Chapter 362: Chapter 362: Am I Interrupting?
Juliana put on a coat and walked to the study door.
She happened to see Victor Langley emerging with a triumphant smile on his face.
Victor Langley hadn’t expected to see her at this hour; he turned around after closing the door and was greatly startled.
But he quickly regained his composure.
"Sister-in-law, Elias is fine, he just had a couple of drinks, he’ll be okay after sleeping it off."
Juliana furrowed her brows, "You know he’s sick, but you still gave him alcohol?"
Victor Langley looked indifferent, "He won’t recover from his amnesia anytime soon. He used to have a good tolerance for alcohol, this little bit won’t affect his health."
"I think you’re hoping for something to happen to him."
Juliana said this and was about to enter the study.
Victor Langley blocked her way.
"What do you mean by that? He’s my brother, would I wish something happened to him? But you..."
He looked Juliana up and down.
"With Elias in his current state, he needs stronger support. Iris was deliberately placed by Old Mr. Paxton to be close to him, with the intention of drawing him in. If you truly care about him and the Langley Family, you should be sensible and step back, give up the position of the wife. If you can’t bear to part with him, Elias is a sentimental person, being his mistress, he still wouldn’t treat you poorly."
Juliana’s lips curled into a faint arc, her gaze cold as ice.
"Chairman Langley never ceases to worry about the Langley Family, if you could sell yourself, you’d probably be willing to warm Old Mr. Paxton’s bed. What’s the matter? Is your business in Kenton about to go bankrupt, so now you’re here selling your brother?"
Victor Langley was choked by her straightforward and biting sarcasm, his face turned ashen, and he retorted angrily: "You, a woman with unknown parentage, what can you bring to Elias? The special equipment admission permit you schemed for a few days ago has been denied by the higher-ups, proving nobody wants those things you’re dabbling in. What airs are you putting on with me here?"
Juliana, knowing Iris was inside, disdainfully refrained from arguing with him and directly called for the bodyguard.
The bodyguard captain, recently replaced, held Juliana in high regard and immediately surrounded Victor Langley.
"What are you doing?" Victor Langley was shocked by her attitude towards him.
Juliana’s voice was calm, giving no hint of her feelings.
"Give Chairman Langley two choices: first, I’ll arrange for someone to take Chairman Langley to the airport, leaving immediately. Second, Chairman Langley leaves this house on his own."
Victor Langley, infuriated, laughed: "This is my brother’s house! I’m his elder brother! What right do you, an outsider, have to kick me out?"
Juliana raised an eyebrow, "I am the mistress of this house. Tell me, do I have the right?"
The commotion was large enough to alert many people.
Steward Fay approached just in time to hear Victor Langley questioning Juliana’s authority and quickly stepped forward, saying, "The master had given explicit instructions previously, that if he was unable to manage affairs for any reason, all matters inside and outside the home were to be handled solely by the mistress. We... only listen to the mistress."
Victor Langley hadn’t expected Elias Langley to have such arrangements, being dumbstruck.
At this moment, Jared Langley hurried over upon hearing the news and upon seeing the situation, he knew his father had acted improperly.
"Dad, this is Uncle’s house, you brothers have always taken care of your respective families. Even though Uncle has lost his memory, Aunt is still here, you really don’t need to lower yourself."
Victor Langley looked at his son who always sided with outsiders, accumulated anger exploded on him.
"Jared, whose son are you? She married your uncle, are you still pining for him?"
Jared Langley’s face instantly turned gloomy, "Dad, what are you talking about? I’m just stating facts, I don’t want you to be stubbornly wrong."
The father and son confronted each other in the corridor outside the study, the atmosphere tense and confrontation imminent.
Meanwhile, inside the study.
Iris Paxton saw Elias Langley was uncomfortable, so she fetched a basin of water, sat at the bedside, and reached to unbutton his shirt.
But Elias Langley grabbed her wrist.
"Put it down, I’ll do it myself."
He struggled to sit up, Iris Paxton quickly put down the towel to help him.
"Elias, you don’t have to keep me at a distance."
