Chapter 1725: Chapter 1711

Chu Ge stood up from the sofa, walked to Wen Zaao, placed his hands on his hips, and looked at her tidying up as if he were a parent watching a child.

"You won’t need this shower gel; do you not think it takes up space?" No matter how Chu Ge looked, he felt unsatisfied with the arrangement.

Wen Zaao was already a bit annoyed with Chu Ge and wanted to retort, but with Zhou Ang present, she held back and didn’t speak.

Now Chu Ge was finding fault again, so she directly looked up and glared at him, snorting, "If you’re so capable, why don’t you help me pack?"

Chu Ge understood her intention, laughingly saying, "You should do your own tasks; your parents would have taught you these principles from a young age, right?"

He swore those words were spoken without malice.

But to Wen Zaao, they sounded different. Her expression changed instantly, her eyes glistening with tears, "You’re wrong. My father never taught me anything since I was young!"

After saying that, she suddenly emptied the contents of her suitcase with such force as if she wouldn’t take any of them.

Seeing her anger, Chu Ge realized he had just misspoken, but it was too late to apologize as Wen Zaao stood up and strode into the bedroom.

The door slammed shut.

Chu Ge stood there, feeling a bit helpless.

Zhou Ang walked to him, patting his shoulder, saying, "Zaao grew up without a father; Uncle Wen went missing before she was even born, so he’s always been a taboo topic for her. You generally shouldn’t mention him in front of her."

He still remembered when Wen Zaao was in elementary school, someone taunted her as being a fatherless child, making her so angry and hurt that she beat them up and locked herself at home for three days without eating.

At that time, Mrs. Wen was terribly anxious.

He recalled being a boarding student then; when he returned, Wen Zaao had been in her room for two days. On the third day, he coaxed her out with much effort to eat something.

Since then, no one in Wen Zaao’s presence dared mention the word father. Any topic related to fathers would be carefully avoided.

Chu Ge looked at Zhou Ang, "It seems you know her quite well."

"We grew up together; to be precise, I watched her grow up, so saying I understand her wouldn’t be far-fetched."

Zhou Ang wasn’t sure why he felt the need to express that their relationship was extraordinary compared to others, nothing anyone could compare with.

Chu Ge didn’t catch the implication, lightly smiling, "Having a childhood friend to grow alongside sure must be joyful."

While looking at the closed door, he worried about the potential dangers they’d face on the way to Wuling Mountain, and how she’d interact with Zhou Ang. These were his concerns.

Might Wen Zaao forgive Zhou Ang for all his care over the years?

Rather than forgiving Zhou Ang, it’s more about her forgiving herself for being confined in her own narrow heart that’s closed off.

Chu Ge thought about it and realized he was overthinking things, so he shook off those troublesome thoughts.

"Indeed it was nice. She used to treat me like her brother, always trailing after me. Later, when I went to college and only returned once every six months because of boarding, she happened to be in high school. I remember she missed me so much she cried at night."

Recalling the past, Zhou Ang’s lips curled into a smile. Ah, childhood was better—carefree and without so many worries.

"Looks like she won’t be coming out anytime soon."

Chu Ge said languidly.

Zhou Ang glanced at him hesitantly.

"Zhou Ang, if you have something to say, just say it. Anyway, Zaao is in the room now and probably can’t hear."

Chu Ge knew that what Zhou Ang wanted to discuss wasn’t easy, but with Wen Zaao present earlier, he had trouble speaking.

"I’m still concerned about safety issues," Zhou Ang began.

Upon mentioning safety, Chu Ge too felt worried. He pondered for a moment and said, "To be honest, after you left yesterday, those black-clothed men came again."

Zhou Ang was shocked, looking at Chu Ge anxiously, wanting to ask if anything happened and whether Wen Zaao was hurt.

Chu Ge noticed his intention to ask, and said, "Don’t worry, Wen Zaao is fine."

Upon hearing Wen Zaao was okay, Zhou Ang breathed a slight sigh of relief, then felt it was somewhat inappropriate. He looked up at Chu Ge, opened his mouth to say something, but was interrupted.

"I’m fine too."

Zhou Ang was left speechless for a moment; then he awkwardly chuckled, "How about this, I’ll help Zaao pack her luggage."

He said, then crouched down to start sorting through the luggage spread across the floor.

For Chu Ge, packing his luggage alone was enough to give him a headache. Unlike the ancient times, the modern world required a lot to be prepared; he spent an entire morning packing his things. Although he criticized Wen Zaao’s belongings as excessive, his own might not be complete.

Now that Zhou Ang offered to help pack, he naturally accepted.

But Zhou Ang felt differently; from the interactions between Chu Ge and Wen Zaao, he felt somewhat like an outsider.

Before, visiting Wen Zaao’s home felt like coming to his sister’s house. When did this feeling suddenly change?

His offer to help Wen Zaao pack was merely an attempt to assert some authority in front of Chu Ge.

The day was peaceful yet tiring, albeit Zhou Ang and Wen Zaao were the only ones fatigued.

After Zhou Ang had packed Wen Zaao’s luggage, Uncle Fu called saying he’d bought the necessary items, so Zhou Ang spent the afternoon tidying them.

However, Wen Zaao disrupted her luggage packed by Zhou Ang, messing it up out of pique, then rearranged it haphazardly.

Chu Ge relaxedly sat on the sofa, watching Wen Zaao’s sullen face. He found it amusing, "If Zhou Ang poured you a glass of water on the journey, would you empty it and get your own?"

Wen Zaao turned and glared at Chu Ge, "You talk too much!"

Chu Ge shrugged, "It’s the truth, though. With Zhou Ang determined to join us, what I mentioned is highly likely to happen."

Wen Zaao pursed her lips tightly, looking at her messed-up luggage in silence.

Chu Ge continued, "Think about it, you even messed up your luggage packed by Zhou Ang just to redo it yourself—I mentioned pouring water, which is a smaller concern than packing luggage, and I’m sure you’ll be even less agreeable to Zhou Ang."
