Chapter 50: Take Home

"She’s safe now, father," Josphine said into the call.

Mr. Wesley sighed in relief when he heard her.

After Cassian had found her and quickly gave Arianna’s location to Josephine, he hadn’t been able to sit still.

He finally stopped pacing and took a seat in his office, his heart finally calming down.

Since they were in two different cities, it would take much longer for him and the rest of his soldiers to get to Las Vegas and rescue her.

Thankfully, Josephine had decided to stay back in Las Vegas to look after her sister because she didn’t trust that Daemon wouldn’t hurt her as soon as he saw that none of her family was around to protect her.

"Where’s she now?" Cassian spoke into the phone, his voice tense.

"She’s taking a shower now," Josephine replied. She looked upstairs to make sure Arianna wasn’t coming down anytime soon. "Did you find the name of the man? That idiot didn’t say anything earlier."

"He’s Levi Sokolov," Cassian responded. "He’s a major crime syndicate but hasn’t made that many appearances in the underworld for almost a year now. The last time he was seen in public was at the Griffin’s wedding anniversary."

Josephine quickly paused.

"Griffin? Isn’t that...?"

"That’s right, Vivian’s parents’ anniversary."

Josephine’s fists clenched hard.

"Does that mean that bitch was the one who sent him to kidnap and kill her? I’m sure she’s still very disappointed that their plan against Arianna didn’t work three months ago."

"Could be. It could all be her plan but we’re not sure," he said.

Vivian was a heartless woman. Both she and her husband. They’d already seen it since they tried to kill the one person that helped them so much.

Cassian had already done his research on the family.

They were wealthy, powerful and influential, everything that a high class family in Las Vegas had, but somehow, they weren’t deeply involved in the underworld.

Their money came from their businesses, investments and partnerships with top companies all over the world.

Cassian has had his suspicions about them since Arianna became friends with their daughter years ago.

Even though Arianna didn’t contact her family for years, it didn’t mean they’d abandoned her either.

And now, they had a criminal attending their anniversary party.

Levi wasn’t recognized by anyone present because he always hid his identity, but there was nothing a few digging won’t do to uncover his real identity.

"Since we’re still unsure of what is really going on right now, just make sure that you stay close to Arianna," Mr. Wesley said. It was still shocking news to him that she’d been kidnapped.

Fortunately, she was safe.

"I’ll do just that," she replied and hung up on the call.

Mr. Wesley pocketed his phone as he sighed Ik relief.

He’d been dealing with a few attacks that Crisanto Sanchez had sent his way.

New York was La Cosa Nostra’s territory, which meant that every nook and cranny belonged to them.

No gang or another notorious syndicate can sell on their land unless they signed an agreement.

Just two days ago, they caught a group of Mexicans selling drugs on a secluded land that belonged to them.

After being caught, they tried to shoot them.

Initially, Cassian and the soldiers wanted to hold them hostage until they revealed the main reason why their boss was attacking them.

But after bullets had been fired on them, they had no choice but to kill each and every one of them.

Sanchez was definitely not happy about it and had sent a message out to the underworld that he was going to destroy La Cosa Nostra and make it a part of his territory.

"He doesn’t know that Daemon is helping us out with weapons right?" Mr. Wesley asked.

Eye bags were settling right under his eyes, thick stubbles rounding his face while a few of his wrinkles continued to pop out more and more.

"I doubt he knows that. People know that Daemon got married to Arianna Wesley, but what they don’t know is that she’s your daughter," Cassian answered, rubbing his eyes in frustration. He’d barely gotten any sleep for the past few days.

Mr. Wesley nodded in understanding.

Safety was the reason why he never announced the existence of his children until they were at least twenty one years old.

At that age, they must have already known how to fight and protect themselves.

Arianna was younger than twenty one when she left them, and he couldn’t be any more glad that she’d actually made that decision.

If people knew she was related to him, they would go after her, especially now that he was in a delicate situation of being attacked every single day that passed by.

"That’s very good. I don’t want you to tell her about what’s happening. She shouldn’t have to know, do you understand me?" He demanded. Cassian immediately gave a curt nod in response. "She’s already had her hands tied with her revenge plan on Logan and Vivian."

"But why is that?" Nicholas questioned.

He’d been silent the whole time in the study, even during the time Josephine had called to relay the news regarding Arianna.

"She abandoned us and now that we need as many hands on deck as possible, you’re just going to let her do whatever she wants?"

Cassian turned to Nicholas with the kind of look that made him wonder if his brother had truly lost his senses.

"What has gotten into you lately?" He demanded! "Ever since Arianna got back, you’ve been acting weird."

"I’m not acting weird at all. I’m just telling the truth. All of you are treating her like she’s some fragile thing. She’s a part of this family and she should be here and not with some enemy warning his be—"

Nicholas didn’t get to finish his sentence when he felt his face snap to the side with a pain that made half of his face go numb.

He held his cheek with one hand while the other touched his lips.

He saw blood.

Cassian grabbed him by the collar of his shirt.

"Snap out of it!"

"Why should I? Arianna has only ever cared about herself, that’s why she left us years ago and only came back when things did work according to her plans. For eight years, years, did she ever contact any of us to ask how we were and how we were handling things over here? No, she didn’t. Because she’s a selfish person who cares about herself. She returned after lying she was going to get her revenge on Logan and Vivian, but what did she do instead? She married the son of father’s enemies which made things more difficult for us." Then he forcefully yanks Cassian’s grip out of his shirt.

"Think about it! Daemon is the only one willing to supply us weapons. What if one day, he decides to change his mind and joins Sanchez in the war. We’ll all be annihilated!" He yelled, fear marring his voice.

"That won’t happen," Mr. Wesley said. "You need to stop being afraid, Nicholas."

Nicholas scoffed at his father.

"You don’t know how much deep shit we all are. Now, we’re seeking help from our enemy?"

He shook his head in disappointment since they failed to understand where she was coming from.

Then he stepped out of the office with his hand, not bothering to grab a napkin and stop the blood from dripping all over the floor.

Cassian and his father made eye contact.

Nicholas misbehaving was the last thing they needed in such a crucial moment like this.

Somewhere else...

In a dimly lit office filled with so much smoke that anyone who walked in would think that the space was on fire.

A man was seated on a chair, wearing a well tailored Armani suit, thick rings on his fingers as he brought the tobacco to his lips, took a puff and blew it out.

He wasn’t the only one in that space.

A few men were standing right before him, their hands in front of them with their heads lowered to the floor.

The man didn’t say anything, and continued to smoke, increasing the air pollution.

One of the men standing before him couldn’t endure it anymore and coughed with his hand placed over his lips.

The air suddenly went still.

The mysterious man dropped his tobacco on a cigarette holder and moved his hand across the table, picking up a gun.

A shot rang in the room in the next second.

The man who’d coughed earlier fell to the floor in his own death, a bullet hole to his head while his blood pooled beneath him.

Even after witnessing someone getting killed, no one dared to move, much less make a sound else they would be next.

"So tell me, what’s the good news?" His deep voice echoed in the office, making hairs on their back stand on their ends.

"Daemon Langford is working with Jeremy Wesley."
