Chapter 191: Teasing Him.
No one’s Pov
The very next day, the bright morning sun lit up the city as Lily quietly followed her young lady around the massive luxury shopping mall.
Viella was wearing a beautiful floral dress, her long hair pinned up elegantly. After the dark events of the previous night, she looked completely radiant, as if she hadn’t just held a smoking gun a few hours ago.
"Oh, look at this dress, Lily! And these shoes!" Viella exclaimed happily, moving from one high-end boutique to another. She kept buying whatever caught her eye, and Lily silently carried the growing number of shopping bags behind her.
Suddenly, as they were walking out of a jewelry store, Viella was looking back to talk to Lily and didn’t see where she was going. She bumped right into a tall, broad shoulder.
The man stopped and slowly turned around.
Dante Moretti looked down at the girl who had run into him. The moment his sharp eyes landed on her, Viella’s eyes widened in absolute shock. A bright blush instantly rushed up her cheeks, turning her face completely red.
Standing a step behind her, Lily quickly lowered her head, tilting her chin down so the shadows of the mall lights covered her features. She absolutely did not want him to recognize her voice or her eyes from the restaurant washroom the day before.
"I am so sorry," Viella stammered out, her voice unusually soft and nervous as she clutched her shopping bags tightly.
Dante looked at her flustered face, his expression remaining perfectly calm and cold.
"It is fine, Miss Calestine," he said smoothly. As he spoke the name, his gaze suddenly shifted past Viella, landing directly on Lily. He stared at the silent maid for a long time his eyes narrowing slightly in suspicion, before he casually looked away.
"I will be off then," Dante stated flatly. With a small nod, he walked away down the wide corridor, his professional secretary following closely behind him.
Lily kept her head down, but she carefully watched his retreating back through her eyelashes. She had to make absolutely sure he didn’t turn back or show signs of recognizing her. Her intense gaze lingered on him until he completely vanished into the crowd.
The moment Dante was out of sight, Viella grabbed Lily’s arm, jumping up and down in pure excitement. "Oh my god! Lily! Did you hear that? He actually knows my name! I cannot believe it! He is the exact crush I told you about yesterday morning!"
Lily stayed completely stunned, her mind freezing for a second. This dangerous mafia heir was the person her lady liked?
Seeing Lily’s blank, unblinking stare, Viella stopped jumping and let out a small laugh, hitting her own forehead. "Oh jeez, I completely forgot! You still don’t even know what the word ’crush’ means, do you?"
Viella smiled warmly, finally giving her the long-awaited explanation. "A crush means when you secretly like someone a lot in a romantic way. It means your heart beats incredibly fast whenever they are near you, your face turns bright red, and you constantly think about them all day and night. It basically
means you are totally in love with them!"
The moment the words left Viella’s mouth, Lily’s entire mind went completely blank.
Time seemed to freeze as her memory instantly flashed back to the dark restaurant hallway from yesterday. She vividly remembered the exact moment Lucian had loudly shouted to Dante: "Actually, she has a massive, hopeless crush on me, and I just keep rejecting her... so she’s stalking me."
Lily’s eyes narrowed into an icy glare as the realization finally hit her. Lucian hadn’t just told a random lie to protect her mission. He had told his childhood friend that she, an elite assassin who absolutely detested him, was helplessly, romantically in love with his arrogant self!
A vengeful aura radiated from Lily, completely clenching her fists. Oh, she was definitely going to make the Young Master pay dearly for that humiliating lie.
_______________
As Dante was walking through the crowded mall, his face was a mask of cold concentration. Without slowing down his pace, he spoke in a low voice to the man beside him. "I want full information on that girl who is currently following Miss Calestine."
The personal assistant nodded quickly, pulling out a tablet. "Understood, Sir. I will look into her background immediately."
Behind his professional nod, the assistant was thoroughly confused. First, his boss had suddenly asked for Miss Calestine’s personal family file, and now he wanted a deep investigation into a random maid. What exactly was the dangerous new heir of the Moretti family planning to do with the Viella family?
Meanwhile, after Viella and Lily finally arrived back at the grand mansion, Lily had to leave her lady’s side to report to the main building.
The moment Lily entered the Master’s private office, she instantly noticed another strong presence already in the room.
