Chapter 365: Chapter 365: Three Obediences and Four Virtues

Elias Langley was significantly taken aback by her words, his heart inexplicably tight.

Even with memory loss, some latent emotion was still stirred by the words, causing a dull ache in his heart.

Juliana Jacobs looked at his furrowed brow and the expression of wanting to speak but unable to, and couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy.

This man before her, no matter how exasperating, was someone she had once loved wholeheartedly and entrusted her faith to.

Now, with his memory being manipulated, wasn’t he, in a sense, another victim?

So, she softened her tone and asked, "What are you doing here?"

Elias Langley was reminded by her question and finally recalled the main matter.

"I agreed with my brother yesterday that the family would visit Fellcrest Manor today. I won’t allow anyone not to inform you, so... I’ve come to pick you up myself."

He indeed took her yesterday’s words to heart.

"Then let’s go."

Juliana Jacobs picked up the ginger tea on the table and walked out while drinking it.

Raine Kane drove, carrying them slowly toward Fellcrest Manor.

In the spacious backseat, Juliana Jacobs sat a bit far from Elias Langley, and once in the car, neither spoke, creating a delicate stillness within.

Shortly after, the car ascended onto the highway.

Elias Langley took out a food container from the cooler by his side.

Inside were several pieces of glistening yam and red date cakes, adorned with osmanthus and goji berries, still steaming.

"Here, I got these from Sylanis," he handed the food container toward Juliana Jacobs, "Secretary York said their pastries are fresh and not greasy."

Juliana Jacobs was sipping ginger tea when a sweet aroma drifted through the car, her eyes landing on the intricate pastries, showing a hint of surprise.

Lately, she’d become increasingly sensitive to grease, and the date cake’s scent was quite pleasant.

So she reached out, picked up a small piece, and tasted it—the flavor was indeed delightful.

The yam mixed with sweet date paste was delicate and smooth, perfectly soothing her unsettled stomach due to morning sickness.

After a few bites, she suddenly realized something and looked up at Elias Langley, her gaze probing.

"Is my aversion to greasy food that obvious?"

Elias Langley looked at her, his lips curving slightly in a smile—not one of distant politeness, but nearly a warm teasing one.

"I didn’t see it; I felt it."

He raised his hand to wipe away the crumbs at her mouth corner, leaned closer, and softly said to her, "Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone about your picky eating."

Juliana Jacobs was slightly stunned.

A strange ripple crossed her heart.

The amnesiac Elias Langley, with this awkward consideration, was somewhat endearing.

Perhaps due to the ginger tea, she unexpectedly finished all the date cake in a short time.

Elias Langley was startled by her appetite.

He looked at the empty food container, surprised, "You ate it all? Didn’t leave even one for me?"

Juliana Jacobs licked the sweet residue on her fingers, her brows slightly raised.

"Complaining I ate a lot? Eating more doesn’t mean you have to support me; how much do I owe you?"

The words, half-joking, half-sarcastic, gradually erased the feigned surprise from Elias Langley’s face.

He gazed out the window, eyes deep.

"I... won’t always be like this."

Juliana Jacobs opened her mouth but eventually didn’t respond.

How could she respond?

Though he seemed like a considerate husband now, once faced with Iris Paxton, his drug-controlled mind and the so-called responsibility bound by "commitment" would prevail, instantly forgetting the warmth of the moment, perhaps even turning to protect those "he’s responsible for."

Though she knew he was trying to amuse her, she still couldn’t respond to those words.

The trip, supposed to take 40 minutes, eventually stretched to an hour and a half.

Raine Kane drove steadily, especially on the highway, at a slow pace almost causing the cars behind to sound the alarm.

And Elias Langley, among the most patient types, didn’t urge once.

Upon arriving at Fellcrest Manor, Iris Paxton had already been led by Victor Langley through several activities.

At the moment, the group sat in the resting area by the horse track, "waiting" for the two of them.

Seeing their approach, Iris Paxton immediately wore a bright smile, quickly moving toward Elias Langley.

Once again ignoring Juliana Jacobs’s presence, she reached out, trying to loop her arm around Elias Langley’s.

"Elias, you’re finally here. Got stuck in traffic? I was worried maybe President Jacobs didn’t want to come and caused the delay."

Her words appeared caring but were meant to blame Juliana Jacob for dampening everyone’s spirits.

But just as her hand was about to touch Elias Langley’s arm, he naturally shifted his body, avoiding her touch and walking directly to the sitting area.

Iris Paxton’s hand awkwardly hung in the air, her heart sinking suddenly.

What’s going on?

Is the drug effect wearing off, or is the dosage insufficient?

Suppressing her shock, she went over again, speaking only loud enough for the two of them, with a concerned probing tone, "Elias, I couldn’t find the used syringe in your study the next day after reminding you to reload that night. Did you medicate yourself?"

"I injected it and disposed of the waste. However... do you want me to increase the dosage?"

Iris Paxton’s heart skipped a beat, then immediately smiled, "I’m worried the dosage is inadequate; you’ll get headaches again. You know how unbearable your headaches are..."

She softened her voice, imbued with a tender heartache.

Elias Langley didn’t respond, sitting down at the table.

Meanwhile, Jared Langley stood to give up his seat to Juliana Jacobs seeing her approach.

Victor Langley was disgruntled by his son’s behavior but said nothing, instead turning to Elias Langley, "Look how considerate Iris is, always mindful of your health, such a thoughtful gesture!"

After speaking, his tone changed, face turning stern, directly targeting Juliana Jacobs, who had just sat down.

"Do you realize what time it is? Because of you alone, everyone’s been waiting around here!"

Juliana Jacobs slightly raised an eyebrow, her tone indifferent, "Did I ask you to wait? Such filial piety, are you my son?"

Elias Langley, just picking up a bottle of water, a flash of amazement crossed his eyes at her words, then quietly faded away.

Victor Langley was left speechless, his face flushed, "You... don’t you know what etiquette is!"

Juliana Jacobs calmly looked at him.

"Haven’t I done enough? Never initiating things, never gentle, never polite. Unbeatable, unscoldable, unspeakable, untouchable. Tell me, which one have I not complied with?"
