it was obvious he still wasn’t satisfied with daemon’s decision of marrying the daughter of his enemy.
Daemon sighed as he rubbed his eyebrows in frustration. He was aware his father would never give up on the issue, but calling on the important members of their community was simply too much.
"I never once thought that we would gather around together one day to discuss who I should get married to and not," he said with clenched fists.
"This is a very important matter, Daemon," Mr. Gromov said. "The Russians don’t associate themselves with the Italians anymore."
"And how’s that any of your business?" Daemon questioned. "Arianna is my wife, and will continue to stay as my wife till every single one of you meet your ends. She’ll be the queen of Bratva, so it’s better every single one of you starts to accept that reality."
Everyone clamped their lips shut, unable to say a word anymore as they shrank back into their seats.
But a few still weren’t ready to give up.
"Jeremy is currently at war with Sanchez." Mr. Andreev, a man in his forties, good shape for his age and spectacles barely hanging on the bridge of his nose included. "If he finds out that you’re helping the Wesley’s, he might wage a—"
"Sanchez knows better than to start something he won’t live to see end," Daemon cut him off, his gaze moving across the table until it landed on his face suspiciously. "And even if he does start anything, he and his colleagues will pay the price for it with their blood."
A shiver ran down Mr. Langford’s spine while his knees buckled.
It was a good thing he was already sitting on a chair, else, everyone would have seen it and gotten suspicious of him.
Looking at Daemon now, he wondered if he’d made the wrong decision five years ago, when he’d given Daemon Pakhan of Bratva.
He’d thought it was a good decision giving it to the son that seemed to truly care about the well-being of the Bratva, but looking at Daemon now, he wasn’t so sure anymore.
Ever since he claimed to fall in love, he’d been acting completely different, as if possessed. All because of one woman.
His jaws ticked. He needed to get rid of that woman, that was the only way for Daemon to come back to his senses.
"If that’s all, then this meeting is adjourned."
Daemon stood up and left while they all glared into their backs.
As soon as he was out the door, some of the men left as well, leaving Mr. Langford with Mr. Gromov and Mr. Andreev.
"You need to do something about this," Mr. Andreev said with urgency clearly marring in his tone. "You didn’t build this legacy just for it to be brought down by some kid who thinks he’s found his true love."
"If you must, kill her off," Mr. Gromov added. He was always the one with the most deadliest plans.
Making a person disappear off of the face of the earth permanently was his specialty.
"We cannot be associated with the Italians," he deadpanned.
Mr. Langford gave it a thought.
Daemon was smart, extremely too smart.
Initially, he thought it was a good thing, considering that he was on his side, but now, he felt like soon, Daemon would use the same mind against him one day.
If anything happened to Arianna, he would be the first person he’d suspect. But then again, if everything is planned right, then he might never find out.
"I’ll take care of it," he said. "She has to go one way or the other."
Meanwhile, Arianna was at her home, patiently waiting for Cassandra’s call once again.
After the last day she came to Leah’s office, she was still making sure there was no loophole on the contract.
Arianna sighed as she probed herself against the bed, realizing she was bedrotting.
If it had been months ago when she was still in power, then she would have already attended up to four board meetings before 12pm.
But now, she didn’t have to anymore except plan how she was going to take down Logan and Vivian.
Arianna propped herself on her bed, reaching out for her phone to search for the contact details of the investors that had already left Logan’s company a while ago. She needed to contact them and bring them back.
Logan giving her a position at the company was a very good way for her to get everything back.
Right when she saw one of them, her phone suddenly rang with a familiar number.
After spending several years together, she could still recognize his name wherever she went.
She bit her lips as she picked up the phone.
"What do you want?" She questioned as soon as she placed the phone against her ears.
"I was just calling to ask how you are doing," Logan said. She could almost smell him grinning like a fool. "Did you miss me? I missed you so much."
There was only one way he could have gotten her number, and that must have been through Leah. Either way, talking to her as if they were on good terms made her tummy to churn in the wrong way.
"Get to the point."
Logan sighed as he rubbed his forehead in frustration.
’She’s still acting hard to get, huh?’ He thought, a smirk stretching on his lips.
"I want to organize a party for you, to welcome you back into the company. You’ll be my assistant, a special one at that so I want to welcome you in a very grand way."
Arianna was too stunned to speak but she quickly found her voice.
"Where will the party be held?" She asked, her body turning stiff for a moment.
She needed to get the property papers she’d signed back. His home was the one place she needed to get in first to start her search, so she hoped the party would be held there.
"At my mansion. Our home."
Arianna resisted the urge to roll her eyes at the way he called it their home. It used to be their home, the one they’d built from scratch, the one where they’d planned to do so many things together and build a family together as well, until he’d betrayed her.
Even so, she was glad it was going to be held there. Now, she had a very perfect excuse to search around for the property papers.
This was her opportunity, the chance for her to get those papers and change them.
