Chapter 361: Chapter 361: The Overbearing Oppression of a Long-Reigning Superior Returns

While she was deep in thought, Elias Langley had already started shelling the crab.

Juliana Jacobs found him so obedient that she took out the "Marital Conduct Constraint Commitment" he had signed from her bag.

Next to the first item, she drew an "×".

Elias glanced at it, his expression calm, and asked in a voice only the two of them could hear, "What did I do?"

Juliana put away the commitment and turned her head to look at the man’s cool profile.

"Did you notify me about the family banquet?"

Elias’ hand paused while shelling the crab.

"I... I forgot your phone number."

Juliana let out a snicker, "If I hadn’t come, were you planning to discuss having children with Iris Paxton as your wife?"

"No."

Elias placed the shelled crab meat in front of her.

"I said that I wouldn’t make any decisions until I figured things out."

"Afraid of being called irresponsible for sleeping with her?"

Elias frowned slightly, "Things I’ve explained, I won’t explain again."

Juliana stopped looking at him and gestured to the waiter standing by the door.

The waiter approached and bowed.

"Please," Juliana handed him the small bowl of crab meat, "go feed it to the dogs."

Elias’ face turned cold.

He was about to get angry, but then Juliana stood up.

"Seeing these untimely people and things here really ruins the appetite."

Her cold gaze swept across Elias’ face and finally landed on Victor Langley.

"Chairman Langley went to great lengths to arrange this scene, which reminds me of the pomp and circumstance the Madam put on when ’grooming’ the leading girl at the old brothel. Prepare the rooms, invite the patrons, only concerned about arranging ’good things’, not caring whether there’s a legitimate wife at home."

The anger Victor Langley had accumulated all night exploded as he slammed the table and stood up.

Elias stood up just 0.01 seconds slower, but faster in action.

The chair behind him was knocked over with a loud crash as he swiftly pulled Juliana into his embrace.

Elias fixed Victor Langley with a cold stare, the heavy pressure of someone long used to power returning, giving the impression he had regained his memory.

For a moment, the private room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

Victor Langley’s words of reprimand got stuck in his throat, replaced by an incredulous shock on his face.

Iris Paxton was also extremely bewildered, a storm raging in her heart.

Wasn’t he supposed to be deeply influenced?

The drugs should have suppressed his deep emotions and autonomous judgment, how could he still have such instinctive and swift protective reactions?

Rosalind Linton quickly spoke in a gentle voice to smooth things over.

"Victor, you’ve always been steady and courteous. Did you drink too much today? Sit down, don’t lose your composure."

Her words gave Victor Langley a perfect way out.

The shrewd Victor Langley immediately followed her lead, forcing a stiff smile and awkwardly saying, "Right... I got carried away today, drank a bit too much, feeling drunk."

With that, he sat back down in his chair, avoiding Elias’ gaze.

Juliana noticed Elias, though angry, had slightly dazed eyes, and the emotion that had surged in her heart quickly subsided.

She calmly retreated from his embrace.

"Since that’s the case, there’s no need for me to have dinner with everyone, enjoy."

With that, she turned to leave.

Adrian Langley wanted to get up but was held down by Rosalind Linton.

At that moment, Jared Langley, who was sitting with his back to the door, stood up and wiped his mouth.

"Just right, I’m done too. I’ll leave with Aunt, enjoy."

Seeing Jared Langley leaving with Juliana, Victor Langley showed a hint of displeasure in his eyes.

The car drove smoothly through the night.

Inside the car, it was quiet.

Jared Langley glanced at the rearview mirror, Raine Kane was driving silently behind them.

"Actually, Uncle is very concerned about you," he said.

Juliana remained silent.

Jared continued, "Just now, my father’s aggression toward you seemed to trigger Uncle’s subconscious protective instincts for you. I feel... there’s something strange about his amnesia."

The flowing scenery outside the car window passed by Juliana’s expressionless face.

She didn’t respond to the topic about Elias but instead said, "Old Mr. Donovan retired but remained active, and for years, the influence still lingers. But beneath, discontent has long been simmering, and though the Paxton Family appears flourishing, Sean Paxton’s death speaks volumes. The Paxton Family tree is no longer a place of refuge."

With that, she turned to look at Jared Langley.

"You’re younger than Chairman Langley and more observant. You should know the fate Isaac Grant faced after relying on Old Mr. Paxton. It hasn’t been easy for Blackstar Technologies to reach this point; if it hits a reef and sinks, Kenton’s first family is likely to change hands again."

Jared understood her meaning.

She was hinting that the foundation of the Paxton Family was decaying, and the edifice was crumbling. His father’s current eagerness to cling to them was not only self-degrading but also tying Blackstar’s future to a doomed ship. His father’s "old-fashioned" approach would eventually implicate the entire Langley Family.

Jared tightly gripped the steering wheel, looking ahead, a thoughtful expression on his brow...

Late at night, the dinner party ended.

Elias was heavily intoxicated and was taken to the study by Victor Langley and Iris Paxton.

After laying him on the bed, Victor Langley didn’t leave immediately.

Instead, he watched Iris Paxton giving Elias a blanket and said subtly, "My brother may have amnesia, but he’s very deeply emotional and responsible. If something tangible presents itself to him, he won’t mistreat the other party. With consummated circumstances, many problems naturally become resolved."

Iris understood his hint, her face instantly blushing.

In fact, she also wanted to take advantage of Elias’ drunkenness to cause something to happen between them, making him favor her when dealing with conflicts with Juliana.

However, Victor Langley’s proactive persuasion made her become reserved.

"How could I? I’m not that kind of woman."

Victor Langley’s smile deepened, carrying an uncomfortable sense of calculation.

"Precisely because you’re a good woman, that’s why I say this. If Elias can be with you, the Paxton Family will regard you highly, and the road for the Langley Family will be broader. You’re simply a match made in heaven. Seize the opportunity; I’ll stand guard outside and testify for you tomorrow."

Outside the study, Adrian Langley had held in his anger all night, wanting to rush in several times, but his mother held him back.

"Mom, let me go! Didn’t you hear the nonsense Dad was talking? He wants to align with the Paxton Family, what does he take Juliana for?"

However, Rosalind Linton was very clear-headed, "Rush in, and then what? Tear apart with your father in front of everyone? Iris will still remain by Elias’ side; what can you change?"

Adrian calmed down because of his mother’s words.

Rosalind Linton pulled him back to the room, saying, "If you want Juliana happy, tackle the root cause, thoroughly deal with those who upset her, that’s the right way. If you can’t keep calm even for this, how will you handle big matters in the future?"

Adrian’s anger extinguished, replaced by a rising chill in his heart.

"I will make Victor Langley live a life worse than death."

"It’s good to have that ambition. Leave it to me here, and you stay in your room and reflect."

Rosalind Linton pushed him into the room and closed the door for him.

She then looked around.

The quiet nighttime corridor was devoid of even a ghostly figure.

Tiptoeing to Juliana’s main bedroom door, she slammed the door forcefully before quickly running away.

Awakened by the sudden banging, Juliana sat up, catching her breath to relieve the discomfort in her abdomen.

She puzzledly got up and went to open the door.

The front yard was serene in the breeze, only Elias’ study still had its lights on.
