Chapter 364: Chapter 364: What, Am I Not Allowed to Touch You Anymore?
Juliana took a deep breath, "He’s incoherent right now, not sure if he’s friend or foe, let’s be cautious."
She paused for just two seconds and then added, "I’ve always suspected Nathan Carter of having issues, and indeed, in order to overthrow Dylan Paxton, this stumbling block must be removed. I need to play chess with Dylan Paxton, and to avoid distractions, Victor Langley mustn’t stay in Kingsford; we have to find a way to send him back to Kenton, and then Auntie Linton and Adrian will handle him."
Mrs. Sinclair stood aside, her gaze never leaving her daughter’s face.
Seeing Juliana’s calm and wise deployment, she was overcome with mixed emotions.
Comforted by her maturity in handling things on her own now, yet it stirred a dense and genuine feeling of pity and guilt for her challenging solitary growth over the past ten years.
When the IV drip was finished, the person in charge brought the packaged injection medication.
"The dosage, color, and packaging are identical to the original, but inside it’s a biological agent for repairing nerves; at this season, it doesn’t require strict storage temperatures, hoping it’s useful to the victim."
Juliana received it, holding it carefully in her hands, "Thank you, Dr. Linton."
The person in charge smiled at her, "You’re welcome. It’s your mom who promoted me, allowing me to gain a little fame in the circle, so these small matters are not worth mentioning."
Juliana glanced at Mrs. Sinclair, but ultimately did not say anything more to her and left.
Once she got into the car, she instructed Raine Kane to secretly return the medication to its original place, while she went to The Innovation Hub.
At noon, Caleb Donovan quietly delivered the lunch Mrs. Sinclair had prepared, without appearing, and asked Raine to pass it on.
Juliana took a few bites and her stomach churned, prompting her to run to the restroom immediately.
When she emerged, she discovered two more people in the office.
Evan sat on the couch, flipping through Aetherflame’s new brochure with great interest.
While Raine stood aside, staring at him expressionlessly.
On the table, there was a cup of ginger tea that she instructed Raine to buy.
Upon hearing movement, both turned their gaze to her.
Juliana lowered her eyes and walked over.
"Juliana," Raine spoke first, "He... insisted on barging in."
However, Juliana only replied calmly, "Mm, I know. You go out first."
Raine nodded, tidied up the meal boxes on the table, and retreated.
Evan chuckled lightly, "This assistant of yours is quite loyal."
Juliana sat down in the single-seater sofa next to him.
"If she really wanted to stop you, you wouldn’t get in."
Evan put the brochure aside, his deep eyes falling on her somewhat pale face.
"Your complexion doesn’t look good, where are you feeling unwell?"
"Chairman Grant, isn’t this a rhetorical question? Where in here could I ever keep secrets from you?"
Evan laughed softly, suddenly looking at her shoes.
"I remember you used to love wearing high heels. Why are you wearing flats now? Have you stopped caring about height, or is there another reason?"
Juliana looked elsewhere, showing a lack of patience.
"If Chairman Grant has official business, please speak directly. I have engagements tonight and need to busy myself."
Not wishing to disclose more, Evan withdrew his playful expression.
"Juliana, I never promised to marry Stella Windsor, and... besides you, I haven’t been involved with any other woman. Looking at Elias Langley’s situation, he is bound to marry Ingrid Pemberton, otherwise, Dylan Paxton won’t let him go. If you truly want what’s best for yourself, you should voluntarily give him up."
Juliana subtly curled her lips, "Chairman Grant truly loves gossiping about other people’s marital affairs, already a former husband, pay less attention to it. You’re well-informed, let me ask you about someone, Master Carter of The Zenthian Sea Kenshida, do you know him?"
Evan raised an eyebrow slightly, "I have some business dealings with the Carter Family, I’m quite familiar with The Carters."
"Then have you met Nathan Carter in person?"
Evan’s gaze flickered for a moment, a playful curve appearing at the corner of his mouth.
