Chapter 275: Chapter 275: Your Subject’s Wife, a Stain on the Emperor’s History
A jade belt embroidered with a Golden Dragon lay tossed at Ji Qingwu’s feet.
Emperor Wu Su replied matter-of-factly, "So this time, it’s I who has appeared before you."
Ji Qingwu seethed at his twisted logic.
’He forbade her from appearing before him, yet he could come and go as he pleased, doing whatever he wanted. What kind of justice was that?’
’But what could she do? He was the Emperor.’
That day in Zhaoyang Hall, he had spoken such cruel words to her in front of everyone. She had sensed there was a reason, that he hadn’t meant what he said.
But from the Emperor’s assassination and supposedly fatal injuries to his bizarre recovery now...
Only now did Ji Qingwu realize that Emperor Wu Su hadn’t revealed a single thing to her about his plans.
His machinations were so profound, so deliberately concealed, that even if she wracked her brain, she could never fathom them.
’Why should she let him stir her heart into turmoil just because he wanted to?’
The man before her stood by the bed, his robes hanging loosely. Ji Qingwu said sternly, "But for Your Majesty to appear in the Wei Family estate late at night, in the women’s quarters no less, is a breach of decorum."
Emperor Wu Su remained unmoved. With his right hand, he shrugged off his outer robe, revealing his inner tunic and under-trousers.
Ji Qingwu’s eyes were fixed on his hand as he began to untie his tunic.
"But I’m already..."
He swiftly tossed the moon-white tunic aside, his powerful, lean physique revealed in its entirety under the lamplight.
Ji Qingwu’s gaze froze.
It wasn’t as if she had never seen this strong, slender body before, back when she was applying his medicine.
But back then, she had been too worried about his injuries to look closely. Besides, she was a physician; there was no distinction between genders when treating a patient.
His broad, solid shoulders sloped down, his muscles firm and powerful. Bandages were still wrapped around his left pectoral, but they didn’t detract from his heroic air in the slightest. In fact, they only served to accentuate his tall, imposing frame.
Ji Qingwu found it hard to look away, but now was not the time to be captivated by his masculine charm.
She clenched her fists and squeezed her eyes shut.
Her throat tight, she said, "But this subject... is already married."
Just those two words...
...were enough to make every muscle in Emperor Wu Su’s body tense instantly. Veins even bulged on his abdomen.
A frigid glint of rage shot from his eyes.
Even with her eyes closed, Ji Qingwu could feel his piercing gaze on her face.
The two words, "this subject," effortlessly stripped away all of Emperor Wu Su’s previous pretense of friendliness.
’In this situation, Ji Qingwu didn’t believe she was at fault. Call it a cruel twist of fate, or simply that they were not meant to be.’
’But regardless of the future, she had principles she had to uphold now.’
Ji Qingwu raised her gaze, her eyes falling on the dragon claws of the belt at her feet.
She raised her voice, as if to give herself courage.
"Aren’t you afraid of the Imperial Censors’ remonstrations, Your Majesty? Aren’t you afraid of leaving a disgraceful mark on the pages of history?"
At her words, a wild smile touched Emperor Wu Su’s lips.
"And so what?"
He said in a voice so cold and deep it was soul-shaking, "I am the one who writes the history books now!"
Ji Qingwu was stunned into silence by his domineering words.
She had thought that Emperor Wu Su, like every other Emperor, wanted to be a great ruler whose name would be praised for eternity, leaving only a glorious reputation in the annals of history.
But he didn’t care about that.
’Then what did he care about?’
With nowhere left to retreat, Ji Qingwu was soon forced into the corner of the bed by Emperor Wu Su. He pressed down on her pliant waist, trapping her beneath him.
He gave her no more chances to speak.
A heavy weight settled over her, pressing Ji Qingwu down firmly. She found it hard to breathe. Her lips were captured by his, and each breath became a luxury.
A moment ago she’d felt a draft, but now the air was thick, hot and stuffy. Tiny beads of sweat formed on the tip of her nose, only to be kissed away by him.
During a brief lull, Ji Qingwu reached out to push him, but Emperor Wu Su didn’t budge, his kiss only growing more savage.
She could only endure it all passively. A pink flush quickly rose to her cheeks, more dazzling than the bright red brocade mattress beneath her.
Her beautiful, flushed cheeks soon drew Emperor Wu Su’s gaze.
He gripped her pale neck, and Ji Qingwu threw her head back, gasping for great lungfuls of air.
There was no gentle affection, only brutal plunder and arrogant possession.
It was as if he wanted to leave his deepest mark on every inch of her skin—a brand that belonged only to him.
Ji Qingwu’s voice came in broken gasps. "Where... Where are we? Do you... even realize?"
Emperor Wu Su’s actions told her that he knew perfectly well.
He knew, and he was determined to commit this great transgression regardless.
The fabric on her chest, barely enough to cover her, was still there, but it was crumpled into a useless ball, hiding nothing.
Ji Qingwu’s watermelon-pink silk trousers were not spared either.
She made a sound of protest, and the large hand at her throat tightened uncontrollably.
The latter half of the sound was muffled in her throat, escaping as a low hum.
To Emperor Wu Su’s ears, it sounded indescribably soft and vulnerable.
The depths of the man’s eyes were as black as ink.
Emperor Wu Su straightened up. His muscles were solid, a wall of sculpted flesh. With the rhythm of his breathing, they rippled and flexed.
He stripped away the last of his restraints, his aggressive, primal nature completely unleashed.
The night wind blew in from outside. She turned her head, her dazed eyes gazing at the door as it creaked in the breeze.
The wind also blew away the fog in Ji Qingwu’s mind, restoring her reason.
She snatched the moon-white tunic he had tossed beside the pillow and tried to scramble off the bed, but Emperor Wu Su pinned her down with ease.
They were now bare before each other. What would happen next was self-evident.
Ji Qingwu used all her strength to fight him off, her nails digging long, bloody scratches into his skin.
Soon, the scent of blood filled the air.
It was her own hand—she had accidentally touched the wound on his left pectoral.
Blood was already seeping through the bandages.
The blooming crimson stain was the exact same shade as the red wedding bedding beneath Ji Qingwu.
Emperor Wu Su, however, seemed oblivious. Seeing that she had stopped struggling, his lips curled. "What’s wrong? Getting soft on me already?"
The wound was near his heart, after all. Ji Qingwu was both furious and frantic.
"Are you trying to get yourself killed?!"
Emperor Wu Su grabbed her wrist and pressed her hand against his wound. When Ji Qingwu’s hand touched the wet blood, her fingertips began to tremble uncontrollably.
He said in a low voice, "The real wound is on the inside. Only you can heal it."
In stark contrast to the force of his actions, his words were full of deep emotion, almost like a plea.
The blood on her fingertips felt as if it seeped through her skin and into her heart, merging with her own.
The light in Ji Qingwu’s eyes flickered.
Her fingers began to gently stroke his chest over the bandages.
Emperor Wu Su’s tense jaw relaxed slightly as he savored her comforting touch.
Just as his eyes half-closed in comfort, Ji Qingwu suddenly shoved him hard.
Emperor Wu Su let out a muffled groan of pain.
Ji Qingwu snatched her hand back, her fingertips scorching.
’Just now, he clearly could have dodged that.’
’Not only did he not dodge, he actually moved his body to press himself against her right hand.’
’He did it on purpose!’
’He was deliberately trying to make her heart soften so he could get his way!’
