Chapter 1691: Chapter 1677

Inside the hospital, Zhou Ang had a sudden heart attack and was rushed into the emergency room. Now, it has been half an hour, and the surgery light is still on.

He stood in the corridor extremely nervous, with his hands tightly clenched, his gaze fixed on the entrance of the operating room.

Suddenly, the door to the operating room opened, and a nurse hurried out, holding a document, she quickly walked to Zhou Laowai and said, "Are you the patient’s family member?"

Zhou Laowai nodded quickly, then suddenly thought of something and shook his head sharply, "I’m not, I’m the one who saved him..."

The bitterness of not being able to acknowledge his own son is something no one can understand.

Zhou Laowai’s feelings were indescribably complicated.

"What should we do? There’s a form here that requires a family member’s signature."

The nurse was perhaps a trainee, inexperienced, and upon hearing Zhou Laowai wasn’t a family member, she became a bit flustered.

Zhou Laowai couldn’t watch idly as his son’s surgery was delayed, he cleared his throat and said awkwardly to the nurse, "Although I’m not his family, I’m the one who saved him. How about I sign the surgery form?"

The nurse shook her head, "No, you’re not family, you can’t sign! This form must be signed by a family member, otherwise, if anything goes wrong, it would be blamed on our hospital!"

Zhou Laowai didn’t expect the nurse to refuse him, and suddenly felt both aggrieved and furious.

"Just consider me as his family!" Zhou Laowai raised his voice by several notches, "How can you be so stubborn, young nurse? What’s more important, a life or a signature?"

The nurse was startled by his yell, perhaps frightened, standing frozen without saying much.

Zhou Laowai didn’t hold back and directly snatched the document from her hand and swiftly signed his name.

Of course, he didn’t sign using his real name, but his alias.

After signing, Zhou Laowai walked out of the emergency room door; he needed a smoke to calm down and relieve his current tense mood.

The surgery was successful, and the doctor said it was due to Zhou Ang’s emotional instability, too agitated and angry.

Zhou Laowai was puzzled; he knew well the relationship between Wen Zaao and Zhou Ang, it’s impossible that Wen Zaao would anger Zhou Ang to the point of causing a heart attack.

Suddenly, he thought of Chu Ge. Subconsciously, Zhou Laowai thought Chu Ge was staying at Wen Zaao’s place, living under the same roof, seeing each other all the time – could it be that Zhou Ang was angry?

Does he like Wen Zaao? For a moment, Zhou Laowai’s mind raced with all sorts of speculations, becoming more and more absurd as he thought.

Zhou Ang was alone in the hospital, and Zhou Laowai was worried. In the end, he found a caregiver for Zhou Ang, a nursing lady about in her forties, and generally, people at this age tend to like gossip and chatter.

As soon as she arrived, she curiously asked Zhou Laowai, "Is this your son? How did he end up with a heart problem at such a young age?"

Zhou Laowai’s heart clenched, "How did you figure that out?"

He regretted saying that immediately, hurriedly changing his tone, "You’re overthinking it, I’m not his father."

The nursing lady was surprised, then smiled, "I thought you two looked quite alike, and thought you were father and son."

Zhou Laowai coughed lightly to conceal his awkwardness, "I’m not. I was just passing by, saw his car parked in the middle of the road, found him unconscious, and brought him to the hospital."

"Wow, then you’re a good person."

The nursing lady said with admiration, "Nowadays, if something really happens on the street, no one would care. Everyone’s afraid of getting into trouble."

As she tidied up the bedside cabinet, she sighed, "What’s happening to society these days? Everyone’s heart is cold."

Zhou Laowai’s mind was completely occupied with Zhou Ang, he hardly heard what the nursing lady was saying, "The doctor said there’s a six-hour danger period. During these six hours, I hope you can stay here and take care of him without leaving."

Saying this, he pulled out a blank piece of paper from his pocket and quickly wrote a string of numbers, "If there’s any problem, call this number."

This number is his wife’s, he hasn’t dialed it for twenty years, yet it’s been ingrained in his heart for twenty years.

Listening to his instructions, the nursing lady felt a bit puzzled. Just now, from his tone, these two seemed like strangers, yet his actions didn’t match those of a stranger.

He seemed overly concerned about this patient.

Meanwhile, at the nurse’s station, the nurse contacted the last person Zhou Ang was connected with through his ID and phone, Wen Zaao.

When Wen Zaao received the hospital’s call, she was completely stunned, immediately thinking it was her, that her attitude this morning had angered Zhou Ang.

And indeed, that was the case. She felt intensely guilty, quickly asked her supervisor for leave, and rushed to the hospital.

"Doctor, may I ask which room Zhou Ang is in?"

Wen Zaao ran breathlessly to the front desk and asked.

A short distance away, Zhou Laowai had just come out of the room, hearing Wen Zaao’s familiar voice, he squinted, really wanting to ask her what happened between them.

But he knew he couldn’t, couldn’t directly ask; otherwise, he’d expose himself and ruin the Old Palace Master’s plan, becoming a sinner.

Zhou Laowai could only temporarily suppress the bitterness in his heart. He took a deep breath, and then turned to the caregiver in the patient’s room and said, "I have to leave now, remember, if anything happens, call the number I gave you."

With that, he quickly left, like he was in a hurry.

The nursing lady was bewildered, she scratched her head at the empty doorway, "Why does this person seem so weird?"

After finding out the room number, Wen Zaao entered the ward; it was a private room, and the front desk nurse had told her payment was settled by the person who saved Zhou Ang.

She asked the front desk if they had left any contact information, but the front desk said no.

Wen Zaao walked into the room and saw a nursing lady helping with the care there, puzzled, she asked, "Hello, is there only you here?"

The nursing lady responded with a nod, "Yes, but the person who saved him just left."

"Just left?"

Wen Zaao put down her bag, then walked to the window, glanced at the hospital entrance, and saw nothing.

The nursing lady smiled and asked her, "Miss, who are you to him?"

She was asking about Zhou Ang in bed.

Wen Zaao came back to her senses, "I’m his friend."

"Oh, well, the person who brought him here paid for ten days of my wages, but as caregivers, there are some matters you need to be informed about."
