Chapter 351: Chapter 351: Florence Sinclair Agonized for Hours Before Dying
Juliana Jacobs stumbled, nearly falling.
Raine Kane quickly supported her.
"Juliana, there are currently over a dozen rescue boats searching the sea. Good news might arrive soon, you need to hold it together."
Yes, she must steady her mind and handle everything calmly now.
Juliana quickly suppressed the storm surging in her eyes and instructed Raine Kane, "Find a way to sneak this box out without anyone noticing."
...
However, after searching the international waters for a whole day, the rescue team failed to find the two people.
On the fourth day, Sean Paxton’s bloated body washed ashore, yet Elias Langley was still missing.
Dylan Paxton pulled strings again, suppressing the situation with no word leaking to the outside.
But Caleb Donovan only managed to bring back Florence Sinclair.
After hours of emergency care, Florence Sinclair was still declared critically ill.
Upon receiving Caleb Donovan’s call, Juliana Jacobs rushed to the hospital.
Outside the ICU, Caleb Donovan’s men stood on both sides.
Seeing Juliana, his face bore wounds, but he lowered his head, his voice hoarse, "I’m sorry, ma’am, it was my failure to protect Mr. Langley."
Juliana closed her eyes, regaining her emotions, and responded, "No news is good news."
She turned her gaze towards the ICU, "How is she?"
Caleb Donovan lowered his voice, "Severe lung damage, gastrointestinal perforation and necrosis. The doctor said the probability of surviving the critical period is less than thirty percent."
Juliana felt indifferent to Florence Sinclair’s fate.
But Caleb Donovan stepped forward, lowering his voice again, "When we caught up with Sean Paxton’s ship, the scene was suspicious. Apart from us and Sean Paxton’s men, there was a third party lying in ambush in the sea. The firepower was heavy, and the intent was clear — to kill Mr. Langley and Sean Paxton."
Juliana’s eyes darkened, "Was it Dylan Paxton or Nathan Carter?"
Caleb Donovan shook his head, "Without solid evidence, we can’t jump to conclusions."
At that moment, Juliana’s phone vibrated.
She glanced at the screen; it was Caleb Shaw calling.
Picking up the call, she heard Caleb Shaw’s urgent voice on the other end.
"Your ’Special Equipment and Access Permit’ application was rejected. The rejection reason is vague; it’s likely due to pressure from higher-ups, the process has been choked."
Juliana’s fingers holding the phone slightly tightened.
This permit was a national-level identity and protection she deserved as a core researcher, just like her father. Hence, Dylan Paxton hadn’t taken immediate action against her after returning.
Now, with the forced rejection of this application, it meant that if Dylan Paxton acted against her now, the repercussions on the legal and public fronts wouldn’t be as severe as an ’attack on a classified researcher’.
It was clear the third force that appeared on the high seas must have been orchestrated by Dylan Paxton.
It seemed Dylan Paxton was prepared to make a move against her.
"What should we do, Juliana? Should we keep applying?" Caleb Shaw asked over the phone.
"Yes," Juliana resolutely said, "not only should we continue, but every application, every communication, every vague or dismissive reason for rejection — all should be clearly recorded and backed up in our internal website logs."
Caleb Shaw immediately understood her intention, "Alright, I’ll handle it. I’m keeping watch over things at the company. Take care of yourself."
With that, he hung up the phone.
Almost simultaneously, the person on the hospital bed slowly opened their eyes.
"Where is this?"
Florence Sinclair muttered to herself.
After being taken on the ship by Sean Paxton, Elias Langley quickly pursued.
Elias Langley wanted to take her and Sean Paxton back to face legal proceedings; she wanted to agree because at least her life would be spared.
But Sean Paxton disagreed, seeming prepared for a fight to the death.
Later, an intense gunfight broke out on the ship, and she didn’t remember anything after that.
She never expected to open her eyes and find herself in a hospital.
Could it have been Mrs. Sinclair who saved her?
It must be, she thought. She was so badly injured; only Mrs. Sinclair’s medical team could save her.
