Chapter 274: Chapter 274: We Are Asking You, Will You Give Birth?

The room was a sea of blinding red. The Dragon and Phoenix Candle had already burned halfway down.

Emperor Wu Su’s eyes were also stained crimson, reflecting a ferocity Ji Qingwu had never seen in him before.

Her body was terrified of him in this state; the arm he held in a viselike grip was still trembling.

But the heart hidden in her chest, surprisingly, wasn’t frantic. Instead, it swelled with a burgeoning heat.

Ji Qingwu’s gaze locked onto Emperor Wu Su’s enraged face, and she stared greedily for a long moment. Then, as if suddenly remembering something, she used her free hand to feel for his pulse at his wrist.

She said in astonishment, "Your Majesty, your injuries have healed?"

His pulse was strong and steady, already mostly recovered.

Before, it had been as faint as a silken thread, as if it could stop at any moment. This was the first time Ji Qingwu had ever seen someone recover with such miraculous speed.

Emperor Wu Su pursed his lips, silent. His hostile gaze landed on her, lingering especially on her waist.

A moment ago, Ji Qingwu had only been focused on his face.

Now, under the bright candlelight, Ji Qingwu lowered her head, her delicate neck tracing a graceful curve. Only then did she get a clear look at the inner garment she had hastily thrown on.

Her waist was wrapped in blush-red, sheer gauze, with only a pitiable scrap of brocade covering her chest.

As expected, her back, draped with her long hair, was also nothing but sheer gauze.

No wonder she had felt a chill all over, as if a draft was weaving through her clothes. She had chalked it up to the sheer force of Emperor Wu Su’s presence.

Ji Qingwu inwardly cursed the absent Wei Ting. ’He actually had this seductive gauze nightgown prepared.’

Emperor Wu Su’s expression grew even more terrifying, as if he were imagining what the two of them had been doing in the room before his arrival.

Even his breaths were ragged with fury.

"It seems my recovery was inconveniently timed. I’ve disturbed your wedding night."

A moment ago, Ji Qingwu’s mind had been reeling, lost in the joy of seeing him awake and well. She had almost forgotten that she was in the Wei manor.

’Emperor Wu Su is here so late at night. He must have found out I married Wei Ting and is burning with rage.’

Her thoughts began to settle.

Though her marriage to Wei Ting hadn’t been entirely willing, the fact remained that they were now wed.

If she were discovered with another man on her wedding night, the resulting scandal would bring unbearable shame to both the Ji and Wei families.

And she shouldn’t subject Wei Ting to such a profound humiliation.

The door was still wide open. Ji Qingwu asked, "Wei Ting... he..."

Before she could finish, a force as violent as a tempest threw her onto the wedding bed.

The longans and peanuts she had meticulously arranged on the bed earlier to stall for time now dug painfully into her back, a burning sensation spreading across her skin.

A shimmering film of moisture instantly coated her eyes.

Ji Qingwu pushed against the covers with both hands, trying to sit up, but a large shadow suddenly loomed over her. She lowered her head, not daring to make another move.

Seeing that the wedding quilt was still neat, Emperor Wu Su’s gaze swept over the dried fruits scattered on the red brocade. He reached out and picked up a peanut from beside her calf.

It didn’t seem like he intended to do anything rash. Only then did Ji Qingwu dare to look up at him.

Emperor Wu Su raised his eyes, his tone devoid of emotion. "How far did you two get?"

Stung by the crude implication of his question, she bit her lip and countered with a question of her own.

"Where did Wei Ting go?"

’Li Yuzong called Wei Ting out, and then he just vanished. Where on earth could he have gone?’

He watched her crimson lips part, only to utter Wei Ting’s name once more.

’Just moments ago, she had run from the room, calling Wei Ting’s name over and over. Has it only been a few days, and he already holds such an important place in her heart?’

Emperor Wu Su crushed the peanut shell in his hand, revealing two plump, deep-red kernels between his long fingers.

