Chapter 346: Chapter 346: I’m Here to See You Off
He held her waist, his voice low and earnest.
"Everything I’ve prepared is for you, as long as you want, for as long as you wish."
The train sped towards Kingsford, the sound of their intermingling breaths enveloped by the low hum within the carriage.
...
The next day, when the train was about to reach the station, Juliana Jacobs was only then awakened by Elias.
Still groggy, he wrapped her in a coat and carried her off the train, returning home with her feet never touching the ground.
After resting for two days, Elias still took her to the hospital for a full body check-up.
Especially a blood analysis.
He constantly worried about the bowl of "medicine" she had been forced to drink. Until all the reports came back showing that her blood indicators were normal, with no harmful substances remaining, his tightly-wound heart finally settled back into place.
Their return to Kingsford was secretive, and it wasn’t until now that Sebastian Sinclair and his wife hurriedly arrived at the hospital after receiving news.
At this point, Juliana had already gotten her examination report and walked out of the clinic, just reaching the corridor.
Sebastian stopped his wheelchair a few steps away.
He looked up at her, his eyes reddening rapidly as they locked onto her.
This man, usually deep and reserved, had all his emotions flooding his eyes at this moment.
His hands tightly gripped the wheelchair’s armrests, the veins on the back of his hands slightly visible, his lips moved a few times before he finally spoke in a trembling voice.
"Daughter, it’s daddy’s fault..."
Juliana stepped forward a few paces and held his hand.
"I’m fine, the journey was thrilling but safe, I’m doing well."
Being abducted to such a place, how could she really be "fine."
Sebastian knew she was trying to comfort him, so he cooperated by suppressing his sorrow.
"I’ve already sent your grandfather to the police station, let them handle it as they should. As for Florence Sinclair... it’s up to you to deal with her. But you should hurry, I don’t think she can last much longer."
Juliana bit her lip and nodded.
Florence deserves to die, but she doesn’t want her to die so easily.
The people behind her should die together with her.
Juliana had a plan in mind but only nodded to Sebastian.
"I’ll go to Sinclair Manor to ’visit’ her."
Mrs. Sinclair stood to the side, her eyes a mix of indescribable guilt and a desperate yearning to be close.
She looked at Juliana, opened her mouth, seemingly wanting to say something.
But Juliana ignored her presence and turned to hold Elias’s arm.
Mrs. Sinclair clearly felt the boundary Juliana had drawn for herself, feeling deeply pained inside.
But wasn’t all this her own doing?
If she had not blindly believed Florence’s provocations back then, if she had seen through them sooner, then mother and daughter would be tearfully reunited now.
The brief meeting didn’t last long; once Sebastian confirmed his daughter’s health was fine, they left with Mrs. Sinclair.
Juliana got into the car first, Elias went to the hospital pharmacy to pick up several bottles of vitamins and calming medications prescribed by the doctor.
Just as he crossed the hospital’s side door and walked onto a secluded corridor, a figure in a hospital gown suddenly lunged out from the shadow of the corner, a flash of cold light in hand directly stabbing towards his chest.
Elias reacted quickly.
Turning sideways, gripping the wrist, landing a punch!
The opponent didn’t even have time to launch a second attack, just grunted and slumped to the ground.
The sharp fruit knife in his hand also fell to the ground with a clang.
Caleb Donovan swiftly stepped forward, turned the man’s face towards him, confirming he was a gaunt looking male.
He stepped on the man’s neck vigilantly scanning the surroundings.
"Mr. Langley, he doesn’t look like he’s from Harlan."
"Handle it cleanly."
Elias’s voice was devoid of any ripple.
He looked at the medicine in his hand and confirmed it was unharmed.
"Don’t disturb hospital order, take him away and question him thoroughly."
"Yes!"
Before reinforcements arrived, Caleb dragged the man into a nearby unused room.
Afterwards, Elias returned to the car, his face showing no signs of disturbance.
Juliana looked at the medicine in his hand, frowning, "Am I not completely fine? Why do I still need to take medicine? I was taking pills every day recently, now seeing medicine makes me nauseous."
