Chapter 190: Make Him Irritated

No One’s POV

Lily reached the mansion. After quickly changing back into her clean maid uniform, she walked straight toward her lady’s room. She knew Viella must be waiting for her after the stressful morning. But the moment she reached the wooden door, her boots stepped in something wet.

She looked down. Red blood was slowly seeping out from under the door, staining the hallway carpet.

For the first time in eighteen years, absolute panic showed on Lily’s face. Her heart stopped. Without knocking, she threw the door open and rushed inside.

The sight made her freeze. Not because she’s scared, it’s because she never expected such thing.

Viella was sitting casually on her couch. Below her, two housemaids were kneeling on the floor, trembling violently and sobbing. Next to them lay another maid, motionless on the ground. A single bullet hole was drilled perfectly into the center of her forehead, and a pool of dark blood was spreading across the rug.

And in Viella’s delicate hand was a smoking gun.

Viella looked up and saw her. Her eyes lit up instantly. "Oh, Lily! You’re finally back! Where were you? I have been waiting so long to show you this!"

"My Lady..." Lily’s voice, usually so steady, cracked slightly. She looked from the body on the floor back to the girl she had raised. "What is going on here?"

"Oh, this?" Viella asked, looking down at the dead maid with total indifference. "Nothing much. I was just showing these filthy maids exactly what they deserve." She smiled warmly, as if she had just finished a beautiful drawing instead of a murder.

This was the first time Lily had ever heard Viella use such harsh, cruel words. The sweet, fragile girl who used to cry over scraped knees was gone.

"Look closely, Lily," Viella said, pointing the barrel of the gun toward the dead girl. "I hit her exactly in the middle of her forehead. Didn’t I? Am I not a great shooter now?"

Lily stared at the perfect shot. It was a flawless bullseye. She swallowed the lump in her throat and slowly nodded. "Yes, My Lady. Your aim is perfect."

Hearing Lily’s praise, the other two kneeling maids began to cry even harder, their bodies shaking with terror.

"Please, Lady Calestine!" one of the maids begged, pressing her forehead against the bloody carpet. "Please spare our lives! We are so sorry! We will never say anything again!"

The moment the name Calestine left the maid’s mouth, Viella’s warm smile vanished. Her eyes turned completely cold, resembling her father’s freezing gaze.

She slowly stood up from the couch. She walked over to the crying maid and knelt down in front of her. She took the cold metal barrel of the gun and gently traced it down the maid’s cheek.

"From now on, you will call me Lady Viella," she whispered, her voice quiet. "I am not that weak name my family gave me to mock me. What did I just say? Repeat it."

The maid choked on her own tears, the cold gun pressing hard against her jaw. "La... Lady Viella," she trembled out, barely able to speak. "Please... Lady Viella..."

"Good," Viella smirked, her eyes glowing with a dark satisfaction. "I am a Viella. I am the one you will be afraid to even look at from now on... got it?"

The two maids nodded frantically, their tears mixing with the dust on the floor.

"Now, clean this room and leave!" Viella shouted.

The maids quickly scrambled to their feet. They grabbed the dead body of their coworker by the arms and dragged her out of the room, leaving a long trail of red behind them.

Once the door was shut, Viella turned to Lily, her expression instantly switching back to a bright excitement. "Oh, Lily! It is so fun to use a gun! The fear in their eyes when I pointed it... it felt absolutely amazing."

Lily looked at her young lady. She let out a quiet sigh, but her face showed no judgment. She reached into her apron, pulled out a clean silk handkerchief, and gently took Viella’s small hands. She began to carefully wipe away the tiny splatters of blood and gunpowder from Viella’s fingers.

No matter who her lady became, or how dark her heart turned, Lily was willing to accept her. She would protect this girl from the entire world, even if she had to burn it down.

"Oh, by the way... we are going shopping tomorrow, okay?" Viella said, tilting her head with a sweet smile. "You can take all of my old clothes, or you can just throw them out. My mother was actually right. All those simple dresses will only poke people’s eyes out. I don’t need them anymore."

Lily stopped wiping her hands for a fraction of a second, feeling a wave of surprise. Viella was incredibly possessive of her things; she barely let any other servant touch her closet, let alone take her expensive garments. But now, she was giving them all to Lily. A rare warmth spread through Lily’s chest. Even in her madness, her lady still cherished her above everyone else.

"Thank you, My Lady. I will take good care of them," Lily murmured softly.

Soon, the news of what happened in the bedroom spread like wildfire through the entire mansion. The maids who used to laugh and whisper behind Viella’s back were now completely silent. Every single servant started trembling whenever they walked past Viella in the hallways, bowing their heads low. Nobody dared to say the name "Calestine" ever again.