So, her mother hadn’t abandoned her.
With this thought, Florence Sinclair’s adrenaline surged, even lifting her hand slightly.
Juliana Jacobs squinted slightly, walking in.
"A scourge’s life truly is tough."
She looked down at the person on the hospital bed, her face expressionless.
Florence Sinclair’s eyes, which had gleamed with faint hope, went dark upon seeing Juliana, leaving shock and resentment.
"Why... why is it you... why did you save me?"
"Save you?" Juliana curled her lips lightly, "Don’t you think I, more than anyone, wish you dead?"
Florence Sinclair trembled all over.
Juliana said lightly, "You have something I need. Make a deal, save your own life."
"What do you... want?" Florence Sinclair asked laboriously.
Juliana stared ahead, "Evidence of Sean Paxton sending people to Kenton City to kill me, which mistakenly injured Summer Shaw, and the truth about Isabelle Sinclair’s death."
Florence Sinclair’s breathing hitched, not responding immediately.
Juliana toyed with her IV line.
"Sean Paxton is dead. What you have is trash to others, only slightly valuable to me."
Saying this, she squeezed the IV line, lowering her head slightly to meet her eyes.
"Like you always made me choose, now I give you two choices: either keep silent and have the doctors pull the plug, or hand over your evidence, and I’ll organize an expert consultation to fully treat you. Choose, Ms. Ruby Newton."
Florence Sinclair felt as if being strangled, her breathing tight.
She pressed her lips tightly, saying nothing.
Juliana glanced at the time, impatiently saying, "You have half a minute left. After 28 seconds, I’ll take it you’ve chosen to forgo treatment."
"No, I’ll give it, I’ll give it," Florence Sinclair panicked, "But you have to keep your word."
Juliana raised an eyebrow, "Have I ever been deceitful?"
Florence closed her eyes, seemingly using all her strength to squeeze out a faint sound.
"The stuff’s at Central Station... east side, basement level two... long-term rental locker in area B..."
An hour later, Juliana retrieved the key Florence left at Auden Hughes’s place and headed straight to the train station.
Raine Kane, disguised, retrieved the contents and returned to the car.
Confirming its authenticity, Juliana stored the items away.
This evidence and the ’contingency’ Sean Paxton left behind intertwined perfectly, forming a complete chain of evidence against Dylan Paxton.
Only once Elias Langley returned could it be handed to him to bring down Dylan Paxton.
But he, still no word.
Where could he be?
Juliana’s nose tingled.
Just then, Caleb Donovan’s call came.
"Madam, Florence Sinclair’s condition suddenly worsened; her blood pressure and blood oxygen levels are dropping. The doctors are asking if they should continue resuscitating her?"
Juliana looked up at the gray sky outside the car window.
The cost of kindness is being consumed by darkness.
To survive, you must be darker than dark.
"Her lungs, stomach, and intestines are all rotten; she’s an empty shell. A thirty percent survival rate, saving her would waste medical resources."
Caleb Donovan understood, hung up, and told the doctor, "Let her be."
Florence Sinclair suffered for a full three or four hours on the hospital bed before dying.
The hospital hadn’t administered any pain relief during that time.
And after her death, the Sinclair Family refused to claim her body, citing her dishonor and severance of familial ties.
So the hospital had to hand her body over to a charity for disposal.
Yet Juliana found no joy in this.
A month later, one morning.
She struggled to wake from a short but panic-filled light sleep.
Familiar home ceiling met her eyes.
Someone was knocking at the door.
She tried to get up, but a fierce dizziness assaulted her without warning, forcing her to hold on to the bed edge, closing her eyes to wait for the haze to pass.
For this month, she’d been a tightly stretched string, constantly anxious, roused from nightmares every night, sustained by sheer willpower.
Once the dizziness eased a little, she took a deep breath, steadied her swaying body, planted her bare feet on the floor, and walked step by step towards the door.
Upon opening the door, the slightly panting Steward Fay urgently told her, "Ma’am, it’s good you’re awake; Mr. Langley returned, but there’s just..."