He lowered his gaze to conceal the emotion in his eyes. "Wei Ting won’t be back tonight."

Ji Qingwu flinched, her lips trembling.

"What do you mean, ’won’t be back’?"

Emperor Wu Su leaned down, his deep voice sounding right beside her ear as he slowly and deliberately gave her the answer.

"The Xijin Faction launched a surprise attack with two hundred thousand troops. Wei Ting is on his way to the Northern Border."

Ji Qingwu breathed a sigh of relief. For a moment, she’d thought Emperor Wu Su had taken him into custody.

But then she frowned, her gaze flickering with suspicion. "Is it truly an urgent military report?"

’It’s not that I’m being paranoid, but the timing is just too perfect. How could Xijin happen to attack on our wedding night? A military emergency is the only thing that could have pulled Wei Ting away.’

The sharp edge in Emperor Wu Su’s gaze intensified. "I am not yet so foolish," he sneered, "that I would falsify military intelligence over a woman."

’Falsify military intelligence over a woman... What does he mean by that?’

Ji Qingwu didn’t know what he meant.

In her mind, the Emperor had never been one to let personal affairs interfere with the stability of the empire. He was the furthest thing from a foolish ruler.

Ji Qingwu said softly, "Your Majesty is a wise ruler. Of course you wouldn’t."

Emperor Wu Su gazed into her crystal-clear eyes, a desolate flame burning in his own.

"But I no longer wish to be a wise ruler."

She couldn’t yet grasp the full meaning of his words, but she could clearly see the danger in his eyes.

Enduring the pain in her back, she scooted toward the foot of the bed.

Emperor Wu Su allowed her to retreat, the dark glint in his eyes flaring into an open, predatory flame.

Silence enveloped the room. Ji Qingwu was the first to look away, her hand clutching the brocade quilt.

She urged, "It’s late, Your Majesty. You should return to the palace to rest."

Emperor Wu Su’s expression was grim. He had no desire to continue this conversation, his patience wearing thin.

Suddenly, he seized her by the ankle. With a single, powerful tug, he dragged her back and pulled her into his embrace.

He pressed the peanut kernels against her lips.

Emperor Wu Su’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he fought to control his surging emotions.

"Open your mouth."

He held her from behind, his arm clamped around her waist like an iron vise.

Ji Qingwu barely dared to breathe.

She parted her lips slightly, and along with the red-skinned peanut, his fingers pushed into her mouth.

The light in her glistening eyes wavered. She wanted to bite down but didn’t dare. In her hesitation, her teeth only grazed the tip of his finger.

Emperor Wu Su murmured, "If only you were always this obedient."

When he withdrew his hand, Ji Qingwu kept the peanut in her mouth, her tongue tingling. She quickly chewed and swallowed it.

"Is it raw?"

His deep, hoarse voice washed over her ear.

Ji Qingwu’s pupils constricted.

"I am asking you. Is it raw?"

This time, Emperor Wu Su acted. Ji Qingwu heard the sound of fabric ripping near her ear.

He had ripped away the red gauze at her waist.

Her slender waist, which could be spanned by a single hand, had been vaguely concealed by the flimsy fabric. Now, it was completely exposed to the light, her skin glowing with the warm luster of jade.

The Dragon and Phoenix Candle on the bedside stand sputtered.

Ji Qingwu looked up at him, the moisture in her eyes making them sparkle with a crystalline clarity.

Emperor Wu Su lifted her, flinging the brocade quilt aside. The peanuts, longans, and other fruits scattered, rolling across the floor with a series of soft thuds.

The longans no longer pressed into her back. Now, something else did.

He laid her back down on the now-bare mattress.

"Don’t look at me like that, Ah Wu."

The moment his grip loosened, Ji Qingwu scrambled off the bed.

She said, "Does Your Majesty recall? You yourself once told me never to appear before you again."

Emperor Wu Su untied the jade belt at his waist, letting his outer robe fall open.