That evening, it was time for dinner.

Viella and Lily walked into the grand dining hall together. For the past few weeks, Viella had locked herself away, refusing to attend family dinners or public gatherings. But tonight, she walked in with her chin held high, her spine perfectly straight. Lily followed a step behind her.

The massive dining table went dead silent. Mr. Viella, his wife, and Lucian all stopped what they were doing and looked up.

Everyone looked at Viella with completely different eyes tonight. There were no snickers, no whispers, and no harsh, mocking words about her being weak or useless. They had all heard about the perfect bullet hole in the maid’s forehead.

Viella simply smiled at them, taking her seat at the table as if nothing had changed.

Throughout the entire dinner, the dining hall was filled with a heavy silence. Lily stood perfectly still behind Viella’s chair, but she could feel a constant glance burning into her from across the massive table. She slowly looked up, and her dark eyes locked directly into Lucian’s.

For a split second, the image of his rare, genuine smiling face from the alleyway suddenly flashed in her mind. Her brow gave a tiny twitch, and she quietly muttered under her breath, "Annoying."

Across the table, Lucian’s ear suddenly twitched. He frowned, his grip tightening slightly on his silver fork. Why in the world did he feel a sudden chill down his spine? It felt exactly like someone was cursing him to his face, and he had a very strong feeling that the quiet maid standing directly across from him was the culprit. He glared back at her, but Lily’s face had already returned to its usual expressionless stone wall.

After dinner finally ended, the family members began to leave the dining hall one by one.

Viella, who had spent the last few hours dealing with the exhausting adrenaline of her first kill, was far too sleepy and tired to notice anything.

She yawned, rubbing her eyes as she walked out. She was so out of it that she didn’t even notice Lily was not following behind her back to her bedroom.

Lily had intended to follow her lady, but before she could even cross the threshold of the dining hall, a strong hand suddenly grabbed her arm.

With a rough pull, Lucian dragged her into a quiet, dimly lit corner hallway, completely trapping her against the cold wall.

"Did you teach her that?" Lucian demanded, his voice dropping into a low whisper.

Lily stared up at him, entirely unfazed by his sudden aggression. "I do not know what you are referring to, Young Master."

"Don’t play stupid with me!" Lucian snapped, his jaw clenching as he glared down at her. He was a classic tsundere, he absolutely hated showing his true emotions, especially to her.

"My sister. She shot a maid today. A perfect bullseye right between the eyes. I wanted her to stay far away from this family’s disgusting blood and violence. But you... you just stand there like a useless statue, watching her ruin her hands, and you probably smile about it."

"I do not smile," Lily said flatly, her voice entirely icy. "Besides... I do not ever remember the Young Master caring so deeply about Lady Viella."

Lucian stayed silent for a brief moment, his dark eyes flickering with a complicated emotion before his face hardened once again. He let out a harsh scoff, flatly refusing her words. "I don’t care about her. Don’t say stupid things."

"Then why are you so angry?" Lily questioned, tilting her head slightly.

"I just... I just don’t want any more annoying competition in this family," he muttered quickly, turning his gaze away to hide his true protectiveness over his sister. "One useless sister was easy to handle, but a sister who knows how to shoot is just another threat to my position as the heir."

Lily’s eyes narrowed slightly, her mutual dislike for him growing even more. "So you truly only care about your future position as the boss, not your own flesh and blood sister?"

Lucian’s chest rose and fell with a heavy breath. He looked back down at her, his face a mask of cold arrogance. "That... yes. That is exactly right."

Lily gave a dry nod. She didn’t expect anything less from a selfish mafia heir. "Fine then. Let me go," she said calmly as she stared directly into his eyes.

"Before anyone walks down this hallway and mistakenly thinks you have a ’crush’ on me."

She intentionally used the unfamiliar word, pointing it right at him like a weapon.

The word hit him instantly, and Lucian’s face flushed a bright red. He became immediately irritated, his cool facade completely shattering.

"Don’t flatter yourself, Lily!" he hissed, using her actual name instead of his usual mocking titles. His grip on her arm tightened for a brief second before he abruptly let go of her,

stepping back as if he had been burned. "Next time you get yourself caught by a target... I will personally make sure to let Dante pull the trigger."

With that angry threat, he turned and strode away down the dark hallway.

Lily stood in the quiet corridor, staring at his retreating figure, highly annoyed back. For the first time in a very long time, she felt a tiny bit of genuine satisfaction rise in her chest. She honestly still had absolutely no idea what the word "crush" actually meant, but as long as it kept hitting his temper so perfectly, she decided she was definitely going to keep using it.
