Chapter 208: Chapter 106: This Holy Light Angel Isn’t Very Good
Lynch, however, shook his head firmly. "Let’s be fair about this. If it weren’t for your final move last night, Avril, the Crimson Reaper would have likely escaped. We wouldn’t have gotten a thing, and it might have even left behind a lingering threat."
"We all fought this battle together, so the spoils should naturally be split evenly. That’s the rule. It’s fine if you want the corpse, Amadis, but we have to assign it a value and deduct it from your share."
"I didn’t just pull the five-thousand price tag out of thin air. The corpse’s quality is indeed very high, but it’s tainted with some Holy Light, which might reduce the chance of awakening it as a Soul Fire Skeleton. If it turns into a dud, then you’ve lost five thousand. But if it successfully converts into a Soul Fire unit, you’ll have hit the jackpot... Amadis, you should think it over carefully if you want it."
"Alright then. If you’re going to be so serious about it, Lynch, we’ll split it evenly!" Amadis chuckled. "I’ll still take the corpse. As for the remaining twelve thousand, just give me whatever you feel is right."
Seeing this, Avril didn’t object any further.
Soon, the spoils were divided up completely in a friendly and harmonious atmosphere.
The three of them each put away their respective shares.
Amadis couldn’t wait to convert the corpse, so Lynch and Avril accompanied her to a small grove behind the farmhouse.
「A moment later.」
A Skeleton with blood-red streaks on its bones stood before them, two clusters of ghastly green Soul Fire burning in its eye sockets.
Amadis let out a cheer as if she’d hit the jackpot, then rushed forward to inspect it carefully.
Soon, she announced excitedly, "This Soul Fire Skeleton Mage also has two blood Magic skills, Blood Siphon and Blood Arrow Skill! And its intelligence is decent."
"Most importantly, it’s already close to Tier Three. With a little training, it will be a fully-fledged Tier Three magic-type unit."
She currently only had a single ghost at Tier Three and had long been envious of Lynch’s High Tier Undead Units.
Lynch smiled. "Congratulations, Amadis. You’ve added another powerful warrior to your ranks."
Although Avril had an instinctive aversion to Undead conversion, she still offered her congratulations politely. "Congratulations, Amadis."
Amadis, in high spirits, clapped her hands. "Alright, that’s all settled. When are we setting off? Lynch, I insist on coming with you to Lakefront Town this time."
"Back to Lakefront Town?" Lynch’s expression shifted slightly.
"Don’t worry, I’m just going to watch and learn." Amadis, still in a great mood, couldn’t help but joke, "I won’t make a move on your Ice Rose!"
Lynch’s expression darkened, but since she’d put it that way, he couldn’t very well refuse.
He glanced at the darkening sky overhead. "In that case, let’s rest here for one more night. We’ll head for Orlando first thing tomorrow morning and take a Griffin straight back to Lakefront Town."
The night passed uneventfully.
Early the next morning, the trio left the farmhouse and returned to the city of Orlando.
Outside the city, they first paid the fee for the three "lost" warhorses, then headed straight for the Griffin Station.
The Griffin they had ridden here, "Thunderclaw," had been taken back by Ophelia and Lilith a few days prior, so the three of them had to rent Griffins from the military.
Lynch had originally intended to rent three.
But Avril gently tugged on the corner of his sleeve and whispered, "Lynch, two should be enough... I... I can ride with you."
Her cheeks were flushed, and her voice trailed off into a mumble.
But Amadis wasn’t about to let her little scheme succeed. She yanked Avril to her side, waved a hand magnanimously at the Griffin handler, and declared, "Three it is. A Battle Group Commander like me isn’t short on pocket change."
"Give me one that knows the route to Lakefront Town. Any two will do for the others."
For a recently established, fixed route like the one to Lakefront Town, usually only one Griffin knew the flight path, but the others could simply follow.
Of course, if the Griffins weren’t needed back in the city right away, they could rest and feed at the temporary station in town. Once they were full, they would fly back to Orlando on their own.
What Lynch and his group had to pay for was the round-trip rental fee.
Although Avril was so angry her cheeks puffed out, she was no match for Amadis’s strength and had to give up.
Soon, the three had each mounted a Griffin.
The Griffins beat their wings and soared into the sky. A strong wind buffeted their faces as they quickly vanished into the clouds.
「Around noon.」
The three Griffins landed one after another at the Griffin Station in the mountains behind Lakefront Town.
The moment the trio dismounted, they saw Aus running toward them in a hurry.
"Sir, you’re finally back!" Aus hurried forward and reported quickly, "During the days you were away, our forward scouts reported that the Blue Scarf rebels holed up in Rock Fortress are showing signs of unusual assembly and movement..."
"Furthermore, Battle Group command sent an urgent Magic communication. A sizable force of Blue Scarves from Sardinia Province has slipped through Gray Claw Gorge and into our Red Ridge Mountain region."
"The Battle Group Commander believes the rebels are likely preparing to launch a full-scale offensive against the Thirteenth Battle Group’s defensive sector!"
Aus spoke extremely quickly, but his report was perfectly clear.
Lynch’s brow furrowed at the news.
Rock Fortress was the Blue Scarves’ closest major stronghold to Lakefront Town. The routed force that Catherine had intercepted previously had fled to Rock Fortress and successfully merged with the rebels stationed there.
Over the past six months, Lakefront Town and Rock Fortress had clashed in a few small-scale skirmishes, but Rock Fortress had always come out on the losing end. As a result, the rebels there had kept quiet for some time.
However, Rock Fortress was situated in treacherous terrain and had sturdy walls, so Lynch wasn’t about to waste his energy launching a forced assault.
Consequently, for the last two or three months, the two sides had maintained a tacit understanding to leave each other alone. Lynch was more than happy with this peace, using the time to focus on developing his territory and strengthening his own forces.