Iris Paxton was somewhat emotional.
"Rescuing you on the high seas was destiny between us, my decision to come back with you was firm in wanting to be your woman. No matter what happens in the future, I won’t regret it, let me take care of you tonight."
Having said it to this point, something should happen next.
So she started to remove her undershirt.
"No!"
Elias Langley quickly stopped her hand.
At this moment, the study door opened.
Before he could withdraw his hand, Juliana already walked to the door of the resting area.
Seeing the two so reluctant to part, she raised an eyebrow slightly, "Am I interrupting?"
"No..." Elias Langley frowned and withdrew his hand.
Iris Paxton couldn’t understand how Victor Langley hadn’t managed to stop her, quickly stood up.
"You’re mistaken, Elias had a bit to drink and isn’t feeling well, so I..."
"You know he’s sick now, and you still let him drink, were you planning to wait until he’s drunk to do something? To achieve your own desires, you harm his body, isn’t that malicious?"
Iris was choked pale by her words, standing there somewhat at a loss.
"Miss Paxton," Juliana sat down at Elias Langley’s bedside, looking at her with a half-smile, "You’re fully aware of your strengths, so you always play the victim in front of me. Your appearance is like a treasure to men. But in front of me, in my house, seducing my husband, that’s not what you call pathetic innocence."
The hint of a fake smile on Juliana’s face swiftly chilled, her eyes growing cold.
"This is called shamelessness, do you know how to write these four characters?"
Iris’s nose turned sour, she burst into tears.
But Juliana evidently had lost patience, she called out "Steward Fay" towards the outside.
Steward Fay responded to her call, walking briskly inside.
Just at the door of the resting area, he nodded towards Juliana: "Madam, Chairman Langley went to stay at a hotel on his own. Mrs. Langley and the two young masters went with him."
Juliana, indifferent, instructed, "This Miss Paxton, didn’t learn enough from the maids before, now you take her downstairs, have someone teach her some manners, without regard for daybreak, until she understands thoroughly."
"Yes, I’ll contact two professional etiquette instructors to come over, before Miss Paxton really recognizes her problems, the course will not end."
Steward Fay responded neatly and decisively.
Iris realized that Elias Langley was indifferent to her and his brother’s plight, the last shred of hope in her heart vanished, in the current situation, she couldn’t rely on the Paxton Family’s power to fight with the female lead over jealousy, thus she followed Steward Fay quietly out.
However, her mind was far from calm.
She had just drugged Elias Langley yesterday, the doctor said he should be getting closer and more reliant on her, why today was still leaning towards Juliana?
Maybe she ought to increase the dosage all at once?
Steward Fay closed the door of the study.
Juliana saw a basin of water nearby, so she stood up to wring the towel.
"Do you have no idea about your physical condition? They let you drink and you drank, can you handle alcohol now?"
Elias Langley took the towel and started to wipe his face.
His body was in discomfort.
Chaos brought by alcohol and the restraint efforts of drugs fiercely battled within his body, while deep inside, pieces of his innate consciousness struggled to surge forward in the gaps of relaxed nerves.
He relied on his will several times to maintain stability, allowing himself to become somewhat clear-headed.
"Family banquet, I didn’t leave you out."
He finished wiping his face and returned the towel to Juliana.
"I instructed Steward Fay to call you, but elder brother said he already informed you and you were on your way to Aethelgard. I didn’t think much at the time... I should have personally come to get you, I’m sorry."
Juliana paused in her hands wringing the towel.
The words "I’m sorry," only the previous Elias Langley would say to her.
Now, in this state of his... he couldn’t have regained his memory with just a few drinks, could he?
Juliana felt she almost became naïve, so she placed the towel back into the water basin, her face expressionless.
"What I said to Iris Paxton tonight wasn’t in anger, it was a fair assessment of her. Although you’ve lost your memory, I hope you don’t lose your senses. Even if you no longer favor me, I hope you make correct choices. If you’re still feeling up to it, get up and take a shower before sleeping, don’t drink again."
With that said, she turned to leave.
"Juliana..."
Elias Langley suddenly grasped her wrist.
