Chapter 51: Traitor

"So tell me, what’s the good news?" His deep voice echoed in the office, making hairs on their back stand on their ends.

"Daemon Langford is working with Jeremy Wesley."

The man sitting on his seat didn’t look surprised at all by the revelation. Instead, he looked disappointed.

He leaned forward closer to the only light in the space, revealing a scar that slashed across his eyes to his lip.

If anyone saw him, they would think he was a reincarnation of the devil not only because of how soulless his eyes were but because of the aura he was releasing around him.

It was so intoxicating that no one dared to breathe, unless they wanted to join their friend whose body had already gone cold on the floor.

"I see," he drawled, picking up his stick of tobacco and taking a large puff from it. "And that bastard didn’t even bother to tell me when I called him the last time."

He laughed, a deep rumble escaping past his lips, making his men fidget.

He picked his pistol with the other hand, and instantly, the urge to pee suddenly clouded their minds due to fear.

The boss simply flicked the gun, playing with the dangerous weapon while his men shivered more and more.

"What else did you find out?" He questioned no one in particular.

The man who’d spoken earlier was the one to answer. "Mr. Wesley has received new crates of weapons delivered to him. From the looks of things, they were sent by Daemon Langford since he’s the only one who’s willing to not pay any ears to your warnings after you’ve made it clear that anyone who helped the Wesley family would suffer and have their territories taken from them."

The mysterious man scoffed before his hand banged hard against the table, making the room shake with deadly tension.

"Get out!"

No one dared to dally for even a second.

The room became empty, leaving only him behind.

He took another big puff of his tobacco before quenching it hard against the platter.

His hand reached for his phone as he stepped out of his seat to make a call.

He dialed a familiar number. After a few rings, the call was immediately connected.

"You lied to me."

"Listen," the other person said, cutting him off because he could continue. "Things were too complicated at that time, that’s why I had to lie to you."

"Don’t you have some kind of authority left on your control since you transferred your role to Daemon?" Sanchez questioned with a low growl. "Twelve of my men were killed by Jeremy’s men two days ago because you didn’t inform me on time that they had weapons now and can fight back. Twelve of them!"

He sounded concerned for his dead men, but even Mr. Langford that wasn’t true.

The more men he lost before the real war started, the less chances of him winning. He wasn’t concerned that people had lost their lives in the attack. He was only scared of losing.

Sanchez knew that if he lost the way that he’d started, not only would he become a laughing stick for everyone in the underworld, but his territory would be taken away from him, leaving him with nothing behind.

He wasn’t going to let that happen.

His reason for starting the way fueled his desire to win no matter what.

He didn’t care how many of his people died, as long as he made Jeremy Wesley pay for all his terrible deeds.

"Look," Mr. Langford said softly on the phone. "I’m trying to get Daemon to divorce Arianna. He’s being strong headed at the moment, but I’m sure it shouldn’t take long before I finally get to convince him."

"Why do you need to convince him? Just kill the girl off!" He bit out. "She’s only one person. Afterall, you can get your revenge on Jeremy by taking the life of someone important in his life just like he did to yours. An eye for an eye, Jeremy."

Mr. Langford breathed into the phone, rubbing his temple in frustration.

If only it was that easy, then he would have done that a long time ago, but he couldn’t, at least not after Daemon’s threat.

"I need to be careful with what I do. He’s deeply infatuated with her for some reason, and if he found out about everything, you and I both know we can’t survive him when he’s out to get revenge."

Sanchez’s lips instantly lined up together.

He hated to admit that Mr. Langford was right.

Daemon was only early in his thirties, but he was one of the most feared men in the underworld. They were older and experienced, but somehow, their kneels buckled whenever he was present.

Getting on Daemon’s bad side was the last thing Sanchez needed. He owned the whole of Las Vegas and more, his territory stretching further into Russia and Colombia.

Infuriating him was simply a death wish on his own part.

"You have to do something about this, Mikhail. Find a way out of this. I don’t have Jeremy getting weapons delivered from Daemon. We both need to get our revenge on him and we can’t do that with Daemon helping him out."

It’s been years since those incidents happened, but they’ve been deeply engraved in their hearts to make Jeremy pay for his terrible deeds. And they would do anything and everything to make sure it happened.

Then he hung up on the call, placing the phone aggressively on the table, his fist clenching hard with the knuckles turning white.

Three days later...

"I can explain what happened if you give me the opportunity to. I promise it’s not what it seems like."

"She said it herself on the internet that you cheated on her with her best friend, Logan. Do you really think I’ll trust my money with someone who easily betrayed his partner of seven years? It’s not going to happen. Stop calling me else, I’ll make you regret it." Then the person abruptly hung up.

Logan was close to giving up, but he wasn’t going to let things affect him so easily.

He’d been running the company for seven long years, he was more than experienced to get new investors if need be.

Unfortunately, Arianna had been the one handling that part. He never had to lift a finger or worry about the succession of his company after she took over garnering important people to invest in his company.

Now that she was no more, he had to take over that responsibility and things weren’t going exactly well for him at all. He never thought it was this difficult, or rather, he never thought that betraying Arianna would come with such consequences.

Logan ignored his thoughts and placed another business man on a call.

"This is Savanna, Mr. Gilbert’s assistant speaking, who’s this please?"

Logan paused for a second before he answered.

"Savanna, It’s Logan Henderson—"

"Mr. Gilbert has refused to take any calls from you from now henceforth. If you could kindly stop sending calls, then that would be greatly appreciated."

She didn’t wait for a response before she hit the red button on the call, cutting him short.

Logan pinched his temples in frustration and before he could control himself, he smacked his table hard, making all the documents shake.

He tried to control his anger but they flared around him like flames.

All because of one person, one woman, he was going to lose everything.

His head suddenly snapped up as he repeated his thoughts.

All because of one woman, he was going to lose everything. And that woman was Arianna, who was greatly obsessed with him.

An idea suddenly popped in his mind.

Arianna was in love with him, even though he’d made it clear that he only used her, he could see in her gaze that she still stared at him with the eyes of love. He had to use that leverage over her.

Logan quickly reached for his phone, ready to dial up her number but remember she’d changed it. He couldn’t reach out to her to make his proposal.

He dropped his phone, his hand flying to the small stubble on his chin as he played with it, wondering how he was going to reach her.

Then an idea popped in his head.

Arianna was at home, patiently waiting for Cassandra’s response.

It’s been a few days but she hadn’t received any calls or texts from her.

Her mind turned worried. Cassandra was the perfect person to work with in order to make Vivian pay for all her terrible deeds.

While deep in her thoughts, Arianna saw her phone ring. She rushed to pick it up, only to see it was from Leah.

’Did Cassandra contact her?’ She wondered.

Without hesitating, Arianna picked up the call.

"Did Cassandra reach out to you yet?" She asked immediately.

"Not at all. Someone is here to talk to you," Leah said as she glared at the man sitting right opposite her.

"Who’s it?" Arianna asked with a frown.

"It’s Logan."