Lucian stood tall in front of his father’s desk. He turned his head and glared at Lily with a warning look as she walked in. Lily ignored his glare, walking forward until they stood side by side in front of the boss.
Mr. Viella looked up from his paperwork, his old eyes completely ruthless. "You two, I am assigning you a highly important task today. Tonight, there will be a massive underground charity party in the Grand Sapphire Hotel. I want you both to attend the event together, infiltrate the VIP lounge, and permanently eliminate the corrupt politician who is trying to sell our shipping routes."
"Wait, you mean me and her?" Lucian protested instantly, his voice rising in disbelief as he pointed a finger at Lily. "This maid? You want us to work together? Absolutely not!"
"Did you not hear my words clearly, Lucian?" his father said coldly, the air in the room turning to ice.
"But father! Don’t you trust my skills enough to handle this single target by myself? Sending a servant with me is completely ridiculous!"
Lucian argued, his pride severely wounded because he wanted to prove his own worth.
"Do I truly have to repeat my command a second time?" his dad said once again, his voice dropping into a warning.
Lucian’s jaw clenched tightly, and he instantly shut up, knowing better than to push his father’s temper any further.
"You both are dismissed. Prepare for the tonight’s operation," the Master ordered. Lily remained perfectly silent, giving a low, obedient nod of her head before turning to leave the office.
The moment the wooden door clicked closed behind them, isolating them in the quiet hallway, Lucian turned around and blocked her path, trying to regain his pride.
"Don’t flatter yourself too much just because my father is forcing you to work with me tonight," he said cockily, crossing his arms and smirking down at her. "Just stay out of my way and try not to get killed."
Lily didn’t step back. Instead, she took a slow step forward, her dark eyes locking deadly into his with a freezing expression.
"Oh, really?" Lily whispered smoothly, a dangerous glint in her eyes. "Is that because I supposedly have a massive, hopeless crush on you, Young Master?"
Suddenly, Lucian’s cocky, arrogant smile completely froze on his face. His eyes widened in absolute horror as the exact lie he told Dante was thrown right back at his face. The realization that she finally knew the definition of the word hit him like a truck.
His ears and cheeks instantly turned a bright, red color. "You... you crazy... you- !" he stammered wildly, completely losing his cool.
Unable to handle the intense embarrassment, he abruptly turned around and literally ran off down the hallway as fast as his legs could carry him.
Lily stood completely still, watching his retreating back with a cold stare. She mistakenly thought his face had turned bright red purely out of intense anger and rage for being mocked. A small sense of victory filled her chest. The revenge was sweet.
_____________
Soon the night fell.
Lucian and Lily stood in front of the grand hotel entrance. They looked totally different tonight. Lily was dressed in a beautiful, body-fitting dark dress that perfectly defined her slender frame and made her stand out completely.
Lucian wore a flawless suit that showed off his toned chest and shoulders. Since it was a masquerade event, they both wore elegant masks that covered the upper halves of their faces.
Lucian annoyedly let out his hand for her to take, looking away to hide his face. Lily quietly took his arm, even though they both wanted nothing more than to be miles away from each other.
No sooner had they entered the ballroom than they attracted everyone’s attention. Their dangerous aura made people turn their heads instantly.
Before they could even reach the center of the room, a group of wealthy girls flocked over and eagerly dragged Lucian away to join their circle.
Lily didn’t care at all. She smoothly slipped away to a quiet side of the room, keeping a sharp eye out for their political target. From the corner of her eye, she noticed Lucian smiling and talking with the girls, but the exact moment his gaze met hers, he quickly looked away, his ears turning a faint pink beneath his hair.
Meanwhile, Lucian, who was secretly looking at her and hoping she would come save him from the annoying crowd, noticed her completely indifferent, bored gaze.
Tsk, as expected from a cold robot like her, he muttered bitterly under his breath, turning back to the girls.
Suddenly, a strange young man stepped into Lily’s personal space and stood right beside her, holding a wine glass. "Hey, beautiful," he said with a smooth, cocky smile. "Which family do you belong to? I’ve never seen someone as stunning as you here before."
Lily just turned her head and stared at him with blank, completely bored eyes, not saying a single word.
