Chapter 209: Chapter 106: You’re Not a Very Good Holy Light Angel~
’After all, when it came to development, how could Rock Fortress possibly compare to him, to Lynch?’
But now, it seemed this "tacit understanding" was about to end.
"Alright, I understand. Let’s head back to the garrison first." Lynch’s brow smoothed as he spoke calmly. "It’s about time for lunch anyway. We can talk while we eat."
Amadis and Avril exchanged a glance, their relaxed expressions vanishing as they followed.
Inside the garrison’s dining hall, a lavish lunch was already laid out on a long table.
Catherine, Ophelia, Lilith, and the attendant Priest apprentice, Conrad, had already been notified and were present.
Catherine was still in her suit of bright silver Armor, though she wasn’t wearing her helmet. Her long, golden hair was tied back. When she saw Lynch enter, she merely shot him a cold glance.
But upon seeing Amadis, her pupils contracted slightly. She let out an almost imperceptible snort, her aura growing even colder and more aloof.
Amadis, however, honored the promise she had made before arriving and didn’t start a conflict with Catherine, choosing to ignore her completely.
Ophelia and Lilith, on the other hand, were delighted to see Avril.
They weren’t very familiar with Aus or Catherine and had felt rather constrained these past few days. Now that familiar faces had returned, they visibly relaxed and hurried over to pull Avril into a conversation.
After some pleasantries, they each took their seats.
Lynch ate quickly, signaling for Aus to begin.
Aus was clearly prepared. He immediately had someone bring in a detailed military map of the Red Ridge Mountain region and hang it on the dining hall wall.
In addition, two Soldiers carried in a small sand table, about two meters long and over a meter wide, and placed it at one end of the long table.
The sand table was exquisitely detailed. Using different colored sands, gravel, and miniature models, it clearly simulated the terrain of the Red Ridge Mountain range and key locations like Mirror Lake, Lakefront Town, the West Ridge Mining Area, Rock Fortress, and Gray Claw Gorge. Even major roads, rivers, and forests were marked, making it highly realistic.
It made Lynch have to admit that Aus was a true talent, someone who had dabbled in a bit of everything.
This was a realistic sand table that Aus had painstakingly created over the past six months by continuously gathering intelligence and sending men to conduct on-site surveys.
Most importantly, the young man was exceptionally energetic, as if he possessed an inexhaustible supply of strength and passion.
Lynch finished his food and waited patiently for a moment. Once he saw that everyone was more or less done eating, he walked over to the sand table.
The others followed, gathering around it.
The small dining hall instantly transformed into a temporary war room.
Lynch picked up a long, thin wooden stick and pointed it at the small black model representing Rock Fortress.
"First, let’s talk about the specific unusual movements from Rock Fortress. Aus, give us the details."
"According to Scout reports, Rock Fortress has sent out twice as many patrols as usual over the past three days, significantly expanding their reconnaissance range. At the same time, the amount of cooking smoke from within the fortress has noticeably increased, suggesting that reinforcements have been secretly arriving... but the exact numbers are unknown."
"Then our top priority now is to get a clear picture of the enemy’s numbers and their movements," Lynch said thoughtfully. "At the same time, we need to begin preparing for all-out war immediately."
He looked up, his gaze sweeping over the group before finally landing on Ophelia and Lilith. "Ophelia, I am appointing you as the commander of the Ninth Battalion’s Third Company, with Lilith as your deputy commander. The two of you are to start at once. Use the existing veterans as a core, and select strong, reliable townspeople to fill the ranks of the Third Company first. Push the training, but don’t rush it. Just follow the usual drills."
Ophelia straightened her back and gave a military salute, her valiant face filled with seriousness. "Yes, my lord!"
Lilith also nodded vigorously, her clear, beautiful eyes gleaming with eagerness.
After giving them their assignments, Lynch’s gaze returned to the sand table.
’New recruits could hardly be expected to hold their own in such a short time; they were mainly a precaution. The most urgent task was still reconnaissance.’
He thought for a moment, then turned to look at Amadis.
"Senior, this situation is critical. I’m afraid I’ll need to borrow your phantoms and Undead Cavalry."
"Phantoms have no physical form, making them perfect for nighttime infiltration and reconnaissance. The Undead Cavalry, with their high mobility, are ideal for expanding our scouting range and harassing the enemy’s flanks."
A small smile played on Amadis’s lips, her violet eyes flashing with excitement. "No problem. My troops are at your disposal. The ’Shadow’ and two squads of Skeleton Cavalry are under your command as of today."
Lynch’s gaze shifted to Aus. "Aus, for the time being, you will have full authority over coordinating the town’s defenses, allocating supplies, reassuring the populace, and all other logistical support. I need a stable and efficient rear."
Aus showed no surprise, nor any intention of declining. He immediately bowed to accept his orders. "Understood, my lord. I will ensure everything is in order and ready to support the front line at any moment."
"Catherine." Lynch’s eyes turned to the silent Ice Rose at his side.
At the sound of her name, Catherine lifted her ice-blue eyes to meet his.
Her face was expressionless, but she leaned forward slightly, clearly listening intently.
"I need you to take a team of your most elite Scouts and coordinate with Senior Amadis’s phantoms. Conduct a priority reconnaissance of the Gray Claw Gorge area and, at the same time, keep a close watch on all unusual activity from Rock Fortress," Lynch commanded in a steady voice. "I want to know the exact size, unit composition, marching route, and destination of that roving Blue Scarf force. I also need detailed intelligence on the enemy troops mustering at Rock Fortress."
