Chapter 363: Chapter 363: Whether You Can Take It or Not, You’ll Have to Endure It
Those two words were like a faint electric current, unexpectedly striking the back of Juliana Jacobs.
Her wrist, caught in his grip, trembled slightly.
She slowly turned around, her gaze complex as she looked at the man half-leaning on the couch, his eyes unfocused.
The once sharp and deep eyes now clouded, trying hard to focus on her face, yet clearly powerless.
This state clearly showed he wasn’t quite sober.
Once sober, wouldn’t everything just return to the old ways?
With this thought, the turbulent waves in Juliana’s heart gradually calmed down.
"Elias Langley," her voice was devoid of warmth, "Are we so close now that you can call me that?"
Elias looked up at her, his lips moved slightly as if trying to say something, but his mind was full of fragmented, conflicting pieces. He knew every piece was related to her, but he just couldn’t see clearly.
Juliana waited for half a minute, but no answer came, so she withdrew her hand from his grasp.
"It was wrong of me to break your medication yesterday. But that’s just how I am. Until we decide whether to divorce, you’ll have to put up with it."
With that, she walked towards the study’s exit.
"Don’t...don’t go..."
But the only reply to Elias was the sound of the door closing.
The next day, Juliana didn’t want to see how he cared about Iris Paxton once he woke up, so she left early in the morning.
Elias came to the dining hall, neither Juliana nor Iris was in sight.
He looked at the sumptuous breakfast on the table, paused for a moment, then turned to the butler standing beside him.
"Where’s Madam?" he asked.
The butler, seeing he asked about Juliana, seemed to show a gratified expression.
"Madam said something urgent came up at the company and left early in the morning."
Elias furrowed his brow, "That busy?"
The butler stepped forward to serve him porridge.
"This is ’Scallop and Lily Bulb with Chicken Porridge’ specially ordered by Madam before she left. She said you drank last night, so you should have something light to protect your liver. She left in a hurry, so I didn’t have time to tell her you and Chairman Langley’s family will be going to Fellcrest Manor this afternoon. Would you like to call her yourself?"
Elias thought for two seconds, just about to speak.
"Elias..."
Iris Paxton appeared at the entrance of the dining hall.
...
At this moment, in the Chairman’s office of Nivoria Biotech.
Juliana finished the last bite of her breakfast before someone came to administer an IV drip.
Mrs. Sinclair tried to help her lie down, but Juliana waved her hand from the lounge chair, adjusted the cushion herself, and pulled over a light blanket.
Her actions communicated she needed no care from anyone.
Mrs. Sinclair was long used to her imperceptible rejections.
She was pregnant now, and no one else knew. She reckoned the food on Darroway Street wouldn’t suit her taste, so she asked warmly, "I specially consulted a nutritionist to prepare this for you. Does it suit your taste? If you like it, I can make it for you every day and send someone to deliver it to your company."
The breakfast was indeed delicious, and after eating, she didn’t experience any pregnancy nausea. Juliana’s appetite opened up, and she finished the whole meal.
But to Mrs. Sinclair’s kindness, her response remained indifferent.
"No need," she reclined in the chair, slowly closing her eyes, "Our relationship isn’t public. A little ’distance’ is good for everyone."
Mrs. Sinclair felt a sourness welling up inside.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Mrs. Sinclair pressed the remote.
The door opened, and the head of the Precision Medicine Center walked in.
"President Jacobs, the analysis results of the drug sample you sent the day before yesterday are out, please check your email."
Juliana took out her phone.
"This is an extremely advanced neural modulator, or more accurately, a ’memory intervention biological agent.’ It influences specific neurotransmitters and synaptic plasticity, aimfully inhibiting or disturbing the retrieval and consolidation of long-term memory, thus artificially creating ’amnesia’ or ’memory confusion’."
Juliana’s eyelashes fluttered slightly.
Just as she suspected, the problem was with the drug.
The head continued, "This drug is extremely harmful to the nerves. If used long-term or in excess, it may lead to permanent memory loss or even cognitive decline."
The fingers gripping Juliana’s phone turned slightly pale.
Elias was missing for a month in their hands, using the drug for such a long time. Could his memory still be recovered?
"However...we discovered an extremely hidden ’biological marker’ in a special catalytic enzyme of the compound. This marker carries a specific laboratory’s ’genetic signature,’ akin to encrypted batch production info. The lab’s name is ’Zenthar.’"
Mrs. Sinclair frowned, "’Zenthar’ is a core secret laboratory under The Zenthian Sea Kenshida Biotech. Developing this drug, in any country, is outright illegal."
The Zenthian Sea Kenshida...Carter Family, Nathan Carter.
Juliana’s gaze suddenly became sharp.
From the incident with Elias until now, this person had remained silent, almost fading from her view.
But once all clues were connected, it was evident Dylan Paxton placing Iris by his side was with absolute confidence.
The third force on the high seas probably had ties to Nathan Carter as well.
Perhaps, leading Elias and Sean Paxton to the high seas was a plot jointly devised by Dylan and Nathan Carter.
Juliana shuddered at the thought.
Luckily, after obtaining the evidence against Dylan, she didn’t impulsively choose to report him.
Otherwise, not only could she not bring him down, but she’d also give him a chance to destroy evidence.
She immediately sent a message with her phone.
Not long after, Raine Kane walked in.
"Juliana," she held a specially made box, inside was a syringe, "This was found in a hidden compartment of Iris’s luggage, there were six in total; I only took one."
"Won’t she notice if you took one?" Juliana asked.
Raine smiled shrewdly, "She’s busy hanging around Mr. Langley now, having no time to return to her room."
Without any change in expression, Juliana withdrew her gaze and looked at the person in charge beside her.
"Is there a way to find identical bottles and replace the contents with nutrient solution?"
The head picked up the syringe and examined it, "No problem, we have plenty of this model in storage."
Juliana nodded, "Please make six for me immediately."
The head nodded and promptly arranged it.
"Juliana, both the syringe and Iris are problematic. Aren’t you going to let Mr. Langley know?"
