Chapter 348: Chapter 348: Insisting She Call Him "Husband

"Your paranoia is worsening. Find some time to see a psychologist."

Felicity finished speaking and turned to leave his study.

Nathan Carter received two messages in quick succession.

After reading them, he set his phone aside and picked up his cinnamon water for a sip.

From the shadows behind him, a plain-looking man stepped out.

"If Sean Paxton’s criminal record is exposed, Dylan Paxton will definitely abandon him for self-protection. This way, we’ll eliminate an obstacle, leaving Elias Langley as an easy target."

"Elias Langley is easy to deal with?"

Nathan Carter chuckled softly.

"You must have confused the powerful and the minor players. Elias Langley’s focus has always been on Dylan Paxton; Sean doesn’t even qualify as a worthy adversary. Do you really believe your dear friend Samuel Paxton accidentally died at Elias Langley’s hands?"

The man fell silent, his face darkening.

Nathan Carter rose, still not looking at him.

"Don’t worry, I remember our pact. This time... neither Sean nor Elias will escape."

Juliana Jacobs, after provoking Florence Sinclair, went to The Innovation Hub the very next day.

Having been missing for some days, she had a backlog of work, so she busied herself as soon as she reached the office.

Raine Kane brought her the morning tea her family made for her as usual.

Just as she started eating, she received a message from Elias Langley, reminding her to rest despite being busy.

Juliana replied with a smile: "Got it."

Soon, another message popped up: "Where’s the prefix?"

Juliana paused for a moment, then recalled how Elias had lately insisted she keep saying "husband."

Now, even a simple reply required consideration.

While enjoying her snack, Juliana helplessly added: "Dear husband."

Elias, upon seeing those four words, was almost thrilled to ecstasy.

Outside the office, two men stood silently for quite a while.

"She’s lost some weight during her disappearance, but she looks okay. Should we go in and greet her?" Caleb Shaw asked in a soft voice.

Evan Grant turned and headed toward the main entrance.

Caleb quickly caught up with him, "You said you were here for me, but it’s all for her. Now that you’ve seen her, you’re leaving without a word. Have you truly decided to let go and not disturb her anymore?"

Evan’s pace didn’t falter, his voice was calm.

"Look at her happiness now. When a person is loved and in love, that relationship becomes a fortress. Outsiders crashing into it only bring embarrassment."

Caleb understood; Evan wasn’t letting go, he was waiting for an opportunity.

"You," he chuckled softly, shaking his head, "your approach even with feelings has become so smooth now. I don’t know if it’s good or bad, but..."

He deliberately paused.

Having worked with Juliana for so long, they were friends, and he was Evan’s childhood buddy, so he felt the need to speak earnestly.

"If she truly has no intention of returning, I think it’d be better for you to wish her well."

Evan smiled enigmatically, "There’s nothing absolute in the world, who knows what the future holds."

Just as he once thought his affection for Juliana was merely appreciation for her homeliness, only to later realize he’d already fallen deeply.

People change after experiencing many things.

Moreover, he didn’t believe Juliana and Elias Langley would truly love each other for a lifetime.

...

In the afternoon, after work, Elias personally went to The Innovation Hub to bring Juliana, who was planning to work overtime, back home.

Right after dinner, Raine Kane knocked and entered to report.

"There have been many unfamiliar faces appearing near Sinclair Manor. We suspect they might act tonight. It’s odd, though, that neither Sean Paxton nor Nathan Carter has made a move. Could there be a third party involved?"

No one mentioned Elias being attacked in the hospital, leaving Raine unable to analyze the situation completely.

At that moment, Elias tapped the table for a bit before speaking: "No matter who it is, taking Florence Sinclair away must have a purpose. Keep a close watch on them, and avoid taking action in the Sinclair Family tonight if possible; we might face a fierce battle."

"Understood!"

Raine immediately went to deploy the plan.

Elias went back to his room and donned a bulletproof vest.

Juliana picked up a coat to help him put it on, saying, "I want to go too."

However, Elias walked to the bookshelf and opened a secret compartment.

Juliana’s gaze landed deep within the compartment, stopping.

There quietly stood a Black Wood Plaque, engraved with: In memory of Helena Sinclair, wife of Elias Langley.

She froze in place.

Originally she thought Old Mr. Sinclair had forced Elias to fulfill a "marriage agreement," marrying the plaque of his late granddaughter. She never imagined he would actually keep the plaque in his study.

"I’ve found you now; this isn’t needed anymore. Take some time to dispose of it."

After speaking, Elias reached under the plaque and handed her a corner-chipped Jade Token.

"Keep this safe; if something happens, go to Northgate Curios to have it repaired, and someone will naturally assist you."

Juliana clenched the cool Jade Token in her hand, her fingertips brushing the jagged edge, causing her heart to tighten.

"You know tonight is dangerous. Do you really think I’ll sit at home and wait for news?"

"Juliana..."

"Two choices," Juliana grabbed his lapels, interrupting him, "either take me with you, or I’ll go alone. You decide."

Elias watched her for a moment, finally sighing and handing her a prepared bulletproof vest.

"Wear this and stick close to me."

Late at night, outside Sinclair Manor.

The two didn’t enter the house but remained hidden in a nondescript black sedan across the street.

The Sinclair Manor, already in a state of sleep, was eerily quiet.

"With no action from Nathan Carter and Sean Paxton, who’s coming tonight?" Juliana asked, eyeing the Sinclair Family gate.

Elias remained silent, his gaze fixed on the dark area not far away.

Just then, Raine’s earpiece crackled with a report.

"There’s movement!"

Meanwhile, in Sinclair Manor’s backyard.

Several individuals climbed over the wall and quickly located the clutter room where Florence Sinclair was held.

Opening the lock, they were almost overwhelmed by the stench inside.

Someone immediately tossed over a set of clothes, "Put these on and come with us."

Florence swiftly dressed and exited the clutter room.

Feeling the fresh air, her adrenaline surged.

"Wait, I can’t just leave like this."

Without waiting for their response, she headed toward the main building.

The group who snuck in looked at one another.

One of them muttered in his hometown dialect, "Brother, this woman is troublesome; I really want to kill her."

After speaking, he was slapped by his leader.

"You think I don’t want to? But the boss wants her alive!"

With that, they followed her upstairs.

Florence, holding a sashimi knife, charged into the master bedroom, aiming for the bed.

Thankfully, Mrs. Sinclair had awakened early and rolled aside, avoiding the attack.

"Are you insane!"

Her scream alerted Caleb Sinclair, who rushed upstairs with his men and collided with the group rescuing Florence.

As soon as the two sides met, they began fighting.

In the master bedroom, Florence brandished the sashimi knife with bloodshot eyes.

"My dear mother, every day I’ve been like a sycophant trying to please you, and in the end, you treat me like this. Vivian Norwood, you don’t deserve to be a mother. Reincarnate as a pig!"

With that, she again stabbed toward Mrs. Sinclair.

At that moment, Sebastian Sinclair’s voice commanded from the doorway.

"Florence, even the mother who raised you for more than ten years, you’d kill? You’re worse than an animal!"

Florence turned to look at him.

Perhaps thinking that getting rid of someone in a wheelchair was easier.

Her eyes flashed with viciousness as she lunged at Sebastian.

"You’re the one who deserves death, die!"