"Is this your attitude in probing information?"
Juliana turned her head, "Answer if you want."
Evan stood up, walked to her, and looked at her from a higher stance.
"Clearly capable of getting anything you want from me; is it so hard to just beckon with your finger?"
Juliana chuckled lightly and continued to avoid looking at him, saying, "The capable one is your missing half-sister, not me."
Evan was stunned, then a knowing pleasure swept through his eyes.
He leaned over, one hand resting on the wide armrest of the single sofa, half encircling her between himself and the sofa, drawing the distance suddenly closer, his warm breath almost brushing her earlobe.
"So Stella Windsor has always been the thorn in your heart; only when this thorn completely disappears will you let go of our past, right?"
Realizing he misunderstood, Juliana’s body stiffened slightly, but she had another goal, not pushing him away.
"How much do you know about Master Carter?"
Evan laughed by her ear, "Master Carter is indeed mysterious; I haven’t seen him in person. Rumor has it he’s rarely seen due to congenital deficiencies and being frail and sickly. He invited me last time, but I didn’t go. But if you’re willing to pay a bit of price, I could..."
Juliana felt the male scent of cologne mixed with tobacco surrounding her; her stomach churned again.
Before he finished speaking, she raised her hand to cover her mouth and nose, letting out a slight dry heave.
Evan paused mid-sentence.
"What’s really wrong with you?"
As he said this, he reached out to remove her hand covering her mouth.
At this moment, the office door was suddenly pushed open, Elias Langley’s figure appeared at the door.
The two on the sofa were momentarily stunned.
Evan slightly narrowed his eyes, calmly straightened up, and raised his chin a bit, looking at him.
"I hear Mr. Langley is sick; do you still remember me?"
Elias Langley plainly saw how close the two were talking.
At this moment, he strode in, his face solemn.
"Whether I remember you or not, it doesn’t excuse your overstepping. She is my wife and doesn’t need such intimate concern from you."
As he moved closer, Juliana also stood up from the single-seater, but being pregnant, she rose slowly.
Thus, once she steadied herself, Elias Langley pulled her into his arms.
A sudden scare is most forbidden for a pregnant woman; she bumped into his chest, letting out a dissatisfied "tsk."
Elias Langley’s face, initially confident, peculiarly softened.
What, not even allowed to touch anymore?
Seeing this unfold, Evan couldn’t suppress a chuckle.
"Mr. Langley doesn’t need to act in front of me. In Kingsford’s circle of nobility, who doesn’t know you’re about to become the Paxton family’s golden son-in-law? Let Juliana go. Stop hurting her emotionally."
Elias Langley’s gaze suddenly turned cold.
But Evan didn’t look at him, instead, his gaze softened, turning to Juliana.
"I’ll help you gather information on the person you’re curious about. If needed, let me know promptly—no strings attached."
This time, Juliana didn’t cast a hostile glance at him, simply responded softly, "Okay."
Indeed, a woman knowing when to show vulnerability is truly the one who can control the situation.
Evan was highly satisfied with her accommodating response and turned to leave.
Elias Langley’s hand was still resting on Juliana’s arm, the discomfort swirling within his chest since pushing the door open became even more intense.
He looked down at her, his tone carrying a warm exasperation.
"He has improper intentions towards you, yet you ask him for help? What are you thinking?"
Juliana withdrew from his embrace, naturally removing his hand.
"He’s my ex-husband, what’s wrong with chatting about some normal things?"
Elias Langley frowned, "Normal matters can lead him to confine you on the sofa?"
Juliana looked mocking, "Am I only permitted to have intimacy discussions and marriage talks with Iris Paxton, not allowed to have normal social interactions with men?"
Elias Langley, seemingly losing the confidence of a legitimate husband from her words, furrowed his brow deeper.
"He seems to have a hint of evilness; it’s best not to trust him. If you need anything, you can tell me..."
"Elias Langley," Juliana leisurely interrupted him, "Can I still rely on you now?"
