Chapter 43: Get Him

"Do you have all the weapons delivered to the Wesley’s?" Daemon asked Frederick as soon as he stepped inside the space.

"Everything has been sorted out," Frederick replied. "I also added in a few nades like you requested."

"Good."

Arianna had shared his contact with Cassian a few days after the meeting at the office that didn’t turn out so well. But since blood wasn’t shed, it didn’t go as bad as he thought it would.

It’s been a whole week now since he’d seen Arianna. A damn week has passed since he smelt her vanilla scent, seen her icy blue eyes that glared at him as if he was the worst creature on earth and heard her beautiful voice that made something shift in his chest.

He missed her.

He missed her dearly.

Thankfully, her family had returned back to New York so there was no one who’d stop him from taking her away.

His shoulders suddenly sunk when he remembered that there was someone who’d be stopping him.

Josephine.

She hadn’t followed her family back to New York.

She was a piece of work, and he needed to come up with a way to take care of her.

"What are you thinking so deeply about?" Frederick asked when he saw Daemon staring into a blank space for over a minute.

Daemon shook his head. "It’s nothing."

Frederick cocked up an eyebrow at him but didn’t say anything else.

Daemon turned to him. "Have you found his whereabouts yet?"

Frederick shook his head. "There’s nothing yet. His last public appearance was at the Griffin’s wedding anniversary. There’s a chance that he might be working with them or own some kind of partnership with them."

After years of disappearing, Levi suddenly decided to return. This wasn’t good news for Daemon at all, considering his past with Levi.

If he was still in the city, then there was a good chance that he was planning something. He was certainly up to no good.

His mind suddenly went to Arianna. He was now a married man. The information must have reached the people from the underworld, both his friends and foes.

He had a weakness now, and that was Arianna.

If they wanted to get to him, all they had to do was hurt her.

Daemon’s fist clenched at this thought. He couldn’t let that happen.

"I’ve hacked into every possible CCTV camera in the city, but none have captured him. So my guess is that he’s either left the city or he’s still indoors, giving commands to his people," Frederick added.

If Levi was hiding, that made sense—he was in Daemon’s city after all.

However, that didn’t stop Daemon from wondering what Levi could be doing in Las Vegas.

He’d left after the incident that happened years ago, and now, he was back.

If it was any other time, Daemon wouldn’t have bothered himself too much about Levi. When the latter was ready to show himself, then he would strike.

But now, he has a wife to protect and he is afraid that Levi will go after her.

"Boss," a soldier suddenly walked in. "I just received a call from the man at the warehouse. It’s on fire."

Daemon’s eyebrows instantly furrowed together. "What?"

An hour later...

Daemon and a few of his men had arrived at the location of the warehouse, and indeed, it was blazing with fire. But not only that, corpses laid on the floor. Some belonged to his men and some that looked unfamiliar.

It was clear about what was happening. They were under an attack.

Daemon couldn’t believe his eyes, but there was not enough time to think about who those men could be and what they wanted from them.

He quickly ordered the back up men he’d brought with him just in case, and they charged at the enemies.

Once they saw that they were outnumbered, the men instantly tried to run away but a few continued to fight because they believed they could still win, and most especially, accomplish their biggest plan, which was to kill Daemon Langford.

"That’s him!" One of them yelled. "Make sure he doesn’t survive."

Daemon was busy fighting off their own who’d bounced on him. His gun was kicked out of his hands, leaving him with nothing but his own hands to defend himself.

One of them charged forward, trying to kick him but he dodged effortlessly, countering the attack with a kick of his own that sent the attacker flying, landing a few feet away from him.

The others had joined at once but dropped to the dead.

Daemon stared at the direction where the gunshot came from and found Frederick waving at him. Then he threw him another gun.

Daemon took the gun, but when he was about to step away, he noticed something on him.

A red dot that settled right on his chest.

Then a gunshot rang.

Daemon fell to the floor groaning in pain. He’d managed to move out of the way in time, but he was still grazed hard by the bullet, leaving him bleeding on the ground.

With a grunt, he got to his feet, aimed at the one who’d shot him and fired a bullet back, killing him on the spot.

Seeing this, the enemies were more hesitant about completing their mission now.

Only a few of them were left, and there was no way they could survive the fight since they were greatly outnumbered.

"Retreat!" One yelled.

The others didn’t waste any moment and quickly did as they were told.

Daemon and his men might not kill them on the spot, but once they were taken away for questioning, it was over for them. They would be tortured until they couldn’t take it anymore.

Unfortunately for them, there was no escaping for them.

Daemon’s soldiers immediately shot at their legs to stop them escaping.

Only two managed to run away but the soldiers quickly ran after them.

"Please. Please don’t kill us. We were only doing what we were told to do," one of them pleaded, tears streaming down his face.

Daemon glared at them. Whoever sent them to attack him and his warehouse certainly didn’t do well with picking out the men for the mission.

"Now tell me why I shouldn’t kill you?" Daemon questioned, his hand in his chest as he tried to stop the blood that was dripping out of his injury.

There were only five of them left, and they looked as pale as a white sheet of paper. It was obvious they were trying to think of a way to escape with the way they were glancing around.

But the soldiers all had their weapons pointed at them, making them lose all their hopes.

None of them could answer Daemon’s questions.

"How about this," he started. "You tell me who sent you and I’ll let you go."

Their eyes instantly widened.

This was a golden opportunity for them. All they needed to do was snitch on their boss, and they were free to go. They get to stay alive and return like they didn’t just betray him.

However, could they really trust Daemon to let them go.

He was a heartless man after all, especially with what they’d heard about him in the underground world. He wasn’t one to be messed around with.

"Levi Sokolov," one of them blurted out.

The others all turned to him, glaring at him.

They weren’t even sure if Daemon was going to let them go or not, and he just blurted out the name of their boss.

Daemon didn’t look surprised at all.

He had been expecting Levi to attack since he was still in the city.

"Continue," Daemon ordered the one who’d answered his question.

Without hesitating, he parted his quivering lips to answer.

"Levi wants you dead. He instructed us to burn down a warehouse so as to get your attention, so that once you get here, we’ll kill you."

Daemon couldn’t help but scoff.

"Why bother sending children to do a man’s job?" He wondered with a grin.

Silence reigned for a few seconds as the enemies wondered if he was going to let them go.

"We’ve told you everything we know. Will you let us go?" They asked.

Daemon’s dark eyes landed on them, cold and unsettling.

"You just tried to kill me, do you really think I’m going to let any of you go after that?"

Their hearts instantly sank.

Daemon cocked his gun, and right before they were about to plead even harder, gunshots rang with their brains blown out.

They fell to the ground, blood pooling under their bodies.

Frederick turned to Daemon.

"This isn’t good. If Levi orchestrated this just to get you out here and killed, he might do as far as sending assassins your way or worse, get a bounty on your head."

Daemon scoffed. "He can do all he wants but how am I supposed to take him serious if he can’t even come face me alone?"
