Chapter 1116: Chapter 1056: A Special Witness
Sienna Johnson had tears sparkling in her eyes, and with a blink, the tears rolled down.
"Why are you crying? I’m not dead yet!"
"Boohoo..."
Adrian Desmond was terrified of Sienna Johnson’s tears. He wanted to wipe them away with his hand, but realizing his hand was dirty, he used his sleeve instead.
"Your clothes are filthy! Are you trying to give me pink eye?"
"My hand is even dirtier. I just finished using the bathroom and didn’t wash my hands."
Sienna Johnson kicked Adrian Desmond, but her strength couldn’t really hurt him. Adrian Desmond exaggeratedly hugged his leg and cried out in pain.
"What a show, keep acting!"
Adrian Desmond straightened up and hugged her, "Don’t worry, I’m fine. At worst, I’ll break out of prison. Like Andy in The Shawshank Redemption. But I won’t be as useless as him, spending over twenty years digging a tunnel to escape."
"You’re so impressive, aren’t you?" Sienna Johnson glared at him.
"You know I’m impressive, so why are you crying? If I can’t fix this little trouble, I shouldn’t even bother living."
"I’m just scared," Sienna Johnson trusted Adrian Desmond completely, so she shared all her feelings and thoughts with him, "...Adrian, I really love my current life. This life now is what I’ve always dreamed of. I’m so afraid someone will come to ruin it."
"No one can ruin it."
He held her face in his hands, gently kissed her lips, and they were so close their noses brushed against each other.
Sienna Johnson gently shook her head and pounded her chest, "No... I feel restless here, always feeling like something’s about to happen. Adrian, I’m scared. I’m scared of losing everything I have now."
"Stop crying, I promise you that no one can take away what you have now!"
Sienna Johnson wrapped her arms tightly around Adrian Desmond’s waist, buried her face in his chest, unsure of what to say, as his words couldn’t reassure her.
"Did Lucas Robertson figure out that person’s identity?" Adrian Desmond asked.
"I haven’t been able to reach Lucas Robertson either."
Noah Phillips, Adrian Desmond, and now even Lucas Robertson were unreachable, making Sienna Johnson feel like a bug in the palm of fate, unable to escape its grasp.
"I suspect it’s him," Sienna Johnson said.
"Don’t interact with him alone!" Adrian Desmond warned.
"Okay."
"Time’s up," a young officer quietly reminded them.
Adrian Desmond wouldn’t normally be allowed visitors for fear of collusion, but Herbert Young had pulled some strings to let Sienna Johnson meet with Adrian Desmond.
Now, Sienna Johnson had to leave; otherwise, if discovered, it would be bad for everyone.
"I have to go now," Sienna Johnson said reluctantly.
"Okay."
Sienna Johnson walked out but kept looking at Adrian Desmond, and Adrian Desmond kept looking at her. They both had expressions like star-crossed lovers being separated, tugging at everyone’s heartstrings.
After sending Sienna Johnson off, the young officer returned, "Sixth Master, Madam has left."
"Did she cry?"
"No, she didn’t cry."
This woman’s tears wouldn’t flow easily; showing vulnerability and shedding helpless tears in front of him meant she was completely open to him.
After all these years, he had finally reached the heart of that cold and detached woman.
As long as he didn’t touch Sienna Johnson’s bottom line, no one could eject him from her heart.
Not even Noah Phillips!
Adrian Desmond was in high spirits, suddenly feeling that a few more days in prison wouldn’t be so bad.
The young officer respectfully said, "Sixth Master, if the food’s not to your taste, I’ll get you a different meal."
"26, you’re a cop now; act the part a bit more convincingly."
"Yes."
"Get out!"
"Yes!"
The food had gone cold, but Adrian Desmond wasn’t picky. He broke open a bun and found a rolled-up paper inside. He unfolded it to find it read:
——Sixth Master, evidence has been found. Sabrina Conner.
Adrian Desmond’s mouth twitched, "Such an unnecessary move!" Why bother putting a note in a bun when 26 could have just told him directly.
Orienta’s TV dramas not only poisoned women but men too; Sabrina Conner watched those wartime dramas from Orienta and started imitating their little tricks.
In battles, those who think they’re clever are often the ones that die.
...
On the day of the trial, Sienna Johnson felt extremely heavy-hearted.
The sky was overcast and gray, just like Sienna Johnson’s gloomy mood at the moment.
Herbert Young, as Adrian Desmond’s defense lawyer, sat in the courtroom, while Sue White sat in the audience with Sienna Johnson.
Adrian Desmond was still wearing the clothes from that day; his stubble was showing. His gaze kept searching the crowd, and when he found Sienna Johnson, his eyes stopped, and he even smiled at her, but Sienna Johnson couldn’t muster a smile.
"Adrian Desmond looks good; he seems not to be worried about going to jail at all."
Sienna Johnson had come to terms with it, "If he’s really convicted, he can just break out. After all, he’s not a citizen of Orienta."
"I guess that’s a good solution."
In the trial’s first half, Adrian Desmond was nearly convicted of intentional murder, but the second half saw a dramatic twist.
A mature, attractive woman sat in the witness box.
Herbert Young nervously glanced at Sienna Johnson; his gaze paused on Sue White then moved to the witness.
Five minutes prior, this woman had called, saying she could prove Adrian Desmond had an alibi for that day.
Such a miraculous event seemed fishy to Herbert Young’s intuition, but he had no choice but to gamble.
Orienta’s judicial system is a two-trial system. Once the decision of the second trial is made, it’s the final judgment, unable to be changed.
If the first trial is lost, the pressure on the second trial will be enormous.
As long as there’s hope to reverse the verdict, Herbert Young is willing to take the risk.
"Mrs. Foster, on the 17th from 7:30 to 9:30 pm, you stated that the defendant was with you. Is that true?" Herbert Young asks.
"Of course."
"Are you sure it was the defendant, not someone else?" Herbert Young asks.
Mrs. Foster sarcastically replies, "He looks that handsome; how could I mistake him? Find someone equally handsome, and I’ll immediately marry him."
The prosecutor asks, "Mrs. Foster, how can you remember so clearly? Perhaps it was from 6:30 to 8:30?"
"We charge by the hour, so of course I remember the time clearly," Lily Foster replies.
The prosecutor asks, "May I ask your profession?"
"Sex worker!"
The prosecutor asks, "Are you saying the defendant was soliciting sex on the night of the 17th from 7:30 to 9:30?"
"It’s not exactly soliciting. Solicitation requires payment, his looks are good, and he’s got stamina, so I enjoyed it too and didn’t charge. In trendy terms, we’d call this a ’casual hookup.’"
Sue White was shocked by such an unexpected witness and looked worriedly at Sienna Johnson, but Sienna appeared calm, with no trace of emotion, sitting there watching Adrian Desmond like she was watching a show, completely engaged.
This couple truly wasn’t ordinary.
