Chapter 38: Good Girl

"Why did you bring me to your house?"

"You collapsed in my arms earlier while you were pushing yourself to fight me," he explained with a cocked eyebrow as if it wasn’t an obvious reason she’d fainted.

Arianna scoffed.

"Maybe, it wouldn’t have happened if you’d just fought me," she seethed, eyes glaring at him.

Daemon blinked at her as if she’d just gone mad.

He’d been so worried that he had to call Ethan, the doctor who’d treated her while she was in a coma two months ago who’d confirmed his suspicions.

She’d completely neglected her health. It had only been three hours since she fainted due to exhaustion, but somehow, she looked like she’d lost even more weight.

"You must be crazy if you think I’m going to hit you all in the stupid name of whatever you were doing in there with your sister earlier." He almost snapped. Her life was at stake, and the only thing that she was concerned about was the fact that he didn’t fight her back.

Arianna’s glare intensified while she burned as if he’d just slapped her.

She threw the duvet off her lap and stepped down from the bed.

"Where are you going?" Daemon asked when he saw her wearing her shoes.

"What does it look like I’m doing?" She questioned back without looking back at him. "I’m leaving."

Arianna walked past him but he didn’t let her.

He held her hand, halting her.

"You’re not going anywhere," he said, his tone firm.

Arianna glared at her wrist where his hand circled around hers.

His grip wasn’t tight, but it was certainly firm, too firm. And the fact he was touching her didn’t sit well with her.

"Let me go, Daemon," she demanded, her eyes turning into slits.

"You look battered up especially after your fight with Josephine. You have bruises here and there, and you’re looking malnourished." He sized her up, feeling pity for her state. "If you think I’m going to let you walk out of here like this, then you’re terribly mistaken."

Arianna scoffed before she yanked her wrist off from his grip. The skin burned for a second, and she was tempted to clutch it to her chest.

"You wouldn’t want my family finding out about this, Daemon. You know what will happen if they know you kidnapped me."

"But I didn’t kidnap you," he said as a matter of fact. "You’re my wife."

Arianna’s lips thinned.

She always forgot she was already remarried, and at that, to one of the most dangerous men in the city.

Arianna didn’t say anything. She turned her back, ready to walk away.

She reached the door knob and twisted the handle, but it wouldn’t budge. She attempted to open the door a few more times, but it still wouldn’t open.

Sighting, she turned to Daemon with a scowl on her face.

He was holding a grin to his face now, and she was tempted to wipe it off with a smack to his face.

"I knew you would object to the idea of staying here or staying here with me, so I had to lock us up."

"Open the door, Daemon," Arianna demanded with gritted teeth.

Both of the exchanged glares, neither of them willing to back down on each other.

The door suddenly opened and an elderly man in a black suit stepped inside with two other servants walking behind him. One was carrying a tray of food and the other was carrying another tray with what seemed to be medicines placed on it.

Arianna stared at them with a frown on her face as they all ignored her, treating her like her presence wasn’t real.

"You can keep it on the table, George," Daemon said to the butler who nodded in understanding.

He signed to the servants who placed the trays on the table.

George turned to Daemon. "Is there anything else I can help you with, sir?" He asked.

"That will be all for now, George. Thank you."

George gave a respectful bow before he walked out of the room with the two servants following right behind him, their heads lowered without daring to make eye contact with either of the two.

"It’s time to eat," said Daemon.

He didn’t wait for her response and walked over to the couch right next where the food had been placed.

Arianna frowned deeply at him. She reached for the doorknob again, but it was still locked. She quickly regretted not bolting out of there immediately when the butler had walked inside earlier.

"Come on now, the food is not going to stay hot forever," Daemon urged with a smile on his lips. "You also have to take your drugs. And then I’ll need to clean your injuries for you."

Something was wrong somewhere.

Arianna was sure of it.

"Why are you doing this?"

"Because you’re my wife," he replied almost immediately, as if he’d been expecting her question.

"Our marriage isn’t real."

"It is, for me," he said, holding her gaze. "If only you knew how long I’ve been waiting to have you for myself, Arianna."

Her stomach dropped.

’What does he mean by that?’ She wondered.

"But before you start getting all suspicious now, the food isn’t poisoned." He took a bite of each food while still holding her gaze.

"I’m not hungry," she said, looking away. But she knew she was.

There was so much to eat but was she really going to have food in Daemon’s house? She never pictured herself being there, talk more about eating in his house.

Then her tummy betrayed her.

"That’s enough dilly-dallying, Arianna. Get over here." There was something in the way he called her name that made all the hair on her body stand on their ends, but not in a scary or cautious way but in a good way.

Then, she found herself marching towards him and took a seat right opposite from him.

Daemon smiled, revealing the dimples on his cheeks she’d never seen until now.

"Good girl."
