Chapter 1726: Chapter 1712
Chu Ge’s words weren’t unfounded. For instance, right now, Wen Zaao had once again messed up the luggage that Zhou Ang had helped to organize.
Wen Zaao looked displeased, but ultimately said nothing.
Because she felt that she might really end up doing what Chu Ge said. If Zhou Ang poured her a glass of water, she might actually spill it.
"We’re setting off tomorrow. Think it over yourself. I think Zhou Ang did a great job packing. He has a lot of experience in traveling and even helped me reorganize mine. There aren’t many things, but they’re practical."
Early in the morning, Wen Zaao packed three large suitcases, but after Zhou Ang’s reorganization, it was reduced to just one. Even though this suitcase was the largest of the three, it was still much better than having three packed by Wen Zaao.
Wen Zaao said nothing, but nonetheless obediently put things back in their original place.
...
Fifth Space-Time.
Late at night, the Beggar Gang’s large courtyard was silent, except for the pleasant sound of frogs and crickets in the ears.
The night sky in ancient times was much clearer than the modern one. You could see a sky full of stars, vast and stunningly beautiful.
Yet, such a beautiful night scene had no one willing to appreciate it.
Only Chu Ge was bored, sitting on the rooftop with two jars of wine next to him.
He had one knee bent, both hands propped at his sides, looking up at the night sky, his emotions complex and unsettled.
He had been in this space-time for nearly three months now, and he didn’t know how Uncle Jian and the others were doing. Was the chaos of space-time resolved? Would he stay here forever?
Sometimes he even thought about just staying in this space-time, but giving up wasn’t his style.
Especially now that he had a way to go back, but he lacked the opportunity.
Yellow Island, an island controlled by Prince He Shuo, according to Luo Qi, heavy troops were stationed there, reportedly to train sailors.
Chu Ge sighed softly, lowering his gaze to the wine jug by his side. He picked it up and took another sip, the fiery flavor of the wine sliding down his throat.
He couldn’t help but click his tongue, when suddenly, a low chuckle came from behind him.
Chu Ge was startled and turned around, only to see the Old Gang Leader standing behind him with a faint smile on his face.
"Old Gang Leader, do you walk without making a sound?" Chu Ge’s heart thumped as he was startled.
The Old Gang Leader walked over to him, sat down, and looked at him with a cheerful expression, saying, "You were just too deep in thought."
Chu Ge gave a wry smile, "What could I be thinking about."
"I don’t know what you’re thinking, but there’s something I can tell you if you’d like to hear it?" The Old Gang Leader pretended to keep him in suspense.
Chu Ge’s heart was as still as water, seemingly nothing could stir ripples in his heart.
Seeing his lack of interest, the Old Gang Leader pursed his lips and said, "Young man, your road is long. Don’t let a little setback ahead stop you."
Chu Ge looked at him with some amusement, "Old Gang Leader, how do you know I’d stop moving forward?"
The Old Gang Leader shook his head, his greedy eyes occasionally glancing at the wine beside Chu Ge, sometimes lightly licking his lips.
Chu Ge knew that the Old Gang Leader was craving the wine. He curled his lips slightly and smiled, "Old Gang Leader, could it be that you came over here following the scent of wine?"
The Old Gang Leader chuckled, "You guessed right. I really did come over here following the scent of wine. Did you buy this wine from East Street?"
Chu Ge laughed, "Old Gang Leader, it seems your nose is quite sharp."
"Heh, it’s not my nose that’s sharp; it’s just that I haven’t tasted East Street’s wine in a long time. Seeing you went there specifically to buy the wine, I knew that you too know good stuff."
Chu Ge chuckled softly, gently shaking his head. He picked up the unopened jar of wine and handed it to the Old Gang Leader.
The Old Gang Leader’s heart was delighted, just as he was about to accept it, Chu Ge teasingly pulled it back.
"You mentioned earlier that there was something you wanted to tell me?" Chu Ge asked, "Tell me what it is first. If it benefits me, this jar of wine is yours. If not, you’ll just have to watch me drink."
The Old Gang Leader’s mouth twitched; he pointed at Chu Ge, clicking his tongue, "You, young man, you’ve learned bad habits from Luo Qi and the others, bullying an old fellow like me."
Chu Ge laughed, "How can this be bullying you? I’m just worried you’d have some trick up your sleeve against me again."
Upon hearing this, the Old Gang Leader was somewhat displeased, "Young man, when did I ever trick you?"
Chu Ge’s smile deepened, "You deliberately encountered me on the street, grasped my hand, and told me we came to the Beggar Gang to find a way back without explicitly telling me that Feng Luo is the Vermilion Bird Star. Isn’t that a trick?"
The Old Gang Leader was stunned for a moment, then chuckled, "If I had told you clearly that the Vermilion Bird Star is you, do you think you would have believed what I said?"
Chu Ge shook his head. If he had really been explicitly told then who the Vermilion Bird Star was and that he must come to find the Vermilion Bird Star in order to return, honestly, he would have been a bit skeptical and might have considered the Old Gang Leader a madman.
"Isn’t that just it?" The Old Gang Leader clicked his tongue and sighed, "You people, unlike those of us here, aren’t straightforward. The more people tell you something, the less you believe it."
Chu Ge was curious. From his words, it seemed like he had seen people other than him.
But thinking about the crystal ball the Old Gang Leader had shown before, which could see the past and future, Chu Ge became more curious about the Old Gang Leader.
"Old Gang Leader, what’s your identity?" he asked curiously.
"My identity? I’m just an old beggar, a fortune teller, nothing more."
Chu Ge clearly didn’t believe, "Just based on that treasure in your hand, it’s clear you’re not an ordinary person."
Upon hearing this, the Old Gang Leader laughed heartily, "Then tell me, who do you think I am?"
Chu Ge shook his head, "I can’t guess."
The Old Gang Leader waved his hand, "You’re overthinking it. I’m just a regular old beggar. As for that treasure you saw, I picked it up years ago while traveling through the mountains."
Chu Ge frowned, his face full of disbelief, "Finding a treasure that predicts the future and past just by chance? Trying to fool a three-year-old?"
He clicked his tongue, shaking his head, tapping the wine jug in his hand, "It seems this wine isn’t worth as much as I thought."
"Hey! That’s not right!" The Old Gang Leader immediately reacted, "You just said you would judge the value of this wine by what I tell you. How did it become about the crystal ball?"
Watching the Old Gang Leader’s helpless expression, Chu Ge couldn’t help but laugh out loud a few times, "Old Gang Leader, I was just teasing you!"
