Chapter 52: Proposal
Initially, Arianna thought that Leah was kidding around but she wasn’t.
Logan was indeed sitting right opposite her, with a smug on his face as if he’d just proved something.
Logan smiled at her. He’d doubted she would come out to see him but there she was, standing right at the door with glare jeans and a tight top.
It’s only been half an hour since Leah had made the call, and he should have known she would come without hesitation, afterall, she loved him.
He knew she loved him and he was going to take advantage of that love.
"What are you doing here?" She asked with narrowed eyes.
"I came to see you," he said, handing her a bouquet of red roses. "I got you your favorite roses."
Arianna stared at the red roses in his hand then back at his face, his smug still there, inching towards his cheeks with his chest pumped up as if he’d just discovered the cure to cancer.
Arianna’s palms itched, resisting the urge to slap him against the face.
"My favorite flowers are yellow roses," she corrected.
Logan’s smug instantly fell from his face, as he stared at her as if she was lying.
"You would know if you actually paid attention."
Logan had never gotten her favorite flowers correctly ever before. He always got her red roses, which were Vivian’s favorite. He would pretend he forgot or the florist didn’t have them in stock anymore.
For seven whole years, he never got them right.
Logan’s washed in embarrassment for a quick second before he quickly threw it away and stretched out his hand towards her again, with the flowers in it, expecting her to take it like she always did.
Five seconds passed and she didn’t.
Stiffly, he dropped the flowers to the side, his teeth gnashing in rage.
"What do you want?" She repeated, growing impatient.
Logan glanced at Leah who was already glaring at him.
"I want to talk to her in private," he said.
"This is my office, Logan," she reminded.
His teeth gnashed even more at her words but he didn’t insist anymore.
"Let’s step outside for a moment," he said to Arianna, reaching out his free hand for her to hold.
Arianna first shot Leah a look, wondering if she could see the same thing she was seeing before her gaze returned to Logan.
Without answering, she stepped out of the office to a more private corner.
"You only have two minutes to say what you have to say," she said coldly.
Logan scoffed. He knew she would spend more time with him if he wanted her to. She loved him after all.
"How have you been?" He asked her, his voice tender and gentle. It was the same kind of voice that she’d been used to for years, the kind that always made her heart race whenever he used it on her.
However, instead of feeling warm and loved, all she felt was hatred, mixed with the urge to smack him against the face, but she controlled all that rage and swallowed it.
"What do you want from me?" She questioned.
"Relax. I just wanted to know how you’ve been. We haven’t spoken since the last time you came to the company."
"You mean the last time I beat you up?" She corrected.
Logan frowned deeply, his mind wandering back to that day. She’d rendered him helpless after almost beating him up.
Thinking about it just made him swallow his saliva in disgrace.
"Let’s forget about all of that, it’s in the past. I forgive you because I know you’re still mad at me for what I did, and for that, I want to say sorry to you." Then he raised the flowers to her face once again. "I’m sorry I got the wrong one. I promise to get you yellow roses next time we meet."
Arianna stared at Logan as if he’d gone mad.
The grin on his face only got wider and wider, causing goosebumps to rise on her back.
"I’m not going to repeat myself, Logan." Her voice was stern now, reminding him that she could walk away easily and he might have to start afresh with everything again.
"Alright alright, I’ll get straight to the point now." He coughed a bit, and readjusted his tie as if he was about to say the most meaningful thing ever. "I want you back at the company, Arianna. The company needs you, I need you. Look, I know what I did was terrible and you’re going to have a hard time forgiving me, but I need you back."
Arianna stared at him for a full three seconds before she burst out laughing.
She laughed like she hadn’t laughed for days.
Logan stared at her, face red in embarrassment.
"Can you even hear yourself?" She questioned. "You want me back at the company after what you and Vivian did to me. Are you being serious?"
Even with how hot his blood was boiling in rage, he kept himself under control, parting his lips to speak but Arianna beat him to it once again.
"Don’t you have any shame? You’re here to ask me to come back to the company and you truly believe I wil?"
After getting Leah’s call, Arianna had contemplated coming to the company or not.
She felt like she wouldn’t be able to contain herself if she heard the nonsense Logan was going to spout out to her, but the man never seemed to let her down by saying the stupidest thing ever.
Then she paused. She still needed to get her properties back.
This might be her golden opportunity to do what she can and get everything he’d once stolen from her back.
"I’ll do it," she said instantly.
Logan didn’t look surprised. He’d expected her to accept his offer quickly.
"That’s good."
"But I want a position at your office. An official position and I want to have access to every confidential document in the company."
"That won’t be a problem at all. I’ll also make sure that the pay is high."
At Daemon’s mansion...
"Do you think I should call her?" Daemon asked, pacing back and forth.
Frederick was sitting on the couch, watching a movie as always without a care in the world.
After three days of intensive work in trying to find Levi’s hideout, he’d decided to give himself a day off.
"Do you want to?" Frederick asked without taking his eyes off the TV.
"I want to."
"Then do it." Frederick said with a dismissive tone, as if he couldn’t wait to get rid of him.
Since he arrived at his house an hour ago, he’d been packing nonstop, asking him questions regarding Arianna as if there was a way he could get to her.
Frederick shifted when he felt Daemon’s glare burning in his face.
"Sometimes, I wonder what our soldiers are going to say when they hear that their boss is worrying over a woman."
"She’s my wife and I have every right to worry about her. I haven’t seen her since the day that she got kidnapped. I want to know if she’s alright at least."
Frederick huffed and puffed as he dropped his bowl of popcorn.
"Give me your phone," he said, his arms stretched.
"Why?" Daemon asked suspiciously.
"You’re wondering if you should text her or not right? Well, you should if you’re so worried but I have a feeling you’re going to ruin everything with their dry texting."
Daemon’s face twisted but he couldn’t deny Frederick wasn’t wrong.
He handed him his phone and Frederick quickly got to work.
"First thing first when you want to text a woman, you have to make sure that the mood is perfect. You start by asking how she’s doing and how her day’s been."
Daemon watched as Frederick typed out the texts before sending them to her.
"Now, we wait for a reply."
"Well, how long is that gonna take?"
"Hmm, she hates you, so probably forever."
Daemon’s shoulders slummed in disappointment.
"But since you saved her life a few days ago, she might reply soon."
Hope immediately creeped back into his heart, silently praying that she does reply.
They waited. A minute gone but no reply.
Then two, then three and four.
"Send another text. Maybe she didn’t see this one."
Frederick shook his head. "You see, this is where you have to exercise patience. If you double text, she’s going to think you’re desperate."
"No shit. I am desperate. Send another text," he deadpanned.
Frederick sighed before he reached for the phone but it buzzed with a notification.
"She responded."
Before Frederick could read out the text, Daemon had already snatched it from him.
The screen displayed; I’m outside, and instantly, his heart raced.
Without wasting a single second, he bolted right out the door.
Frederick could only stare at him as he shook his head in disappointment.
"To think there are people scared of him..."