With tenderness, Elias enveloped her in his arms, chuckling, "Just some vitamins. Madam has lost too much fluid these days, don’t you need replenishment?"
Juliana blushed from his comment, keeping her mouth tightly shut, not saying a word to him all the way home.
These past days, she had been the one to ask him for it.
She didn’t know why; she never objected to such things before, yet wasn’t particularly passionate either. But since returning to his side, every time she got close to him, her heart would inexplicably heat up.
Perhaps after experiencing life and death separation, their feelings had forged into a different kind of intensity, making even their bodies exceptionally honest.
Juliana didn’t think deeper, blushing as usual tonight.
Upon returning home, Sinclair Manor’s gifts had also arrived.
A dozen or so exquisite gift boxes were neatly placed in the foyer.
The gift-giving process was very high-profile; Sinclair Manor’s steward officially visited with the household staff, and Steward Fay received each gift one by one.
This scene was naturally for outsiders to see.
To more effectively mask Juliana’s true identity, Sebastian publicly aired the "family scandal," claiming that the adopted daughter Florence Sinclair had caused severe "harm" to Juliana out of jealousy, saying Sinclair Family felt deep pain and regret, hence giving generous compensatory gifts and promptly ending the adoption with Florence Sinclair to set the record straight.
Juliana understood her father’s intention, smirking slightly, saying nothing, she instructed the steward to move these things to the warehouse.
As night fell, Elias took care of her as she slept, then quietly got up and went to the study.
Caleb Donovan was already waiting there.
"Sir, we’ve investigated. That man was a drug addict, already in the late stages of AIDS, he snuck in from Oakhaven’s border this time. The ’General’ posted a bounty through overseas underground channels, anyone who takes your life can get a lifetime’s supply of narcotics. This daredevil was driven by the bounty."
Elias furrowed his brow.
The "General" was a head of the Umbralis crime syndicate, also Samuel Paxton’s close collaborator.
So, when Raine Kane and Caleb Donovan were attacked at the highway service area, the goal probably wasn’t just to abduct Juliana but partly for him as well.
Caleb’s brow furrowed deeper than his.
"Losing Samuel is equivalent to losing the entire Harlan line, causing significant damage to the ’General.’ As per the fragmented information gathered, there’s a high possibility he has already entered the country, one side coveting Madam’s value and the other wanting to avenge Samuel. Yet now he’s in the shadows; we have no way to trace his whereabouts."
Elias leaned back in his chair, reflecting calmly for a moment, "As long as he’s here, he will surely leave traces, keep investigating, don’t overlook any detail. And this matter must be kept confidential, especially from Madam."
She had just gone through a catastrophic event; he mustn’t let her worry.
The following evening, Elias accompanied Juliana to Sinclair Manor to "visit" Florence Sinclair.
Florence was still confined in the backyard’s abandoned storage room.
This room was once used to store gardening tools but has become Florence’s cage; even the windows have been sealed.
Every day, Caleb would bring a bowl of "traditional medicine" to force her to drink.
Once the medicine entered her stomach, it was like a knife twisting, agony making her live in hell, vomiting until her stomach acid was gone, only then feeling slightly better.
Such torment occurred daily.
With Elias accompanying her, Juliana walked to the door but hadn’t yet pushed it open before a stench burst forth.
She slightly furrowed her brows, lifting a hand to cover her nose.
Elias took out a mask for her to wear.
"If you can’t handle it, step back, don’t force yourself, alright?"
Juliana nodded.
Caleb opened the door for her, and she stepped inside slowly.
Florence had just undergone another round of torment from the medicine, curled up on an old straw mat in the corner, hair tangled and matted, face sallow, eye sockets sunken, a stark contrast to her former arrogant self.
Whereas Juliana, standing with the backlight, was impeccably dressed, her bright eyes glossy and radiant, all signs proving Elias cares for her quite well.
Florence’s hatred and unwillingness erupted instantly.
"You bitch! What are you here for? To see how miserable I am now? To laugh at me, right!"
Juliana’s eyes slightly curved, and she slowly spoke, "I’ve come to send you off."
