Chapter 1115: Chapter 1055: Adverse Evidence
Riverfront City is a small city with decent public safety, where the police typically help old ladies find cats, mediate neighborhood disputes, and at most chase down petty thieves. A breaking and entering gang would count as a major case.
Suddenly, there was a murder, and not just any murder—it was a brutal killing, with severing of the carotid artery and bleeding out. Such a savage method of killing sent shockwaves through Riverfront City’s police forces.
The higher-ups issued strict instructions: the case must be solved with seriousness, thoroughness, and speed.
Police Station,
"Mrs. Desmond, between 7:30 and 9:30 PM on the 17th, who were you with?" the police officer inquired.
"Noah Phillips."
"So during that time, you have no idea what your husband was doing?"
Sienna Johnson retorted bluntly, "So, you’re planning to convict my husband, are you?"
The officer replied, "Conviction and sentencing are the judge’s duties. I just handle interrogations and clarifying the case details."
"I trust my husband’s intelligence. If he wanted to commit murder, he would never leave a knife with his fingerprints at the crime scene."
"Perhaps he did it to mislead us?"
"Mislead you? Who intentionally steps in dog crap!" Sienna Johnson exclaimed emotionally.
Sue White placed her hand on Sienna Johnson’s hand, saying, "Sienna, calm down."
"I can’t calm down. They’re unable to find any suspects, and they’re planning to pin the blame on Adrian Desmond."
These people have no experience in handling criminal cases. Their questions all point to convicting Adrian Desmond, making it hard for Sienna Johnson to stay calm.
The officer was annoyed, "What do you mean by that? Are you calling us useless, living off taxpayers’ money without doing any real work?"
Sue White explained, "Please don’t misunderstand, she’s just rather emotional."
"Emotional or not, you can’t simply attack us police officers. Although there are some bad apples, most of us are good."
"Officer, do you have any more questions for my client? If not, I will take her away now. As you can see, she’s quite unstable emotionally," Sue White stated.
"You can go. We couldn’t get anything useful anyway."
Sue White supported Sienna Johnson as they left the police station.
The sun had melted the snow on the road, with a snowman piled up at the side, half its head missing, making anyone seeing it feel uncomfortable.
"Sienna, you need to calm down."
The hotel they were staying in had surveillance cameras, but the key point was Adrian didn’t return yesterday; he drove around near the orphanage instead, leaving it all quite unclear.
Sienna Johnson hadn’t anticipated such big trouble would arise during her visit to Riverfront City. Had she known earlier, she wouldn’t have come to the gathering.
"Sue, do you think Adrian will be okay?" Sienna Johnson asked helplessly.
"The current situation doesn’t look good for Adrian," Sue White stated truthfully.
Sienna Johnson felt physically and mentally exhausted, worried about Noah Phillips’s safety on one hand, and now Adrian being wrongfully accused on the other. It seemed as if an invisible hand was orchestrating everything.
Who could it be?
"Watch out!" Sienna Johnson was so engrossed in her thoughts that she didn’t notice the step and ended up falling, her knee hitting the hard ground.
Sue White hurriedly helped her up, noting her pants were torn and there was blood on the light-colored fabric.
"Let’s go, we need to visit the hospital."
Suddenly, an idea flashed through her mind, and Sienna Johnson’s muddled mind became clear... Could it be the phony Noah Phillips behind all this?
"Sienna, let’s go."
Yet, Sienna Johnson remained still, her gaze fixed on the snowman with half its head missing.
"No!"
"You’re hurt," Sue White reminded her, "If you don’t treat the wound, you’ll risk tetanus."
"I have to find him!"
"Who?"
"I don’t know either."
A man sporting Noah Phillips’s face, but who wasn’t Noah Phillips. Apart from him, Sienna Johnson couldn’t think of who else would do this.
Pretending to be Noah Phillips to approach her, confess, pursue, and now Adrian getting arrested... What is his goal, her?
If her suspicion was correct, he must be waiting for her to come and beg him, then he’ll seize the opportunity to make demands.
Sienna Johnson called him but discovered the phone couldn’t connect at all. Had she guessed wrong?
"Damn it!" Sienna Johnson cursed.
Sue White caught up to her, grabbing her arm, saying, "Sienna Johnson, don’t act impulsively! You’re in no shape to help Adrian."
"Sue, I feel horrible, absolutely terrible..."
"I know, I understand, if you want to cry, you can lean on my shoulder."
Sienna Johnson gave a bitter smile, "No way, your shoulder isn’t as broad as my husband’s."
"At a time like this, you’re still being picky. I give up on you."
"Sue, I’ve come to realize that I love Adrian more than I thought."
"That’s something you should tell your husband. He’d be overjoyed."
"But since he’s here, I feel shy to say it."
"Pretentious!"
Sue White took Sienna Johnson to the hospital to get her wound treated; her knee had been scraped, the medicine applied, but now it hurt with every step she took.
Sienna Johnson called home, saying she was dealing with some issues and couldn’t return for now.
Sienna Johnson couldn’t reach Lucas Robertson’s phone, so she called Kiki.
"Has Lucas returned?" Sienna Johnson asked Kiki.
"He hasn’t come back yet. I’ve tried calling his phone too, but it’s not connecting. Sienna, do you urgently need to find him?" Kiki asked.
"Yes, if he returns, please ask him to call me back as soon as possible."
"Got it."
"I might not return in the next couple of days, Sheehan, may I trouble you to look after him?" Sienna Johnson entrusted Sheehan to Kiki’s care.
"Alright."
Herbert Young arrived, and Sienna Johnson finished her call with Kiki.
"How’s Adrian doing?" Sienna Johnson approached Herbert Young, her face filled with concern.
Herbert Young looked at Sienna Johnson, sighed, and delivered some unfortunate news, "The day after tomorrow, the Court will hold the first hearing. If we can’t present favorable evidence in the Courtroom, Adrian will lose the case."
In other words, including today, they only had two days to find evidence to prove Adrian was innocent.
Sue White looked at the disheartened Sienna Johnson and said, "Even if we lose the first trial, we can file an appeal."
"Yes."
If the second trial upholds the original verdict, they would have no hope left.
...
Herbert Young utilized his connections within the judiciary system to allow Sienna Johnson an individual meeting with Adrian Desmond.
Compared to Sienna Johnson’s apprehension and fear, Adrian Desmond was much more composed; when she entered, Adrian was even picky about the food being bad.
"Adrian!"
Adrian Desmond looked at Sienna Johnson in surprise, "What are you doing here..." He hadn’t finished speaking when Sienna Johnson flung herself into his arms.
"Mrs. Desmond, restrain yourself, there are people outside."
"I was worried sick about you."
