Chapter 350: Chapter 350: All of These Are Bargaining Chips Against Dylan Paxton
Juliana put on her coat but didn’t spare him a glance.
Her tone was even colder.
"My husband will definitely return safely. No matter what happens, I can handle it myself. No need to trouble Mrs. Sinclair."
She walked to the door, her gaze settling on the silent Sebastian, her tone softened a bit.
"Dad, I’m leaving."
Sebastian nodded, "If anything happens, call home."
Juliana left Sinclair Manor with Raine Kane without looking back.
Sebastian watched her stubborn and solitary figure disappear, sighing, "This child, ultimately, we have wronged her."
Mrs. Sinclair stood in place, her fingertips unconsciously clutching the fringes of her shawl...
...
Juliana returned to Number 17 on Darroway Street, waiting until two or three in the morning, but there was no news from Elias Langley.
The last message Raine received was an hour ago, saying that two groups had reached international waters.
After that, the satellite phone couldn’t connect, and no new information came.
"Juliana, why don’t you rest for a while? If there are any updates, I’ll inform you right away."
Juliana sat in a chair, rubbing her head, shaking it.
Just as she was about to speak, her phone rang.
It was Felicity calling.
"You probably haven’t slept either?" Felicity said.
"What’s up?" Juliana asked.
Felicity hesitated for two seconds, "Why don’t you come over to my place?"
Juliana hung up the phone and got up.
Raine stopped her, "Sean and Mr. Langley are at each other’s throats right now, and she’s asking you to meet at her place. Aren’t you being a bit too trusting?"
Juliana patted her shoulder, "In times of doubt, you either trust or don’t. Besides... Felicity won’t betray me."
Though Raine still disapproved, she stopped arguing. She quickly checked her gear and followed briskly.
The two arrived at the Paxton Family villa.
Felicity had made arrangements, allowing Juliana easy access.
Once inside, Felicity took Juliana straight to Sean’s study, while Raine waited in the living room.
"Before Sean left, he told me something odd. He said if I got bored waiting, I should play with his computer in the study and even gave me a password, but his computer isn’t even password-protected."
Felicity spoke as she seated Juliana in the chair at the desk.
Juliana quickly inspected Sean’s computer.
It was too clean, unnaturally so.
Suddenly, her eyes landed on several icons on the desktop.
She pointed to an icon and asked, "Have you opened this audio file?"
Felicity took a closer look, "The file’s color is too similar to the icons around it. I hadn’t noticed until you pointed it out."
Juliana immediately double-clicked the mouse, but a password prompt appeared.
She looked at Felicity.
Felicity realized that Sean’s password might be used here.
But... using her birthday as a password to protect important files, how could that be?
She didn’t believe Sean loved her so deeply.
To prove her instincts right, she promptly entered her birthday.
In the next moment, the audio software opened.
It was a video recorded by Sean himself.
In the video, he sat alone in the study, the very spot where Juliana was now seated.
The timestamp at the bottom of the video was four hours earlier.
He adjusted his phone’s angle, tidied his clothes, and changed his gloomy expression to smile at the camera.
"Felicity, if you’re watching this video, I probably... won’t be coming back."
Felicity’s heart trembled.
"For the past decade, I’ve been handling matters for Uncle. Public, private, clean, dirty... The Paxton Family’s success is due to his ’strong-arm tactics’, and I’ve been the most useful tool. I don’t see it as wrong; for the family, someone has to do it."
At this point, Sean furrowed his brows.
"Because I’ve dealt with too many hidden matters for him, I cannot ’fail’. But now, Florence Sinclair holds evidence of my orders to have Juliana pursued in Kenton and have Isabelle strangled in prison. Tonight, whether Elias Langley lets me go or not, Uncle will never let me live."
He suddenly stared at the camera, his gaze seemingly piercing through the screen to settle on Felicity.
"Darling, marrying you wasn’t out of obligation. I truly love you."
His voice in the video trembled slightly but soon calmed down.
"But the path I chose, I can’t turn back now. The only thing I can do is ensure your safety. I’ve been discreetly cleaning up past traces since our marriage, hoping for a clean future together, hoping to stay by your side, hoping you would become the most revered Mrs. Paxton... But alas, things don’t always go as planned."
He chuckled bitterly, his eyes flashing with fierce determination.
"But don’t worry, darling. Handling Uncle’s affairs over the years, I’ve prepared some contingencies. If in my absence, he causes you trouble, give what I’ve left you to Elias Langley. Remember, you’re too weak; even if you had those, you can’t use them against him, but Elias Langley can. But think carefully; once those are exposed, the entire Paxton Family will be ruined."
"Darling..." In the last few seconds of the video, Sean’s gaze was exceptionally tender, "I wonder if in the next life, I could win your heart and have a child with you?"
The video froze there.
Felicity stood motionless, as if she too had been frozen.
After a long time, she freed herself from the complex emotions.
"What... What does this video mean? Is he telling me he won’t come back?"
Tears welled up in Felicity’s eyes.
Juliana quickly stood up and hugged her.
"He was quite lucid; he knew Elias Langley might spare him, but Dylan Paxton definitely won’t. Hence, he prepared a way out for you."
Upon hearing this, Felicity sobbed aloud.
"My family will protect me. If he’s gone, what’s the point of having this stuff? He knew it was illegal, yet he did it. Does he even have a brain?"
Juliana didn’t respond to her, just gently patted her back to soothe her, while also scanning the study.
Felicity quickly collected herself, sniffing, "But what about the evidence he left? If he doesn’t tell me where it’s hidden, how can I find it?"
Juliana had been pondering this issue as well.
Suddenly, her gaze fell on the computer screen.
The video was now frozen in a close-up of Sean’s face, his sight slightly averted, looking towards a direction.
Juliana sat back in the chair to mimic his action, looking in that direction, which was at a large landscape painting on the wall.
The two struggled to remove the painting frame, revealing a discreet hidden door.
The door wasn’t locked and was easily pushed open.
Inside, the space was small, housing a password-protected box.
Juliana carried the box out, and Felicity once again entered her birthday.
The lid clicked open, revealing neatly organized hard drives, folders, and handwritten records.
These were all bargaining chips to bring down Dylan Paxton.
Juliana quickly scanned the titles of the top few documents, then promptly shut the lid.
"This box is critical; it must be handed over to Elias Langley once he returns to handle."
Just as the words were spoken, Raine anxiously knocked on the door from outside.
Juliana briskly walked over and opened the door.
"What’s happened?"
"Juliana," Raine’s voice was tense, "Caleb Donovan reported that Mr. Langley and Sean fell into the sea during the conflict. They’re both missing... The rescue team is searching."
